BRAD & GEORGE’S
B E BACK ON!
Hollywood’s favourite buddy act is back in business! George Clooney and Brad Pitt have finally ended their feud, and insiders say it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the absence of Angelina Jolie has made it all possible. Earlier this month, George, 60, launched a charity fundraiser to help his justice foundation with a hilarious skit that featured him swooning over a Brad Pitt pillow while sitting in a room covered in posters of the 57-year-old actor. “This is George’s olive branch,” says an insider. “There’s no way George could have done something like this without Brad’s permission, and it was only ever going to be a really funny thing that would bring them together. “Brad couldn’t stop laughing when he read the script and he
called George straight away.” Now, sources say the pals have picked up right “where they left off”. “This is very exciting news for Hollywood. Brad really needs a solid pal like George in his life – plus, they were an incredible creative team together,” adds the source. “It was Angelina who got in the way – she took a disliking to George after he told them they were welcome to visit Lake Como, but not with the kids because he was concerned about his antique collection.“ Of course, George’s wife Amal is “nervous” about the two friends getting up to mischief together, but the source adds that she is “glad to see George so happy again”.

AUSTRALIAN IDOL RETURNS...
& MARCIA’S GETTING TOUGH! New Idea can exclusively reveal that Marcia Hines was offered a contract last week to reprise her role as judge on Channel Seven’s revamped version of Australian Idol. Marcia was one of the three original judges on the hit show alongside Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson and Mark Holden, when it first aired on Network Ten. But there is set to be a twist...
NEW IDEA EXCLUSIVE
“Dicko was always known as the ’mean judge’ but producers are keen for Marcia to step up as the tough and controversial judge this time round,” says a source. “However, the decision has left Dicko feeling a bit hurt as he feels like he has been overlooked for the series.” Meanwhile, former contestant Rob Mills has offered to host the reboot. “Wouldn’t it be great if there was an Australian Idol alumni to host a new series of Australian Idol?” he told TV Tonight.

“Being separated from his family for more than a year is wearing thin,” says a source. “FaceTimes aren’t enough, and he is pining for a hug from his parents and frets about how much of Grace’s life they’re missing out on. It’s very painful for him and so far there’s no end in sight as to when they might be able to come and visit.” Chandler’s family last visited Australia in January 2020, before travel restrictions were in place. Martha is set to appear on her second reality series Celebrity Apprentice this week.

S
he successfully transformed from a spoilt Married at First Sight bride into a social media powerhouse, and New Idea hears Martha Kalifatidis’ new gig on Celebrity Apprentice most certainly won’t be her last! According to a source, the country’s top TV casting directors are competing to turn Martha’s TV fame into a full-blown family affair, with lucrative offers being put forward for her very own reality series. “Nobody has come close
6
to her influence and popularity in the reality space – there is a real interest there,” explains the insider, who adds, “offers are definitely being put forward to green light a Kardashian-style reality series this year.” Martha’s popularity has skyrocketed ever since she appeared on MAFS in 2019. She now boasts over 600,000 followers on Instagram, and intrigue around her life and romance with TV groom Michael Brunelli has only increased since her loveable mother, Mary, was recently unveiled as
a Big Brother housemate. Interestingly, despite Martha’s ties to Nine and Mary’s gig on Channel Seven, the source says it could be Network Ten who scoops up the family’s show, with Ten announcing the return of their Pilot Week. The initiative, which commissions TV pilots
to gauge audience interest, has seen the likes of Kyle Sandilands and Roxy Jacenko have their shows turned into ongoing programs, and our insider says, “Martha has long been eyed off by Ten.”

EDDIE AT WAR WITH KOCHIE! There’s no love lost between Aussie TV heavyweights and rival AFL club presidents, Eddie McGuire and David ‘Kochie’ Koch, who are still engaged in a bitter feud. The conflict between the media and sports identities escalated recently over an immature comment the Millionaire Hot Seat host, 56, made about Kochie’s physical appearance – after years of trading barbs over their respective footy clubs’ similar jumper designs. “So there you go. David Koch is sticking his nose into the AFL territory. It’s a big nose. I hope he doesn’t get it broken,” Eddie, who is the former Collingwood president, sneered. Port Adelaide chairman and Sunrise star Kochie, 65, went on to call his rival out for his rude comments, claiming Eddie has a “nasty streak”. “I’m big enough and ugly enough, and I know I have a decent size honker … [but] to make comments like that, I think it is uncalled for,” Kochie said, adding, “[Eddie] has this enormous sense of self-importance that he runs the game and he can tell the AFL what to do.”
THE EN OF ELL RUSTY’S BOYS ALL GROWN UP! Russell Crowe’s kids have gone from boys to men – and their likeness to their famous father was on full display in a new photo posted by their mum, Danielle Spencer, last week. Celebrating Mother’s Day, the singer showed off her teenage sons Charles, 17, and Tennyson, 14, who she shares with Rusty, in a touching post on Instagram. “Here I was telling
the boys to smile – and then I didn’t. Ah well,” she joked. Fans were quick to point out how fast the gents had grown and appeared to be inheriting their father’s handsome looks and stature. “Have the boys grown taller than Dad yet?” asked a fan, while another couldn’t “get over” how much the pair looked like their Oscar-winning dad.
It’s official – Ellen DeGeneres is ending her embattled talk show! After 19 seasons and more than 3000 episodes, Ellen revealed she no longer considered the show a creative challenge and was ready to call it quits. The show’s end comes after several former and current employees accused the 63-year-old of fostering a toxic work environment last year, and turning a blind eye to bullying by executives. A former Ellen producer, Hedda Muskat, came forward a few hours after news of the cancellation broke, telling Sunrise, “The viewers have spoken. Her ratings have been in the toilet for a long,
long time now. Her show has not been fun, it has not been interesting, and she’s not really ‘stepping down’ … the viewers fired her.” Hedda went on to insist that Ellen had trouble interviewing “real people” and preferred to work with celebrities. 7

