TARGET AUDIENCE.
Darius Katkauskas with Andrew Rybin in Lithuania are starting up a strawberry business which I am a share holder and am responsible (and always will be) for the design side of the brand. The name came spontaneously as my brother is the one that is opening the business and as I called this brief that for so long, It just “stuck” to the project and brand itself.
Create a memorable and different strawberry logo and build up identity trough that to help a start up business be recognised in the market.

CULTURE.
Lithuania has always been known as one of Europe’s premier agricultural countries. As early as the 11th century, during the height of the medieval era of kings and crusades, the people of Lithuania have eked out a living largely through farming and hunting. To this day, blessed by beautiful nature, Lithuania still boasts some of the most pastoral landscapes and idyllic scenery in Europe.
A country full of tradition and honesty. A nest for peace and quiet. To understand the Lithuanian person it might take more than few chapters of history to explain the the heights and the lows. Individuality, bread and basketball are the treasures of the country. A strange combination. The strawberry business is going into unpredictable market.

AUDIENCE.
50 years later, on 23 August 1989, the three nations living by the Baltic Sea surprised the world by taking hold of each other’s hands and jointly demanding recognition of the secret clauses in the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact and the re-establishment of the independence of the Baltic States.
Lithuanians (Lithuanian: lietuviai, singular lietuvis/lietuvÄ—) are the Baltic ethnic group native to Lithuania, where they number around 2,561,300 people.[1] Another million or more make up the Lithuanian diaspora, largely found in countries such as the United States, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Russia, United Kingdom and Ireland.

VISUAL RESEARCH.
The coat of arms of Lithuania, consisting of an armour-clad knight on horseback holding an olden sword and shield, is also known as Vytis (pronounced [ʋiːt̪ɪs], “the Chaser”). It is one of very few containing symbolism adopted from ducal portrait seals rather than from coats of arms of dynasties, which is the case for most European countries.
Crests have been used to mark Lithuanian families and culture for many years that is why I used it as basis for my logo development. I also researched one of the biggest branding agencies Not Perfect. an d their design styles that they use. Most of the logo’s are vectorised there is why I decided to do the logo in a vector.

DEVELOPMENT.
Whiles creating a logo I asked peoples opinions of what it looked like and I got many different opinions eventually it was a strawberry. I kept developing the logo until there were no more doubt left that it was a strawberry and hid the initials of the name withing the illustration.

PACKAGING.
It was important to make the packaging sustainable and environmentally friendly. As well cost sensible as everything would need to be produced. I researched sustainable packaging and came across egg packaging that was made out of hay. I thought it was a wonderful idea as my parents each year cut a lot of hay and we can even use that.
REACTIONS.
To have the net to protect the strawberries was due to feasibility and legibility. Whatever went on top had to be see trough but I couldn’t use plastic as it was expensive and environmentally damaging. The sticker was another question of feasibility as we would not have a high budget to start off. Stickers can be produced quick, cheap and bulk.
My client straight away related to the concept and loved the brotherly feel of the name as well as the logo and the packaging. It was excepted well and will be developed further trough the summer.
