FRIDAY SEMINARS Science of Skin
with Dr. Cliff Faver
Are you frustrated with all of the skin problems that you see on an everyday basis? Do you feel like the standard veterinary treatments are not accomplishing the results they are supposed to? Do you want to help your clients’ pets get better but you don’t know how? This is the series for you. Put the “why” in what you do! The Science of Skin is a four-part lecture series that builds on concepts. It is very important to attend all four lectures to get the most out of this series so that you can have a complete understanding of the “why” in what you do, or should be doing, in your care of the hair and skin of our pets. This is taught by a veterinarian from a scientific perspective but will be taught at a level even the beginner will benefit from. Hour 1) World of Hair & Skin:
The first session will cover the basic anatomy and skin cycle so you have a clear understanding of why problems occur, why dogs itch, why hair doesn’t grow back readily in some breeds, why the color changes as the dog ages, and why our products often don’t work. Learn what role nutrition truly plays in the health of our skin. Hour 2) Not All Hair is Created Equal: In the second session, we will
cover why there is not a “one size fits all” shampoo and conditioner, why you should not shave down certain coat types, why conditioners are important for the health of the coat, and what types work for which coat type.
4
Hour 3) Skin Issues: When Things Go Wrong: In the third session, you
will learn some of the reasons why skin issues occur and what the veterinary and groomer roles are in addressing these conditions. Learn why we even make some of them worse. Get a better understanding of what you are able to restore to normal and what we just hope to control. Hour 4) Sick Skin & How to Deal with It: In the final session, you will
learn some of the basic approaches as well as the do’s and do not’s of working with skin cases. The groomers actually play a bigger role in solving many of these cases than they realize by restoring the coat back to its normal state. Learn why we succeed or fail in these endeavors.

SATURDAY SEMINARS Critical Communication Skills You Need to Succeed as a Pet Care Professional with Amy Castro
?? ...
!!!
Excellent communication skills are the most important career and personal skills you can possess, even in the pet industry. However, many people underestimate the impact of communication on their careers, thinking technical skill alone will be enough to carry them to success. Whether you’re interacting with employees, coworkers, or clients, how well you communicate can determine whether you build great working relationships and gain lifelong customers or drive both employees and customers away. In this workshop, Performance Communication Expert Amy Castro, MA, CSP, will share some of the most important communication skills you need to succeed in business today—whether you are an owner, manager or employee. Those who attend this workshop will learn the importance of understanding the human communication process, how to improve listening in any situation, how to choose words for maximum effectiveness, how to use your nonverbal communication to reinforce your words, how to give feedback in a way that reduces defensiveness, how to hold an effective problem–solving conversation, and more!

2018 RECAP
Hi there Michell. I have been trying to find a sporting dog to use as a model for my certification exam. We have lots of Labs and Goldens but hardly any Springers, Setters or Cockers. The few sporting breeds we have ask us to shave the whole darn dog with a #10 blade. I want to talk a few of my customers into letting their dogs grow out but I don’t know where to start. Any suggestions?