’S PAIN: CAN’T LOSE MY BERT’ ONGOING HEALTH ISSUES LED TO A SHOCK ‘LIFE OR DEATH’ SURGERY
L
ike the strong matriarch she’s always been, Patti Newton was armed with her bravest smile as she arrived to see her husband Bert at Melbourne’s Epworth hospital last week. Her stoic appearance on May 10 came just hours after it was revealed that Bert, 82, had made the “life or death” decision to amputate his leg in a bid to prolong his life. The television icon is understood to have undergone the surgery the weekend prior, following complications with a toe infection – the result of an injury New Idea understands Bert sustained during a trip to Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula over Christmas. “He had a choice and his choice was to live,” Patti declared as she arrived to be by Bert’s side. “It is going to be a long journey, but we are all very positive.” While Patti, 76, revealed the severity of Bert’s pain, explaining she had never seen somebody in so much discomfort, the showbiz queen maintained Bert is still very much committed to fighting for his life. “You know Bert … onward and upward. I’m sure he will be fine, we are hoping anyway,” she shared, promising that her
husband of 46 years, who Patti shares son Matthew, 44, and daughter Lauren, 41, with, was very much in “good spirits”. Certainly, Bert’s health has been an ongoing battle for the best part of the last decade. In 2011, Bert, a diagnosed diabetic, spent a week in hospital after catching viral pneumonia. Just a year later he underwent lifesaving quadruple bypass surgery before making regular visits to hospital, most recently up until November 2020. As well as the star’s unwavering resilience, Bert and Patti’s five-decade-long love affair has been on full display since the news broke. “We have been together for over 50 years, so I am not going to leave him now,” Patti revealed. “He keeps saying, ‘You will hang around, won’t you?’ And I say, ‘Yes I will.’” Of course, Bert is also “hanging around” for his six grandchildren from Lauren and her husband, Matthew Welsh. “We have gathered around him a lot and it’s mainly for the grandchildren because he wants to watch them grow,” explained Patti. The proud grandparents share Sam, 11, Eva, 9, Lola, 6, Monty, 3, Perla, 2, and son Alby, 9 months – who was named in Bert’s honour. The entire family remain hopeful that ‘Poppy Bert’ will live
to see them become adults. Despite his lengthy and successful television career, Bert has always relished in his most important role as grandfather. “I realise now how lucky I am to have the family I have – family is the one thing I’m totally sure of,” he said in 2020. The journey ahead for Bert and his family will no doubt be tough, with renovations at his Melbourne mansion already underway to accommodate his change of life, but one thing is certain: Bert’s fighting spirit remains steadfast.
Patti, who’s recovering from a broken ankle, arrived to visit Bert last week.
NEWTON FAMILY MISSION
TO GET MATT HOME!
As Bert’s life-threatening health crisis brings the Newton family closer together than ever, one person who has been noticeably absent is Bert and Patti’s US-based son, Matthew. The embattled actor/director currently resides in New York City alongside his American wife, Catherine Schneiderman. Insiders close to the Newton family tell New Idea that Patti is quietly hoping they will soon see their only son back at home and reconnecting with his loved ones, including his younger sister, Lauren, and nieces and nephews – some
of whom he has never met. Nine years ago, Matthew, who suffers from bipolar disorder, permanently relocated to the US following an arrest and domestic violence allegations from two former girlfriends – both Australian actresses – and has not returned back to Australia since his highly publicised fall from grace.

he fired off accusation after accusation against the royal family during her and Prince Harry’s salacious TV sit-down with Oprah Winfrey in March, but Meghan Markle isn’t done talking. grandson Archie’s recent second birthday of just him, Prince Harry and baby Archie. Meghan apparently took her exclusion from the post as a “deliberate dig” at her. “She’s telling friends that if Charles is going to erase her from the family photo album, she doesn’t mind officially declaring that her daughter won’t be royal at all!” explains the source. Following Archie’s birth, Meghan and Harry, 36, seemingly insisted they wanted their son, as well as any future children, to have a normal childhood, raised without all the pomp and ceremony that comes with being royal. To achieve this normalcy, the Sussexes reportedly asked the Queen to not bestow any titles upon Archie. However, Harry and Meghan later told Oprah this was not the case at all. If the interview does go ahead, it will be another
bitter blow for Charles, who once shared a special bond with his daughter-in-law. The Prince of Wales even stepped in and walked Meghan down the aisle at her wedding to Harry, when her own father, Thomas Markle, was forced to withdraw. Sadly, their relationship is now “nonexistent”, says the source. “Charles still can’t get over Meghan accusing his family of racism and hasn’t yet found a way to figure out how he’s meant to have a meaningful relationship with Meghan, even though he knows he’s going to have to play nice to have access to his grandchildren.” As it stands, Charles, 72, is reportedly heartbroken that he has become a distant grandfather to Harry’s child. He’s apparently only seen Archie twice since he was born in May 2019, and the reason Charles used a photo from Archie’s christening in his birthday post was because he doesn’t have any recent pictures of them together. “Charles is desperate to have a meaningful relationship with Harry’s kids. He always

wanted a daughter, but things with Diana ended not long after Harry was born. He feels like Harry now having a girl is his second chance.” Charles is even pleading with Harry to bring his baby girl home for her christening, and has promised to personally organise it as a symbol of a fresh start. “He’s playing the Queen card,” says the source. “What I mean by that is he keeps saying how delighted his mother would be to meet her great-granddaughter and have her christened at Windsor Castle. Out of everyone, Harry seems to be on the best terms with his granny, and Charles is happy to call her in to get his family back together.”
IS MEGHAN’S MUM ENGAGED? Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, has set tongues wagging among her friends and colleagues that she’s engaged, after she was photographed wearing a stunning diamond on her ring finger the day before Mother’s Day on May 8. “Doria has a very active social life but since Meghan’s been with Harry, she’s learnt to keep her mouth shut about even things like her love life because she knows it will be splashed across the UK papers,” tells one source. “She won’t comment on the ring, but she definitely seems very happy and settled, so it wouldn’t surprise anyone if there was
a special man in her life. “I’m sure that if it’s gotten to the point of her being given a ring, the proposer in question would have definitely got the tick of approval by Meghan and Harry. They’re very protective of her.” Of course, if Doria, 64, is in fact engaged, it wouldn’t be her first trip to the altar. She married Meghan’s dad, Thomas Markle, in 1979. Although the pair divorced in 1987, they remained on good terms. However, things have reportedly soured between them in recent years. 11

WILD DAY OUT Move over, Prince Harry – there’s a new royal rebel in the family! Lady Amelia Windsor was spotted thoroughly enjoying herself while out and about with friends in London on May 2. The granddaughter of the Duke of Kent, who is the Queen’s cousin, sipped on what appeared to be a cocktail as she lit up a cigarette and chatted to pals outside Notting Hill’s trendy Cock And Bottle pub. The 25-year-old, who recently stripped down to skimpy lingerie for an ad campaign, rugged up against the London chill in an oversized navy coat featuring a hint of pink.

QUEEN’S HORROR COUSIN CAUGHT OUT
Queen Elizabeth’s cousin, Prince Michael of Kent, has been accused of selling access to Russian president Vladimir Putin’s regime. The UK’s Sunday Times and Channel 4 secretly filmed a business meeting in which the undercover reporters were told he could be hired for $17,800 per day to make representations
to the Russian president. Michael’s business partner of 30 years, the Marquess of Reading, also said the prince was “Her Majesty’s unofficial ambassador to Russia”. However, in a statement, the spokesperson for Michael has denied the claims, stating he only has a “special relationship” with the president.

