overview of the semester Integral elements:
The best way for me to generate ideas and visuals is to decide on a starting point and then develop the idea from there. By taking the initial idea and making gradual changes it illustrates the development stages and gives me the opportunity to make reference to the first set of ideas further on in the project. I enjoy making the mistakes early on in a project and finding out what doesn’t work before I progress to the more important stages of the project. In terms of the final result I do tend to use colour in my work, mainly in the branding projects. I feel that it makes the design more eye catching and successful.
Success:
I think that my strengths when generating a project is when I begin to draw out visuals and begin to decide on the direction that I am going to take. I spend a large amount of my project time concentrating on the rough ideas. This way I cover as many options as possible and hopefully generate a strong concept so when it comes to taking the ideas to the screen it is a smoother, quicker process. I think the reason for this positive experience is through the earlier years of my degree I soon came to realise how important the initial stages of a project where and how a strong set of back up visuals helps to create a more solid final design.
Personality:
In terms of design I am interested in the branding side. I enjoy being given a brief that involves re-branding and to create an initial brand for a new company. This is because I enjoy problem solving and I think that this is what branding brings to design. I try to inject personality into my work by injecting colour into my work In the future I would like to be working in a design agency that works with marketing as well. This way I will be able to concentrate on the branding side of design but still gain the opportunity to create other projects such as packaging, editorial and web visuals. Preferably I would like to get a years experience behind me and then travel for a while and hopefully pick up some design opportunities in some different countries to build up a great portfolio and CV.
Integral elements:
Are there integral elements that often form key elements within your work – in other words how do you best generate and create your own designs/imagery?
Success:
What are your strengths? Where have you been most successful? What do you think was the reason for that positive experience?
Personality:
What are you interested in, what are you about? Do you feel you have been able to introduce your personality and interests in your work. In what creative direction do you want to proceed in the future?

gen two - realise This brief was brought to us by Gen Two, a training company in Carlisle and the majority of our course were asked to take part in the competition and bring forward some ideas for a new logo for them. They wanted a new, fresh identity that would appeal to a large audience. They asked for us to create three different versions, one for people studying in Higher Education, people interested in Apprenticeships and corporate companies. All three logos needed to look the same but just have different colour schemes.
