South Tyneside and Groundwork West Durham established, Kate Culverhouse appointed as 1st Community Project Officer – she would go on to become the Chief Executive of Groundwork NE & Cumbria by 2014.
Bantling Lime Kilns was Kate’s first project. It ran from 1991 - 2011

Greenlink Project celebrates 10 years of partnership with Groundwork
Esso Greenlink was one of the first initiatives to take environmental education into local industry. Delivered through the national curriculum, the programme encouraged children of all ages to look at the company’s impact on the environment. Tony Blair, then leader of the labour party attended the celebratory event.

Future Jobs Fund was a UK government initiative introduced in 2009 which aimed to help long term unemployed people back into employment.

first office in Cockermouth officially opened. The building had been vacant since it was damaged in the 2009 floods. In partnership with local community organisation, Riversmeet, we brought the building back to life.

initial River Tees Rediscovered Landscape Partnership was set up to celebrates the river’s natural and social heritage while also protecting, preserving and enhancing its unique landscape and driving schemes to allow wider access and enjoyment.