As reported by New Idea, friends are convinced a wedding is imminent. Now, one pal tells New Idea that Ben, 48, might have used the Montana trip as an opportunity to get down on bended knee again! “Things got so deep and meaningful … Ben said he doesn’t want to lose her now he’s had this second chance with her and he’s planning on proving that this time – it’s forever,” dishes the source. “It was so romantic. They had a little snow and some starry nights. Ben cooked an incredible steak dinner for her from scratch, and they spent hours in the hot tub catching up on times gone by and making plans for the future.” Ben certainly knows a thing or two about grand romantic gestures. When the actor proposed to J.Lo in November 2002 at his mother’s home in Boston, he surprised the star by blanketing the entire house in “a quilt of rose petals”, as she put it. “So many candles and vases and bouquets,” J.Lo shared in an interview shortly after. “And my song ‘Glad’ was playing. I wasn’t expecting it and I was just like, ‘Oh my God.’” As J.Lo sobbed, Ben read out a letter he’d written, listing all the ways he loved her and wanted to marry her. true to themselves and living an authentic life – I know I do. I also love the feeling of when you work hard on a project and then get to see it all come to life.
You speak in the book about embracing the highs and lows of life. Have you always been like this? I have always been hopeful by nature. I am very lucky that my parents raised me to always be grateful for opportunities that come my way. The idea of hope and never giving up is a prominent theme in my music.
The song ‘Crash’ tells the story of your chaotic arrival into the world, with your mum being in a car accident when she was seven months pregnant with you. How did your folks react to the song? My parents have been a part of my music my entire life. They are always so proud and supportive. I love seeing them in the audience smiling or playing them a new song. They were incredibly moved by this song, and everyone seems to have the same reaction thankfully! The lyrics take you on a journey through the story of my birth.
There is a real sense of strength in your new album. When do you feel you are most confident? The record takes you on a journey of finding strength in vulnerability and just saying it how it is. I think most people feel strongest when they are staying
It’s the first time you’ve told this story. Why did it belong on this album? And what felt right about the timing? I feel like I have grown up a lot since my last record. After losing my speech and having a “reset”, as I have called it, and going back to the very beginning and sharing stories like this, it felt like it was the right time to share new layers with everyone. This album is filled with stories that I haven’t shared before, and [that’s] why it was so important to
REM KING M OU ’ share the extended version in the book also. Do you ever hesitate sourcing such personal and private moments of your life for your music? I believe the best songwriting is when you write from the heart from honest personal experiences because at the end of the day, we connect through shared experience! I have always loved metaphors in writing, but on this album, I was ready to be more literal. In ‘Play’ you sing, “Is this the life that I had planned?” Have you managed to answer that question yet? I think it’s an ever-evolving question, right? Much of this album was born out of a moment of self-reflection. I think especially over the past year when life forced all of us to pause, it’s natural to think about life and the decisions you’ve made: are you where you want to be? Are your priorities still aligned? I think it’s healthy to consistently check in with yourself and make sure you’re still on the right path in this one, wild and precious life. You describe yourself as the “girl dancing on tables and swinging from chandeliers” in the book. This is a different side to you...
After a reset I think it’s important you go through a rebirth of sorts – it shows that you’ve grown and learnt from your past experiences. As you get older, I think it’s easier to not care what other people think and to unapologetically own your truths. Once you fully embrace that mentality, it’s incredibly liberating. You also talk about “me time” and being with your girlfriends. What does a night out with Delta look like? It’s just being with my girlfriends at a nice restaurant with a glass of wine! Sources say Paul, 81, who made the best of his split from Linda, 63, for the sake of their son, Chance, despite his “considerable heartbreak”, is now on such good terms with his ex that they are said to see each other every second day. Their renewed love for one another came after Paul had a brief, and thankfully unfounded, shock thinking she’d died. “Bizarrely, an older woman with the same name as Linda’s came up in an obituary list and Paul started getting calls from friends wondering what had happened,” explains a source. “It gave him a huge scare. Around the time, they had fallen into the habit of a brief wave if one of them was picking up Chance from the other’s house, a litt But when Paul’s ph ringing off the hoo to her house in a p
“Linda was shocked at how much he obviously still cares for her wellbeing … the man was ashen! But it wasn’t long before they were laughing together. It felt like old times.” In an attempt to keep things as normal as possible for Chance, 22, Paul and Linda live within minutes of each other in LA. Sources say that since lockdown, they’ve been at each other’s homes, forming a little family bubble with Chance. Now, as Crocodile Dundee celebrates its 35th anniversary, insiders are keeping their fingers crossed for the pair to team up again in celebration. “Paul retained all the rights to anything to do with the movie as part of their divorce,” says a source. “It effectively cut Linda from any celebrations or reboots in the future. But now they’ve reconnected, people hope all bets are off.” Indeed, sources say it’s no coincidence that just as Paul and Linda reignited their friendship, he began floating the idea of another Crocodile Dundee movie. “Having Chris Hemsworth as my son and Margot Robbie as my daughter was pretty cool,” Paul said. “But, if I have beautiful children like that, I should be on a stud

Ronn’s departure was a severe car crash he and his wife, Devin, suffered that same year. “We were hit very hard,” remembers Ronn. “And it really changed things. I thought, ‘Holy crap!’ It was like something had hit me – and I mean esoterically. “It had physically hit me hard, but also spun me around in a different direction. It changed my life. I felt like it was the universe telling me to go in a different direction, so I left the show and then had to reinvent myself.” This different direction was,
in fact, a return to his roots – music. While Ronn is synonymous with The Bold and the Beautiful, he actually got his big break as a musician in the late ’70s as part of chart-topping band Player. They had a number-one hit internationally with single ‘Baby Come Back’ in 1977 and toured with the likes of Eric Clapton and Heart. “Music has always been a big part of me and was my first profession,” says the international sex symbol. “Ridge was so well-known around the world for so long that most people didn’t know me as a musician, because I didn’t Also a musician, Ronn recently released his album Lockdown Lover, which was inspired by the pandemic.

Coming out of a lengthy COVID-19 lockdown in Belgium, where he was about to start a stint on stage in a play, Ronn says he’s used the downtime wisely. “It inspired my new album, Lockdown Lover, which includes a new version of ‘Baby Come Back’ – a version that’s about our world coming back instead of a girl. The couple have just celebrated 12 years of marriage. “We’re a team,” he says, beaming. “We go up and down just like everyone else, but I love her. ensions have been brewing in Todd McKenney’s family ever since he publicly revealed in 2018 that he once dated his sister Lisa’s husband, theatre star Simon Gallaher. “[My sister] married my ex-boyfriend and is still married to my exboyfriend,” the Dancing with the Stars judge said. The confession reportedly put an end to Lisa and Simon’s marriage. Now, three years later, New Idea hears
the Gallaher clan are still dealing with the aftermath of their uncle Todd’s admission. Lisa and Simon’s three children – daughter Gigi and sons Tyron and Saxon – have “become collateral damage”, alleges an insider, who believes the trio are now “distanced” from their father, due to Todd’s candour. Eldest child Gigi lives in the UK, while Tyron and Saxon are now out of home living in Queensland. “Obviously the ‘Todd and Simon’ scandal still plays a role in the family’s turmoil.
“While the kids love their father, they’re closer with their mother,” confirms the close friend. According to the insider, as the rest of the country devoured the news that Simon had a five-year relationship with Todd during the ’80s, Lisa and Simon’s kids struggled watching their parents’ marriage crumble. “Simon and Lisa handled the split differently in the eyes of their children,”
the source explains, before continuing: “they all chose to support their mother.” The insider adds the family “definitely never cared that Simon had been in a relationship with a man. It was more the fact that Todd chose not to keep the past a secret that sent a rift through the family.”

SECRET HEARTACH DEVASTATING DIVORCE NEWS HAS TORN THE AUSSIE STAR’S FAMILY APART
W
hen Cody Simpson called time on his headlinemaking romance with pop superstar Miley Cyrus late last year, no-one could have known the secret he was bravely hiding. While the couple regularly posted loved-up photos online during their relationship, behind the scenes Cody, 24, was sick with worry over
his family back on the Gold Coast, after they delivered some shock news – his parents’ 26-year marriage was also crumbling. Now, New Idea can reveal Cody’s folks, Brad and Angie Simpson, have since called it quits following a tumultuous 12 months. Insiders say the pair finalised their divorce last month, as Cody attempted to reignite his childhood Olympic swimming dream.
Interestingly, last month Cody failed to show up to one of his heats at the National Swimming Championships. “There’s been a lot going on in Cody’s life that his fans didn’t know about,” a family friend shares exclusively. “I think Brad and Angie’s marriage problems had a lot to do with why it didn’t work out with Miley. Like any divorce, it has torn the family apart.” Sadly, it is just the latest trauma for the Simpsons. The family also had to come to terms with a dark secret Brad kept for 35 years. While chasing his own Olympic dreams, Brad was groomed and sexually
abused by a private sports trainer from age 9 until his mid-teens. He became so consumed with guilt and shame that he kept it bottled up until just four years ago. The secret also had a big impact on his marriage and family life, with Brad at one point going through a breakdown. He nearly took his own life before opening up to Angie and their kids, Cody, Alli, 23, and Tom, 17. “I made it so tough for [Angie], and somehow she stuck around,” Brad said, admitting he worked to hide the trauma through drug and alcohol use
MILEY SETS HER SIGHTS ON ZAC!
Miley is contemplating a trip back to Oz to pursue a relationship with Zac.

