Visitors will be able to meet authors and browse a fascinating range of books, while aspiring authors will be able to attend a range of informative workshops and events.

readings…! Workshops  How to Turn a Manuscript into a Book (10AM – noon)  How to Promote and Sell Your Self-Published Book (2-4PM)

Blue Pencil Sessions  Throughout the day: The Editors Association of Canada (BC) will be providing detailed advice and suggestions to authors and aspiring authors who submit a sample of their work in advance. Book Drive Authors, workshop attendees and visitors will be encouraged to donate new and gently used books in support of local literacy programs funded by Frontier College. Black Bond Books and Vivalogue Publishing will also be donating a portion of the day’s proceeds to support Frontier College. Reception Participating authors, aspiring independent authors and bibliophiles are invited to attend a private reception at Earl’s Restaurant (Lansdowne Centre) from 4-6PM. This is a fundraiser for Frontier College, which funds literacy programs across Canada. A highlight of the reception will be the Round Table Critiques: on-the-spot critiques of writing submitted anonymously by one of the attendees.

Nov 9, Lansdowne Centre A new Richmond Book Festival will focus on Self-published authors while supporting literacy Black Bond Books and Vivalogue Publishing will jointly host Raindance: A Festival for Indie Authors .

Bring your favourite passages, points of interest, and share your reading experiences. Drop-ins are welcome.

Not only will this celebrate local self-published authors, but it will raise funds and awareness for Frontier College, Canada’s original literacy organization.

Beyond the Basics: Advanced Copy Editing with Maureen Nicholson You know language; you’re a master of style and syntax; you can spot a typo or a format glitch from metres away. What more can you do to improve the language you work with? This workshop deals with advanced copy editing: What is it? How do you do it? What are its best practices? What are the best resources? How do you schedule it? What can you charge for it?
