[quote] The first step of this project was to choose a quote from a famous graphic designer, and to use typography and color to make it expressive. I chose this quote from Neville Brody. The next step was to look at other atrwork and find inspiration for our own placards.

Next, we created 20-30 sketches of our quote, using different alignments, colors, sizes and fonts. The three that have a hilighted box around them were the ones I chose to show to the class.

These were the three sketches that I chose to show to the class, and I felt like they were my strongest. The two on the left are similar, with the word “painting� in an expressive script font, and the other text is more neutral. The one on the top right uses light lower case letters, which contrast with bold capitals on the bottom. This was the one I chose to continue working on, because I liked how bold it was.

[final] For the final composition, I chose the pink option, with the type color getting lighter as it goes down, hich mimics the “paint drying� effect. The lighter type on the top does not compete with the lower type as much as the bold did. I still made the type on top smaller, and added more white space to the top and bottom of the composition, so it did not feel so crowded.