Insiders say Miley Cyrus could soon end up back Down Under for a shot at love with Zac Efron. “She made no secret of the fact that she’s had a thing for Zac Efron for ages and now that he’s single again, she’s ready to pounce,” shares a source. Miley, 28, who’s admitted that the “hot and gorgeous” Baywatch star holds “a special place” in her heart, “has had
a flirty relationship with Zac that goes way, way back, but she never pulled the trigger”, says a pal. Since Zac, 33, split from Aussie influencer Vanessa Valladares in April, ”Miley feels the time is finally right to make a move,” dishes the friend, adding that she’s even thinking of flying to Australia, where Zac is currently shooting his Down to Earth docuseries.

Cody stayed in the US and started dating Miley after she split from her then-husband, actor Liam Hemsworth. LIKE KEN! While the fashionable figurine’s body type, hair texture and outfit choices have become more diverse over the years, one thing has remained strong – his devotion to his leading lady Barbie, now 62. Despite a public break-up on Valentine’s Day in 2004, the plastic pair rekindled their romance seven years later and have since been a devoted duo. But it wasn’t just Ken celebrating the milestone since Mattel’s release back in March 1961. Self-confessed ‘Human Ken Doll’ Justin Jedlica says he was inundated with birthday messages on his idol’s big day. Justin, who shot to stardom when he appeared on reality TV show Botched, fulfilled a decade-long dream late last year when he became the first person in the world to get a full-leg augmentation, having eight of his custom-designed implants inserted. The high-risk operation clocked up his 1000th cosmetic procedure, boosting his total bill to almost $1.3 million.
“In the beginning I didn’t really like the ‘Ken Doll’ title because it made me seem superficial and kind of vain and dumb, but I’m anything but that,” Los Angeles-based Justin tells New Idea. “Even coming up with certain surgeries and different implants that aren’t out on the market has involved a lot of hard work, research and study of the anatomy.” The plastic surgery consultant, 40, spent three months recovering from the operation, which left him wheelchair-bound and learning to walk again, but he says it was worth it to meet the ultimate goal of well-defined pins. Justin’s journey to become a plastic pioneer began when he was a child, admiring his icons Dolly Parton, Joan Rivers and Michael Jackson. “As they become wealthier and more famous they almost turned themselves into caricatures of the person they were,” says Justin. “It was like they were wearing their wealth on them like you would

Although he now has 23 implants spread throughout his body, Justin has no plans of slowing down and says he may undergo a face lift in the coming years. Commenting on his perfectly sculpted physique, Justin laughs, revealing he was teased for being overly feminine in his early teens. “The last thing I ever thought I’d be referenced as was the Western ideal of male beauty or the Human Ken Doll,” he says. “But I like looking distinguishable and different and overdone – I own it.”

GOL GER!’ deep in the outback digging for gold. Ever since she was a child, Jacqui’s had a passion for finding treasure. And this year, she’s taking that passion to another level, appearing in the hit TV series Aussie Gold Hunters. Jacqui also hopes to encourage more women to get out into nature and become involved in the life-changing hobby. “It’s such a great way to spend your free time and weekends out in nature,” Jacqui tells New Idea. “Prospecting has taken me to places I’d never have otherwise seen.” Jacqui caught gold fever while out prospecting with her dad, Daniel, when she was as young as 7. Her family went on a road trip to the mining town of Nundle, NSW. “We picked up some pans and went down to the creek. We put the pans in the water and started finding tiny specks of glittering gold,” she recalls. “I kept my little gold in a vial and it was something that I really treasured. As I got older, I always wanted to be outdoors hiking in forests. I just loved being in the bush.” In her 20s, the passion was reignited when she became fascinated with geology. It’s a far cry from her career in beauty, and Jacqui says that often, friends are surprised to hear

about her favourite activity. “It’s not what my friends are doing on weekends and holidays, but people do think it’s cool,” she laughs. So far, Jacqui’s found gold, sapphires, topaz and a range of different crystals. But instead of selling her valuable gems, which could go for a fortune, she holds onto them for safekeeping. “I don’t sell anything, I just enjoy collecting them and the memories associated,” she says. “They are all super special to me. People have offered to buy some pieces from me, but I’m not in it for the money.” Her research into the craft landed her on a local Facebook page, where she met other like-minded people who gave her tips and information on prospecting. It was there that she met Andrew Leahy, now her teammate on Aussie Gold Hunters.
“I became an active member of the Facebook group, and Andrew was the admin,” she says. “We heard the show was looking for a Queensland team and Andrew asked me if I’d be interested. I said yes and we actually made it onto the show. The experience was so much fun. I had no idea that it would be such an adventure.” One person in particular is delighted with Jacqui’s life’s passion – her dad. “He’s beaming with pride – he is so chuffed,” she says. “I think he’s a bit jealous of all of the places I get to go, but I brought him back a nice souvenir from filming, and it definitely got him teary eyed.” Jacqui hopes her appearance on the show will inspire other women to get involved.

aking their first steps, riding horses and dreaming up their futures, best friends Antonia* and Rachelle Childs did everything together. The neighbours, whose family homes shared a fence, lived an idyllic Australian childhood. But all that came crashing down when Rachelle was brutally murdered 20 years ago at age 23. On June 8, 2001, her body was found in a shallow ditch, on fire. The incident sent shock waves through the small country town of Bargo, NSW. Her parents, Graham and

Anne, as well as friends were left heartbroken by the murder. For Antonia, losing her lifelong friend was equally crushing. Desperate to help, she did the only thing she felt she could – try to catch Rachelle’s killer. Antonia helped the police in any way possible, even undergoing hypnotherapy in order to try to extract more information. Despite numerous suspects, there was not enough evidence to lay charges. As the months rolled into years, the case went cold. Now, 20 years later, no charges have yet been laid and Rachelle’s killer is still on the loose.
“Looking back, I can’t believe it’s been 20 years. I still very much get upset about it,” she tells New Idea. Before her tragic death, Rachelle was a bubbly, cheeky and intelligent woman in the prime of her life. She loved her job at the Holden dealership in Camden, south-west Sydney. “She was not only a friend but also a saviour to me – she got me through some very tough times,” Antonia recalls. On June 7, the night Rachelle disappeared, she had said she was going to the Bargo Hotel to meet someone, but didn’t say who. “I knew something was wrong the following day because she wasn’t [responding] to my calls. I went to the police and said there was something wrong, and then I drove around the
area in my car not knowing what I would find.” In the early hours of the next day, Rachelle’s body was found. Worried Antonia didn’t find out for four days. She got a call while driving home from work. A mutual friend told her that Rachelle’s body had been found on the side of the road. “I didn’t expect it,” she says. “I remember when I got home, my body had gone into shock. My arms and legs didn’t work and I just had to lie on the ground with my dog until my mum came home and helped me up.” Antonia helped Rachelle’s parents organise the funeral and read out the eulogy, then she helped the police by sharing all of the information she had on her friend’s life. Doreen recalls that “she gave me a kiss and told her dad she loved him.” But early the next morning Doreen saw that Amanda’s bed hadn’t been slept in. “I wasn’t worried. She’d known her friends since school. They spent every weekend in and out of each other’s homes.” By 9am, when Amanda hadn’t rung as she usually would, Doreen called her

