Mindfulness is a great way to enhance your well-being and feel better about yourself. Still, it can be difficult to incorporate into your life if you are new to it. In this article, we look over 4 easy ways to be mindful today. Each of these mindfulness techniques can be incorporated into anybody's routine. Read on to find out more.

By Olofi Akoma The easiest way to be mindful is to incorporate it into your morning routine. Most people’s mornings start with a cup of coffee. Be mindful while drinking your daily cup of coffee or tea. This is a great way to wake up your senses and start your day off on a positive note. Simply prepare your drink as usual and sit down in a comfy spot. Before you start drinking, intentionally breathe in the steam and feel it go into your nose. As you sip your coffee or tea, try to follow the liquid as it goes into your mouth, down your throat, and into your belly. Another way to add mindfulness to your day is to put your phone down. Phones can be one of the most helpful yet distracting devices of the modern era. Be mindful by putting down your phone for an extra 15 minutes today. Most people find it best to go deviceless in the morning. Use this extra 15 minutes to recoup your thoughts, consider your feelings, and get in touch with yourself.

Another idea is when the weather is beautiful, you will be able to see a variety of animals, insects, and plants. Try being mindful by going outside and paying attention to the world around you. Start by closing your eyes and simply listening to life. Can you hear any wrestling leaves? Are there birds chirping around you? Is there a neighbor mowing their lawn? Simply let your senses guide your thoughts as you are mindful of the outside world. See if you breathe any different outside too. Lastly,one of the most important facts of being mindful is getting in touch with your thoughts and feelings. Sandalwood oil is believed to be beneficial in treating both physical and mental disorders, including anxiety, bronchitis, diarrhea, fatigue, fever, gallbladder problems, high blood pressure, indigestion, insomnia, liver problems, low libido, sore throat, and urinary tract infections.

In aromatherapy, inhaling the aroma of sandalwood oil or absorbing it through the skin is thought to transmit messages to parts of the brain involved in controlling emotions, known as the limbic system. These messages are believed to affect both an emotional and physiological response. (By way of example, the reduction of stress typically translates to a reduction in blood pressure.)

SACRED SANDALWOOD

Known for its sweet, earthy smell, sandalwood oil has been used historically in Indian and other Eastern cultures. Sandalwood essential oil is especially high in antioxidants, which help to fight the free radicals that cause age-related skin damage. It’s also used to reduce the appearance of dark circles and other dark spots appearing on the skin. As an antiseptic and astringent, it also helps to clean the pores and reduce inflammation from mild skin irritations. What’s more, studies have shown that sandalwood helps with skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis. In fact, many skincare products contain sandalwood oil as a key, age-fighting ingredient!

CREATING AN

CREATING A SACRED SPACE By Olofi Akoma An altar serves as a visual focus of your spiritual intentions, affirmations, prayers, and energy. It also serves as a place to go be quiet, re-calibrate your mind, and re-ground your energy. An altar can be right where you are. In an open field, in your parked car, or in a private place in your home. The key is to create a space that’s sacred and consecrated. There are certain steps that you are encouraged to follow while setting up your altar in your home. Step 1. Choose a location. Choose an area of your home that has little to no daily family traffic. An empty closet or even a secluded attic or basement will work just fine. Choose a space that resonates with you. Step 2. Clean your space. Clean it by sweeping, then by smudging with a cleansing herb such as sage. Smudging is an ancient ceremony of burning sacred plants like sage, sweet grass, or tobacco. When burned, the smoke clears the space of negative ions and then blesses the space to begin fresh and new again. In essence, it’s like resetting and re-energizing the field. Scientifically, it has also been proven that burning sage removes bacteria from the air.

Step 3. Choose your items for your altar. Choose items that represents the four elements, fire/light, water, air, and earth. Fire represents creative energy, strength, and sexuality. Water represents cleansing, healing, and cultivating our intuition. For Air one might use natural incense, white sage, feathers, a bird image, or even a writing instrument; for air represents knowledge, wisdom, and masculine energy. Earth represents being secure, grounded, and carries feminine energy (as in Mother Earth). Suggestions include: water, crystals, candles, photos of loved ones, incenses,inspirational books, poems, and/or words of affirmation. Step 4. Bless your altar. Blessing your altar is saying a prayer, setting an intention or chanting a mantra or affirmation over the altar. You choose what your heart speaks for you to do Step 5. Bless yourself. You, consecrated and made holy, are also an altar. Each morning I bless my head as a ritual to bless the functions of my being.

THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING Affirmations are very powerful. By saying, hearing or writing a powerful affirmation, you manifest it into your brain over and over again until you actually believe your affirmation.This makes it possible to reprogram your brain and even overwrite deeply rooted limiting beliefs with new, empowering ones. A new belief system is equal to a new reality because your beliefs are like filters for your reality. What you think, you become. The best way to get started with affirmations is to choose an area of your life you want to focus on, pick 2–3 affirmations from this list below and repeat them every morning and evening. This way, you will start your day with a positive outlook and fall asleep on a positive thought. Over time, these thoughts will become your reality.

Changing your negative thoughts into positive thoughts takes practice and being aware of how you talk to yourself.
