THERE is no grander way to earn promotion than beneath the famous arch at Wembley.
That’s according to Grimsby Town boss Paul Hurst, who is preparing to lead his men to the home of football once again. Just 12 months ago, the Mariners suffered a heartbreaking penalty shoot-out defeat, after putting on a valiant display against Bristol Rovers. Fast-forward the clocks, and Town have an immediate shot at redemption on Sunday (4pm). But while Hurst accepts winning the title was his first ambition, he also believes the stage is set for a ‘perfect’ return to the 92. Ahead of their date with destiny, against Forest Green, Hurst told the Telegraph: “There is no better way than doing it at Wembley. “As much as it would have been great to win the league – and I’m not saying I wouldn’t have swapped places with Cheltenham – if we can win it here on Sunday, particularly with what happened last year, it is definitely the place to do it. “It will take some beating to have that feeling of going up from a one-off game.

Disley: I will have failed with Mariners if I don’t lead us to Football League CRAIG Disley says he’ll judge his time at Grimsby Town as a failure until he delivers on his five-year-old promise to lead the club back into the Football League.
When the midfielder arrived at Blundell Park in 2011, he says he did so with the sole aim of getting the club back where he insists it belongs. He is acutely aware that he is yet to achieve that, but after the heartbreaking experiences of the last three Play-Off campaigns, the 34-year-old reckons that long wait is about to end. “It’s got to be our time, it’s got to be our year,� he told the Telegraph. “When I signed for the club five seasons ago, I signed to get the club back into the Football League, and if I don’t do that in my time here then I’ve failed. “After the disappointment of last year as well, getting so close with the penalty shoot-out, I just feel it’s got to be our year this year. “It would be massive for me personally, but for the club as a whole, they deserve to be in the Football League and the fans deserve to be watching League football. We’re desperate to do it for everyone, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

Obviously the comparisons to the ’98 side have been made, so if we can look to emulate that, that’s what we’ll try and do and what a great season it would be if we could do that.� Disley, who was visibly moved by the club’s semi-final win at Braintree added: “If I think about leading the team up those steps I might start crying again! To lift any trophy at Wembley would be something I could look back on when I finish playing with fondness. To possibly have the opportunity on Sunday to walk up those steps and lift the trophy that gets us back in the Football League, it’s what dreams are made of. Let’s hope we’re all dreaming on Sunday.�

‘Last year has put the fire in our bellies’ WHEN Grimsby Town suffered the heartache of their penalty shoot-out defeat to Bristol Rovers, Ian Holloway told the players to keep the disappointment in their ‘top pockets’ for this season. As one of this season’s crop who went through that devastating experience, Gregor Robertson says it has certainly given them the ‘fire in their bellies’ to go one better in Sunday’s Play-Off Final with Forest Green Rovers. “I’ve only had one promotion in my career and that wasn’t through the Play-Offs,� he told the Telegraph “I saw the other side of it last year and it was devastating.