daughter’s friends. “They said they’d dropped her off at 10.40pm, seen her put her key in the screen door lock and open it, then they’d driven off.” Amanda had vanished on the doorstep of her family home. Distraught, Doreen and Malcolm contacted police. “Amanda was so close to us, the police knew it was serious and started searching
“It broke our hearts,” says Doreen. Over 600 mourners attended the funeral, with Amanda’s Woolies workmates forming a guard of honour. Meanwhile, detectives learnt Amanda and Richard had planned to meet the night she vanished. After spots of her blood and DNA were found on his car boot liner, he was charged with her murder.
‘NOT A DAY HAS GONE BY SINCE THAT WE HAVEN’T THOUGHT ABOUT AMANDA’ immediately,” Doreen says. Days passed with no news. Doreen hoped Amanda had been abducted and was being held, as “the alternative was so much worse.” The police told them their daughter and her ex, Richard, had still been secretly meeting. Almost five weeks later, on May 13th, Amanda’s decomposed remains were found in Tamban State Forest, north of Kempsey. The cause of death could not be determined.
At his June 2008 trial Richard freely admitted contacting Amanda the night she disappeared, but said they hadn’t met. He strenuously denied murder and said her DNA was on the boot liner because they had previously lain on it while having sex.
The case against Richard was so weak that in a rare move, the judge ruled there was insufficient evidence for the prosecution to proceed. He ordered Richard’s acquittal. “We were bewildered,” says Doreen. “Richard didn’t kill Amanda, so who did?” Richard subsequently sued the police for wrongful arrest and malicious prosecution, but later discontinued the case. “Not a day has gone by since when we haven’t thought of Amanda,” says Doreen. “Her future and ours was stolen. Malcolm will never walk her down the aisle. She’ll never be a mum. I’ll never be a grandmother to her children. “If anyone knows anything, please, call the police. Do it for the women you love, for your mum, your sister, your girlfriend, because Amanda’s killer is still out there.”

style back. To get the skinny on this newfound interest in perms, we spoke to Dana Monkman of Toni & Guy to find out exactly how the modern perm process works, as well as what’s required for pre- and post-treatment care.
WHAT’S INVOLVED? “To begin the process, we set perming solution and our perming rods, which can vary in size depending on the tightness of the curl that you want,” says Dana. “The time for this to set varies, and will depend on the curl and texture of the hair. We then rinse the hair and apply a second solution, which sets the hair in shape. To finish, the rods are removed and the hair is rinsed thoroughly.” HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? na advises that, depending the tightness of curl you ose, a perm can last ywhere from three to six nths. Of course, the tighter curl is to begin with, the ger the life of your perm. rms can be so versatile,” says. “Even adding some ght movement to superaight hair can make styling ier, so I think we will see s trend sticking around for a while.”

THE DOS & DON’TS If you’re now a perm convert, and wanting to road test the
curly shag, here are a few dos and don’ts for nailing the modern perm…
DO… GET A HAIRCUT BEFORE HAND
“Make sure your stylist cuts your hair into a longer version of the shape you want,” says Dana. “Curls bounce up, so you need extra length to accommodate for the extra bounce!” If you want to try the shaggy permed fringe, be extra careful about length. DON’T… CUT YOUR HAIR AFTERWARDS
Immediately after getting the treatment isn’t a great time for a cut, as snipping your strands post-perm can weaken the curl. DO… MOISTURISE YOUR HAIR PRIOR
“Try to have your hair in the healthiest condition before you go for a perm treatment,” says Dana. “A perm is still a chemical service and will make hair feel drier. The better condition the hair is in before you start, the better the result.” DON’T… WASH YOUR HAIR
Any Legally Blonde fan worth their salt could recite this fundamental rule of the perm. You cannot wash your hair for at least 48 hours following
the treatm as this will to an uneve or entirely unsuccessfu result. DO… BUY PRODUCTS SUITED TO CURLY HAIR
Waterless Curl Milk, $14.99, chemist warehouse. com.au
“In terms of ongoing treatment, permed hair requires products similar to that of curly hair,” says Dana. “A curling cream is a great styling aid that will help define the curls and protect against humidity.”

Parenting is a job in which there’s no official training, little previous experience, you’re not allowed to quit and people’s lives are at stake! Most of us want to provide a life that is just as good as, or better than, what we had. Many parents are feverishly seeking to keep up with the abundance of activities on offer that help our children be the best they can be. In the meantime, we can neglect what is inherently important – the relationship we have with them and the example we set to look after ourselves. Whether you’ve mucked up at work,

forgotten the dress-up day at school or your teenager refuses to detach from a device, we won’t always execute the greatest response – but there’s no point in repeating the same patterns of overwhelm. We create a beautiful, nurturing environment for our kids when we nourish ourselves. According to relationship expert Joanne Wilson, here’s how...
GET OUT OF THE COMFORT OF YOUR DISCOMFORT Your whirring toxic thoughts of ‘can’t’ and ‘not good enough parent’ will continue to hold you in a vice-like grip if you allow your brain to be stuck in the comfort of discomfort. You are the only one who can harness control of your mind and body

to realise your potential. Your children are modelling the product of your thought life and this is your greatest motivation to realise your inherent worth, so your children do the same!
NURTURE A BEAUTIFUL MIND Set aside a 30-minute time slot each month to visualise, plan and write down what the best version of you looks like. You can do anything you put your mind to and inspiring your children should be right up there in your top priorities. You’ve got access to inspiration from reputable thought leaders on YouTube, podcasts and audiobooks on your smartphone any day of the week. START WITH A BREATH AND A BANG Eight minutes of mindful breathing or prayer nourishes your neural pathways and reinforces coherence in the heart, setting you up for success with clarity. Back this up with a list of the three most important parental intentions today that will have the largest impact, and then take action. SWEAT SO YOU DON’T FORGET Sorry, mum and dad bods – there’s no avoiding this one! Your brain loves exercise and you’ve got a better chance of keeping up with your children’s energy levels, too. The benefits will undoubtedly flow through to all your relationships when you’re feeling better within yourself from all those happy endorphin chemicals, as well as when you look great.
BE GRATEFUL Write down three things daily that include the best aspects of what you already feature, instead of getting too stuck in what you’re not. Pop them in a jar and enjoy reading your time capsule on days when you struggle as a parent. This is a quick and easy way to pick yourself up and dust yourself off ! STAY SOCIAL Banish the guilt, as it is not selfish to seek time out. A bolstered social life is not only incredibly entertaining when learning of other’s parental failures, but inevitably provides a source of support. Whether you join some sort of meet-up group, find a new hobby, join a fitness group or chat online, your children will be launched to success from a parent with a rich private life that features integrity through contribution, as well as plenty of fun! EXPERIMENT AND LEARN A NEW THING EACH WEEK Fear will sure keep the lid on your wildly wonderful and potentially successful ideas that could well save you and your identity, aside from being a parent. Think like a scientist who relentlessly experiments, searches, tests and tracks their progress. When in doubt, bias toward experiment and action toward the best version of you. • Neuropsychotherapist Joanne Wilson is the ‘relationship rejuvenator’ and author of Renovate Your Relationship – All The DIY Tools For Your Most Important Project ($29.99). your preparation right is key, so be sure to spend the time required on this step.
3
PICK THE RIGHT PAINT FOR THE JOB
You’ve chosen your colour scheme and prepped your surface, now it’s time to find the ideal paint for the job. Quality paint should offer great coverage, meaning your paint lasts longer and you’re not repainting every year! Ideally, you’ll also want to find a paint that is self-priming to save yourself
time, which is why British Paints 4 Seasons is our go-to.
4
GET STUCK IN
If you’re painting a weatherboard home like we did, use a brush to cut in from the bottom of each board, making sure to reach into every overlap, before continuing with long, even brush strokes. Rather than painting one long, horizontal board at a time, divide your wall into vertical columns, working in sections to complete the project.

