Loop De Loop…………………………....3 Do It In Ten……………………….…...5-7 11 Second Club……………………….8-9 Orchard Pig………………………...10-16

Loop de Loop I picked Loop de Loop competition because it seemed fun to play with the idea of a looping narrative. All the previous submissions seemed very playful and out of the box. Another reason why I took it up was because it was a bi monthly challenge which gave me more time, considering other competitions were monthly, also the briefs rules were very clear and straightforward.Apparently, it was not as easy coming up with a looping story as I first thought it would be.

But I took a lot from it. I learned how to think about a narrative not in a usual linear way as well as having an opportunity to work on my animating skills. I also learned how to rig my characters and break them down into 2d symbols. The brief also gave me a chance to work on my character design skills. Which was really beneficial since that is what I want to focus on from now on.

Do It In Ten ‘Do it In Ten’ is Show Me The Animation’s monthly animation challenge. The challenge is simple, you are given a theme and all you have to do is respond to that theme within a ten second animation. It showcases every entry upon the Show Me The Animation website, and at our Animation nights. At the end of each month a monthly winner is selected, who is then put forward into a Best of challenge at the end of the year and be in with the chance of winning an animation goodie bag. The 2015 goodie bag has some fantastic prizes including 1 year licence Toon Boom Harmony Advance, Limited Edition Hyno Cat T-Shirt, Shaun The Sheep The Movie (DVD) and it is confirmed the 2016 goodie bag will also contain a 1 year licence for Toon Boom Harmony Advance. I took up this brief because yet again it had very few rules which provided me with a lot of creative freedom. The challenge is pretty straight forward and I can work on y animating skills on the way. The first time around, with the Chilly theme I only managed to start a project, but did not manage to finish it because during Christmas holiday instead of taking a break I worked full time and the theme for the month was over before I could even properly animate it. But the second time around with Transition I managed to learn from my experience and get it done pretty quickly. I believe this brief allowed me to work on my timing and spacing skills and develop them further, as well as project management and how to plan out my time better. I am happy with the flow of the submitted animation and the animation in general, and moreover I think the soundtrack fits it perfectly. I did not spend as much time on it as I would have liked to but I believe I did the best that I could with the time that I had.

11 Second Club 11 Second Club is a monthly character animation competition using a set dialog from a movie. This brief was very important to me because it was all about character. That is mainly why I picked it. I was really excited about this month's challenge because the dialogue seemed funny and full of character. This challenge helped me think out of the box in terms of character design and also it gave me a chance to work on character animation. I am happy with the end result, however I do believe I could have done better job with the animation, because the character design did not really come through in it, I kept losing the proportion of the head and body and the character design is rather inconsistent. But the feedback I received from my peers made me a bit more positive about it because they seemed to like it a lot. I believe I have made a lot of progress towards the direction I want to take on my career not only with this particular brief but with all of them.

Orchard Pig The Orchard Pig brief provided us with a great degree of flexibility in media. Also the simple but powerful core value of the brand “Stayed rooted”. We love to think creatively and innovatively, look for new ideas. We believe we have managed to achieve that for this brief and found ourselves really enjoying the process of production. Our view of the brand has not really changed throughout the project, which we consider to be a good thing, because that means the brand is very distinctive and so we managed to keep it consistent. We stuck with the values and the principles of the brief, but with our own interpretation of them and hopefully it comes out through our work. We are very satisfied with the final result and hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.We have provided two sets of work for this brief: a series of posters and a mascot proposal. The ideas behind the posters were to introduce the cider making process as well as the history of Orchard Pig that truly rooted in Somerset’s in 1850’s so as to amplify the craftiness of the cider through the sepia toned illustrations. We decided to create a series of humorous posters that reference the real cider making process and tools at the past along with pig founders and workers that could represent the brand in an interesting way. Through our research process we have noticed that Orchard Pig sponsors the Bath Spa rugby team, so we took this opportunity and built the idea of a mascot from it, proposing that the mascot would be suitable not only for festivals, beer stands and public PR events but for the sponsored team as well. We have created the mascot in 3D using Maya to provide a more realistic representation of the idea. With appropriate texturing and editing in Photoshop we have managed to also provide a context to the character.

I was in charge with the character design both for the posters and mascot design. It was the easiest and most clear way to divide the workload. Wing was comfortable with background design and I was happy with doing character design once again. Working on this brief was very fun and interesting. We both were happy with the way it turned out and I feel like I have grown a lot as a character designer. I also learned a lot about Photoshop and how to work with it. Also I had a chance to recap on my 3d modelling skills with the mascot model which made me feel more comfortable about working with 3d software. Along with the new skills I have gained during the production of this project I learned a lot about teamwork and how to keep each other motivated.
