Grey’t Ideas weekly 30.01.2015

Poland celebrates the invention of grill with a week long holidays in May. Americans have something equally stupid – Super Bowl game that gathers all the nation in front of TV screens. When all those people sit to watch the game, tv stations start counting money, cause every minute of ad break is worth absurd amounts of money. Was it worth this year? See our list of best and worst ads.

* Katty Perry on giant tiger – America’s way of saying „we love throwing money away”.

BEST

Art of listening Social campaigns are usually very provoking and disturbing. This one only needs you to listen, but it’s worth listening. In „No more”, very subtle and calm ad about domestic violence, not much really happens. But the real problem is told in such a suggestive way, that you will easily forget about the game The whole ad is based on a true story. http://youtu.be/rTJT3fVv1vU

100 years of experience

Very American, deeply moving and almost on the verge of being tacky. But it’s really good. Dodge celebrates 100th birthday. Who can sum up such a long period better than those who actually lived 100 years? Watch some wise hints and Dodge Challenger in action: http://youtu.be/JKKlqMs19tU

Snickers „The Brady Bunch’” http://youtu.be/linSRGYnCcc Snickers keeps on using the same simple insight, but it’s still fresh and funny.

Loctite „Positive Feelings” http://youtu.be/7TjgUwNJ72k Absurd is so common in advertising, that is just boring. It’s nice to see it used how it supposed to be used.

Avocados From Mexico „First Draft Ever” http://youtu.be/26hl9YWLyn4 Clever, minute-long funny story, that doesn’t pretend to be anything else.

WORST

Nightmarish dog returns One of the worst Super Bowl 2014 ads was Budweiser’s tacky story about small Golden Retriever and his friendship with a horse. It’s really hard to think about something worse, but they really went for it again. Little dog comes back for more action, just like Rocky did. This time he get lost, escapes big wolf with a help of brave horses and so on. And to finish the ad – a deeply moved farmer sheds a tear when his beloved dog makes his way back home. To make things worse – the whole story is backed up by tear-jerking cover song. Budweiser must be making most of the sales on teenage girls right now, if they went for it. If you are not feed up with all this, here is something to finish you off: „Cutest Animal On Planet Earth”

Jeep on the edge The only ad this year, that we failed to watch whole. We stopped watching for the sake of our mental health. We just were certain that there is nothing more to it and absolutely no surprise will come. Just great landscapes from California, through New York, to Great Wall and Jesus from Rio. Looks like creatives got lost and went on sightseeing. And what’s with the song – unoficial American anthem „This land is your land”? Isn’t it supposed to be about American land? Can we use it now to promote Daewoo Lanos travelling from Tarnobrzeg to Szczecin Dąbie?

McDonald’s „Pay with Lovin’” http://youtu.be/iq2Sm2XGv_s Seems like the hit the wall with this one – you can’t possibly make anything dummier than this. Or can you? Coca-Cola „Big Game’” http://youtu.be/ibgvkXm9Qkc Feels like we’re back in the 90’s and Coca-Cola is going to save the world. Anyone still believes this? Bud Light „Pac Man” http://youtu.be/g9A1NowrnGI After last year it was hard to make something worse, but they tried and did. But just tell my why?

last idea// be a millionaire If you’re already bored with Super Bowl (we are) – here is a little news from boardgames’ market. Hasbro, Monopoly manufacturer, is celebrating 80th birthday of the game on French market. On this occasion they decided to fulfil one of our youth dreams – they will be packing real Euros instead of fake ones into one random package. Who hasn’t dreamt of this?