Exterior painting can be tricky as there are so many different areas to consider, including front fences, doors, window trims, render and weatherboards. Remember that you don’t necessarily have to select the same paint colour for your entire home, fence or other outdoor project. Selecting one shade of paint for your exterior, then a slightly lighter or darker colour for your home’s trim is an easy way to add visual interest.

Your guide to HOW YOU CAN GET A SLICE OF THE PIE
O
ne in three Australians directly own shares, according to the ASX Investor Study 2017, and you can, too. But before you even start choosing shares, you need to understand how they work.
GET TO KNOW HOW SHARES WORK
Investing in shares can seem complex, and yes, there’s a whole lot of jargon that goes hand in hand with share markets. But the basics of shares are very straightforward. When you invest in shares, you are buying a small slice of ownership in a company listed 62
on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). The share market is broken into various sectors including energy, financial, utilities, consumer staples and healthcare. As a shareholder you are a part owner of a very big business. It doesn’t matter whether the company is Telstra, Qantas, one of the mining giants like BHP or any one of the 2000 other companies listed on the ASX, as a shareholder you own part of the business – and that’s pretty exciting. As a part owner, you have the right to attend the company’s annual general meeting and have your say in how the business should be run. It’s an option, but most shareholders are happy to sit back and leave the daily grind to the board of directors. The real appeal of shares lies in the opportunity to earn income without any personal effort. And unlike a rental
property, once you’ve paid for shares, you won’t be asked to contribute extra cash to keep the business going. Even better, the returns on shares can be very lightly taxed.
HOW SHARES CAN MAKE MONEY
As a shareholder, you have the potential to earn two types of income: dividends and capital gains. They are quite different, and it’s worth understanding what’s involved with each. Each year, when a company makes a profit (assuming it makes a profit), all or part of this money can be paid out to shareholders as ‘dividends’. Unlike interest on a savings account, there are no guarantees about dividends. It is up to the board of directors to decide whether the company will pay a return to shareholders at all. During the COVID-19 pandemic, for instance, a
number of companies decided to hold onto their cash rather than pay a dividend. To be fair, these were exceptional circumstances, and depending on the company you invest in, you can normally expect to receive a dividend payment once or twice a year. How much you’ll receive will depend on how many shares you own.

P
racticed in India as a form of medicine for more than 5000 years, Ayurveda is an holistic approach to health and wellbeing that’s recently been gaining popularity in the rest of the world, too. “It’s all about prevention,” explains Krishna Kumar, president of the Australasian Association of Ayurveda. “The goal is to maintain wellness and ward off diseases through a combination of herbs, spices and lifestyle changes.” HOW DOES IT WORK? Ayurveda is based on the belief the world is composed of five elements: air, space, fire, water and earth. These elements are used to describe the energies of the three main body types or ‘doshas’, including vata (space and air), pitta (fire and water) and kapha (water and earth). Vata types are typically light and thin, while pittas are medium-sized, and kapha types are short and broad. 64

“We all identify with one body type, though some of us can be a combination,” explains Krishna. “Your practitioner will help you determine your dosha by considering your lifestyle and taking a pulse reading. Then they will suggest herbs, dietary and lifestyle changes to suit your body type.” IS IT RIGHT FOR ME? “Ayurveda also draws on the benefits of yoga, meditation, diet and tailored lifestyle changes,” says Krishna. “Herbs heal the body, but the mind and spirit benefits of Ayurveda come from making healthy eating, exercise and mindfulness a part of your everyday life.” But like all forms of complementary medicine, Ayurvedic remedies can cause side effects. Speak to your GP before trying them, and never alter the dose of your regular medications before getting the approval from your doctor. Visit the Australian Natural

Ayurvedic herbs come in powders, tablets or liquid extracts. However, some herbs can be mixed with carrier liquids (such as honey or milk) to maximise potency.
?
Another easy way to try Ayurvedic herbs is by adding it into your cooking. “Herbs like turmeric, ginger, fenugreek and bitter melon have been used to boost both flavour and nutrition in Indian cuisine for thousands of years,” says Krishna. ver noticed how listening to the sound of waves or sinking into a warm bath has an instantly soothing effect? While most of us have been aware of the relaxing nature of water for some time, this effect is garnering some extra attention thanks to the new wellness trend, Blue Mind Theory (BMT). There are many things you can do to tap into this way of life – and some don’t even involve leaving your home! Nutritionist, naturopath and registered nurse, Madeline Calfas, reveals how…
BLUE MIND EXPLAINED The concept of BMT was born from the similarly titled book, Blue Mind by marine biologist
Wallace Nichols, to describe the meditative state being near water can have. “He explores how water can help improve our overall performance in life and increase our generosity and compassion,” Madeline explains. “It can reinforce our connection to nature and the environment, increase our creativity, health and wellbeing, and even help with anxiety.”
WHERE IT BEGAN So why is H20 so relaxing? We may have to go way back (and we mean way back!) to where it began for us all – in the womb. “Our first sounds are of water, so it makes sense to think that humans identify water with a sense of safety and being protected,” Madeline explains. “When you give your newborn baby their first bath, you will often see a look of contentment and even a smile as they’re surrounded by warm water. baby will often stop once they’re in the bath.”
LOSE YOURSELF An avid traveller, Wallace firmly believes one of the best ways to get to your blue mind is to have a holiday by the water – and think about all the tropical island brochures you’ve seen, or how many daydreams you’ve had about sipping cocktails by a pool or beach! While COVID might have shut down our overseas travel plans, there’s a whole raft of underutilised water ways around us – from road tripping along the coast to a weekend getaway at a nearby lake. Another key element is a digital detox. Capturing your blissed out state on Instagram might be your first instinct, but the best way to appreciate the peace and quiet of water is without your phone in tow.

WE’RE WATER BEINGS Madeline says there may be another deeper reason we love water so much. “As human beings, we’re predominantly comprised of water,” she explains. “Our brains are approximately 80 per cent water, and there’s the belief that as ‘water beings’ it’s only natural that we’re drawn to water. So, when the feelings of overwhelm and anxiety
start to creep up, or you’re just trying to figure it all out, find some water and let the tide take you where it may!”

