Sustainability is no longer singled out as a trend because it has become increasingly prominent in our everyday lives. As a planet we are far more conscious about sustainable living and the ways in which we can reduce our carbon footprint. Sustainable material sourcing for projects is an important aspect that is now integrated into the majority of design decisions.
WHAT MAKES TILES A SUSTAINABLE OPTION? Unlike carpet, vinyl, or laminate flooring that have to be replaced periodically, properly installed tiles can last a lifetime. This longevity reduces time, money and resources spent on extracting raw material, manufacturing, transportation, installation, demolition and disposal requirements. The eco-credentials of hard-wearing, low-maintenance porcelain and ceramic tiles is boosted by ranges made with recycled materials.
SUSTAINABLE TILE FINISHES
Grestec offer many ranges with high recycled contents with proof of accredited environmental certifications including EPD, Leed, ISO 14001, ISO 9001:2005 and Breeam. In this edition of Inspire, we have selected just a few tile ranges that are suitable for eco-friendly specifications, and have commendable sustainability profiles. 04
SUSTAINABLE DESIGN WITH TILES
ISO 14001 CERTIFIED Grestec is pleased to announce its been accredited the ISO 14001 certificate, helping us to reach our sustainability goal. ISO 14001 is an internationally agreed standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system. It helps organisations improve their environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste.
Grestec have installed solar PV panels on its south facing warehouse roof to cover most of its electricity demand for its UK warehouse and offices. 05 Sustainability is an important core value to Grestec. As we look to the future, we are continually strengthening our environmental policies and practices, which address reducing emissions, waste, and water usage across our entire operation to reach net zero emissions by 2030.