SOU N D IT OUT “The sound of the waves often provides a rhythmic sensation that is quite calming,” says Madeline. “The sounds of rivers, lakes and creeks are just as powerful.” Want to give it a try? Download an app like White Noise, which offers oceanic sounds to soothe you to sleep. O CE A N IN T E R I OR A little sea-inspired decor might be just what you need. “Even a photo or painting of a lake or ocean can be used in the same way as the real thing,” says Madeline. 67

OUR RESIDENT ASTROLOGER PREDICTS YOUR WEEK FROM MAY 17 TO MAY 23
WITH JENNY BLUME TAURUS
APR 21 – MAY 21
Your finances are catching the celestial spotlight. Events over the next six weeks might prompt a reappraisal, so hold off on major decisions until the dust settles. Meanwhile, a stream of catch-ups and local events should keep you on your toes, while for active Bulls, a new pastime might hit the spot. LUCKY FLOWERS: ANYTHING SENTIMENTAL
LEO
JUL 24 – AUG 23
Hope you like surprises! An unexpected offer could make your week, while on the family front, a conversation could open your eyes – and help you to make a decision. With your friendship sector glowing, join a like-minded group or chase up old friends. Group activities will bring out your best over the coming weeks – especially if charities are involved. LUCKY NUMBERS: 2, 6, 9, 16, 22, 28
SCORPIO
OCT 24 – NOV 22
Lucky stars may bring unexpected windfalls as winter draws closer, but don’t let that be your cue to throw caution to the wind. Home or health-related expenses could add up quickly, and with your sentimental side in full bloom, a family getaway might beckon. Family investments may also hit the agenda, but getting organised should take the load off.
GEMINI
MAY 22 – JUN 21
Hip, hip, hooray! You should have plenty to celebrate over the coming weeks, including your birthday. With Jupiter perched on your pinnacle, the cooler months are ripe with potential. As your networking skills intensify, a sideline business might blossom, while at work, a golden opportunity could arise. LUCKY COLOURS: YELLOW AND ORANGE
VIRGO
AUG 24 – SEP 23
Your stars are growing luckier by the day! An exciting project might get you buzzing or friends might introduce someone with whom you instantly click. Some Virgos could be offered a promotion. Your responsibilities may feel heavy at times, but it won’t all be hard work. Bonds with friends and co-workers should grow as a sense of solidarity increases. LUCKY DAYS: THURSDAY AND SUNDAY
SAGITTARIUS NOV 23 – DEC 21 Let the love in! Over the coming weeks, couples might find Venus’ romantic vibes drawing them closer. With heart-to-hearts filling the agenda, it’s time to get things off your chest, not just with your family, but with close friends too. Sunday’s moon might even bring a reconciliation.
LUCKY DAYS: TUESDAY AND FRIDAY
LUCKY COLOURS: BURGUNDY AND CHARCOAL
AQUARIUS
PISCES
JAN 21 – FEB 19
Ready to take up a challenge? Whether it’s a work-related project or a quest of a more personal nature, cast your doubts aside and dive on in – preferably before Mercury turns retrograde on Sunday week! Creative stars could make this a productive period, with dormant painting or decorating skills being activated. LUCKY DAYS: WEDNESDAY AND SUNDAY
FEB 20 – MAR 20
Throw yourself into something new and shake things up. Catch a movie after work, join a club with friends or check out a local trivia night. Many Fish will find themselves searching for more stimulation over the cooler months, and with Jupiter boosting your confidence, you might find it. For romantics, these sensual stars could rekindle old fires – or light new ones! LUCKY FLOWERS: ORANGE LILIES
CANCER
JUN 22 – JUL 23
If you’ve fallen into a rut, positive changes are heading your way. Some Crabs might even launch a health overhaul, and with Mars energising your sign, efforts should snowball. On a deeper level, your search for meaning could intensify over the next few weeks, so let yourself ponder a few possibilities. Fascinating new experiences are coming. LUCKY SYMBOLS: STARS
LIBRA
SEP 24 – OCT 23
This looks like a mind-expanding month for you. Seminars or self-help books might open your eyes through late autumn, or unusual therapies like hypnosis or kinesiology could get to the core of a long-term problem. With your travel zone now fully activated, why not organise a weekend away? If friends or family are involved, all the better! LUCKY COLOURS: SHADES OF GREEN
CAPRICORN DEC 22 – JAN 20 If you’ve taken on too much, start off-loading. Resist stewing over problems, and instead, start sharing both your thoughts and your tasks. At work, new systems could save time and money, while on the health front, new routines may beckon. MAR 21 – APR 20
Reunions might hit the agenda as winter approaches, and as people open up, you could discover a few skeletons lurking in the closet. Just be careful not to speak out of turn or someone’s trust could be broken. For singles, an old beau could enter your orbit, but if you’re already attached, watch out: connections formed under May’s fated patterns could be irresistible! LUCKY SIGNS: GEMINI AND VIRGO

Can you see my husband getting a full-time job? JANE, TOWNSVILLE, QLD. Times have been tough of late, particularly in tourist areas, but things appear to be looking up in your husband’s chart. I would encourage him to apply for jobs from late June through to July. As Jupiter – the planet of luck and expansion – shifts into his chart’s career sector, his chances of success should pick up. Wishing you and your family the best of luck!
Q
Should my grandson start school next year? My daughter is considering holding him back until 2023. ANNIE, WOLLONGONG, NSW. With his Aries Mars and Aries Sun, your grandson’s energy levels look high – sitting still wouldn’t be easy for him, although this should improve from age 7 or 8. It can be a tricky decision for April boys (I would seek the advice of his kindergarten teachers), but like your daughter, I lean towards holding him back. Another year of tearing around might do him the world of good.
Compiled by Elizabeth Dimopoulos.

My daughters, aged 7 and 8, are quite competitive and argumentative with each other. I’m wondering if you have any tips and insights? MICHELLE, SYDNEY, NSW. Looking that their charts, I can see they are quite similar and both look to be high

THE MAGIC IN ART Artwork can carry a powerful resonance, so before you hang anything, take a good look at what you’re inviting into your home. Depictions of sadness or violence can conjure up negative feelings, as can sharp, abstract angles – particularly near busy doors or staircases – as they have enough energy circulating already. On the flip side, landscapes and flowing lines tend to promote achievers – so yes, sibling rivalry could be an issue. Your younger daughter may feel that she lives in her older sister’s rather large shadow, so it’s important to let them excel in different areas.
a subconscious sense of peace and wellbeing. Children’s drawings and artwork can add a wonderful sense of joy and warmth to a room, especially when placed on a western wall. Just take care not to overrepresent one child. As for bedrooms, avoid solitary figures and opt for feel-good, romantic works instead. As they say, a picture’s worth a thousand words!

gibb ‘I IMAGIN GROWI NG WITH MY BROTHER YEARS AFTER THEIR DEATHS, THE BEE GEES LEGEND STILL THINKS OF THEM FONDLY
THE BEE GEES: HOW CAN YOU MEND A BROKEN HEART IS ON ITUNES In their prime, brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice – aka the Bee Gees – were one of the most popular bands in the world.

ifty years ago, the Bee Gees – brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb – were the most popular band in the world. But success strained their relationship, and they fell out several times over their career. Now, the last remaining brother, 74-year-old Barry, says he always believed that despite their ups and downs, the three would grow old together and reminisce about their past. “I always imagined us all sitting around in our 80s and laughing about everything that happened to us, but what did I know?” he told The Zane Lowe Interview Series.
ED OLD Y S’
“It was never going to happen, but we always thought about that: ‘Can you imagine when the pressure is off and we are just old men?’” Maurice, only 53, died in 2003 due to complications from a twisted intestine, and Robin was 62 when he died in 2012 from kidney failure. Youngest brother Andy, also a musician, died from a heart condition in 1988, aged 30, after battling addiction for years. But Barry reveals he finds comfort in dreaming of them. “I dream of them all the time, it’s like real life, and I wake up and they are not here,” he says. “It can happen every few nights … I can see Maurice and I talk to Robin, and then I realise when I wake up that it’s not real, and I can’t believe in the dream how happy we all were. I do think, ‘Oh, Rob is smiling. It is OK.’” Barry recently participated in the documentary The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, which chronicles the band’s rise to success and unique partnership. But he refuses to watch it. “I can’t watch all my brothers pass away. It is just something I can’t do, but I heard it has worked out wonderfully,” he says.

fter being cancelled last year due to COVID-19, Eurovision is back and more exciting than ever! Once again, Joel Creasey and Myf Warhurst are hosting SBS’s coverage of the singing extravaganza – but this time they’re doing it from Australia. Here, comedian Joel fills us in on what to expect... The most exciting thing about hosting Eurovision is… Getting to spend time with my best mate, Myf Warhurst. She is one of my favourite humans in the world. Working with her is utterly sublime. There are few people with her talent.

LOVE ON THE SPECTRUM Returning for a second season, this warm-hearted and uplifting series will follow a new group of people on the autism spectrum as they navigate the world of dating and relationships. TUE. 8.30PM ON ABC
The weird thing about hosting Eurovision this year will be… No frequent flyer miles! Jokes (sorta). It’ll be strange but fun waking up with Australia to commentate the show. Something fans would be surprised to know about Eurovision is that… It’s not particularly glamorous backstage, in a charming way. All the artists queue up to buy a sandwich. No fancy catering or any of that! My favourite Eurovision act of all time is… [2018 Eurovision runner-up] Eleni Foureira!
Fans would be surprised to learn that… I actually have my boat license. I can skipper a motorboat up to 80 feet! Before going onstage to do stand-up I feel… Excited. And hungry. I like to eat post-show. My funniest onstage mishap was… I once walked onstage and misstepped straight into the front row onto an old lady. An ambulance had to be called!

ust when they thought there were no more surprises, the housemates are in for the shock of their lives when six new intruders enter the house this week. locks and bubbly personalities. However, they aren’t to be underestimated, because these Melbourne-based sisters tell New Idea they already have a few tactics to remove the other housemates from the game and win the top prize. “I will be a strategic mastermind,” teases Alex. “I have a few strategies up my sleeve and I think the housemates won’t expect it, so I will just let them believe that, but my brain is always pondering.” And the housemates better be honest with the twins,
BEN WILLIAMS 20 YEARS ON
Ben Williams was the very first person to win Big Brother back in 2001. But few people know what happened next for the reality star. After the show finished, he quickly moved into sports commentary before taking on his biggest role as a husband and father. He is currently living in South Australia with his wife Jade Robran and their two kids, Sol, 9, and Harry, 8. Ben and Jade, a TV and radio presenter, tied the knot in Bali back in 2008, and lived in Sydney and Melbourne before finally settling in Adelaide.
Ben, 41, is now the director and owner of his business, Players Ink. The company represents professional athletes and media personalities, helping them to build their careers and negotiate contracts. Ben has chosen not to discuss Big Brother publicly for many years. A former housemate confirmed: “A lot of people think Ben regrets being on the show, but those who know him are aware it is not the case. Just like his family and private life, he just doesn’t feel the need to share everything with the general public.”
DER ALERT!
OUBLE OARRIVEDE because Charlotte says she absolutely can’t stand “liars”. Alex is thrilled to be joining the show this season – and appearing alongside her sister is even better! Plus, it’s their last chance to spend some quality time together before Alex moves out of the family home to live with her boyfriend. “My sister is moving out after this,” says Charlotte. “So we thought what better way to celebrate and make memories than in the Big Brother house.” Should one of the twins
win, they plan on splitting the prize money. And with Alex’s half, she reveals that she’s planning to “treat myself to something special and then put the rest towards my mortgage or getting an investment property”. Meanwhile, Charlotte will “use part as a house deposit and then go on a tropical holiday”.

BRENTON, 31, NSW
Single account manager Brenton is relying on his charms to get ahead in the game. “I think I will be the guy that gets to know certain people on a much deeper level,” he says. “I get a booking at least once a week from a close friend that needs to talk something through.”
ADRIANA, 53, NSW This married mother of three grown-up sons wants to show Australia that women aged over 45 can have a family, run a business and still “give the young ones a run for their money” – but she isn’t too keen on “sharing a room with other people”.
GABE, 27, QLD Ben married Jade Robran and they share two children, Sol and Harry.
Originally from the Philippines, Gabe moved to Brisbane when he was 15 years old. A passionate foodie, Gabe is not looking forward to living off rations in the house. “I do like to eat, but I don’t want to be put up for eviction because I eat too much.”

COLIN FIRTH’S
MIDLIFE CRISIS! Heart-throb Colin Firth has friends worried he’s going through “an odd phase” after rediscovering his teenage broodiness through the music of Pink Floyd. Friends say the 60-year-old actor, who is currently filming an untitled documentary about the team who designed Pink Floyd’s famous album covers, “is going through some kind of midlife crisis” as he spends time alone listening to music. “He’s kind of
yearning for the ‘good old days’, and who can blame him after the past year we’ve had, but there’s a real kind of misery about it all, like he’s in deep mourning for years gone by,” tells a pal. “Thankfully there are no new sports cars in the driveway, but he’s really become very solitary, preferring to play about with an old [vinyl record] turntable than spend time with his friends. Everyone’s a bit worried for our Colin right now.”
BLOND IT LIKE BECKHAM!
Son of a gun! Romeo Beckham is the spitting image of his dad, David, after debuting a new blond buzz cut. David, who rocked a similar style back in the noughties, couldn’t help but rib his 18-year-old son for stealing his look, writing on social media: “Nice hair … I wonder where you got that idea from.” Romeo’s mum Victoria also weighed in on the haircut, gushing, “Wow! Love!”

She may not be open to rejoining her famous girl group, but Victoria Beckham is still very much a Spice Girl at heart! The star showed off her youthful physique in a form-fitting garment, which was very reminiscent of her Posh days.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 star and Dean have endured many ups and downs during their relationship, namely his infidelity. But as these pictures show, the couple isn’t giving up on things just yet.
ADELE’S ESTRANGED DAD PASSES AWAY
After years of estrangement, the family feud between Adele and her father, Mark Evans, reached a sad conclusion after he passed away recently, at the age of 57, following a battle with bowel cancer. News of Mark’s passing came just one week after his superstar daughter celebrated her 33rd birthday. Paul left Adele and her mum, Penny Adkins, when the singer was just 3 years old. While he 88
continued to play a role in her life, they had a major falling out around 2011, after Paul said in an interview that Adele struggled to find love due to “abandonment issues”. In 2012, she hit back, saying that if she ever saw Paul again, she would spit in his face. “Adele is shaken by the news, but sees that it’s a tie to a difficult part of her life gone … Now she can have some peace,” said a source.
Adele’s relationship with her dad, Paul, remained “acrimonious to the end”, says a source.
NEW ROMANCE? MELISSA GEORGE & JEN’S EX!
Aussie actress Melissa George has been growing “very close” to Jennifer Aniston’s ex-husband Justin Theroux. Recently, Melissa posted a cosy Instagram photo of her and Justin, prompting one follower to gush, “You guys actually make a very cute couple.” Sources say Justin was immediately taken with Melissa after they first met filming Mulholland Drive back in 2001, and sparks quickly flew when they started working on their new TV series, The Mosquito Coast. “She’s down to earth,
but with that Parisian sophistication he adores,” says an insider. “It’s not hard to see why they’re a great match – she’s just as obsessed with dogs as he is!” Melissa has had a tough time with love in the past. After divorcing her first husband Claudio Dabed in 2011, she started a whirlwind romance with French businessman Jean David Blanc, with whom she has two sons. It wasn’t to end happily as Melissa was forced to remain in Paris to continue seeing her children, after the couple split in 2016.
Melissa even starred with Jen in the 2005 thriller Derailed.
