Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Do not go gentle into that good night by Dylan Thomas

Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight And learn, too late, they grieved on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

It’s also helpful to realize that this very body that we have, that’s sitting right here right now…with its aches and its pleasures…is exactly what we need to be fully human, fully awake, fully pema chodron alive.

1) When a man asks you a question and then refuses to look at you as you answer, just keep going. Don’t let his rudeness silence you.

2) W en he nterrupts you, hr eturn it he favor.

3) When he says things you know are not true, correct him. Repeatedly.

4) When he attempts to bully you, mow him down with facts.

5) And whenev er possible, smil e. Nothing rattles an angry man like a looks h woman who appy to ann oy him.

HAVE YOU SEEN THE PARENT TRAP? IT IS THE BEST MOVIE. I AM NOT KIDDING. if you have not seen this masterpiece starring lindsay lohan and dennis quaid and natasha richardson (r.i.p.) and also the chemistry teacher from joan of arcadia, you are MISSING OUT. this is probably one of THE most influential films for me as a child, and I owe it to Hallie Parker to turning me into a bonafide Kewl Kid~. (This is false I have never been cool, as evidenced by my use of the phrase “Kewl Kid.”) This movie is maybe the greatest for a bunch of reasons. ONE. linday lohan. she is adorable in this movie and it makes you forget that she is a mess now and she is so funny and SHE HAS A GREAT BRITISH ACCENT. and she also has an amazing rapport with herself and is the heart and soul of this movie.

TWO. dennis quaid & natasha richardson are so charming and so cute and you want them to be together forever not just because of their scheming kids but because they genuinely LOVE EACH OTHER. THREE. this movie is about family and friendship and exploration and travel and doing new things and making trouble, and these are the kinds of important values you should always carry with you. i am being very serious here. the parent trap taught me how to be a kid, and later, taught me how to be an adult. most importantly, it taught me that making mistakes is a good thing, because people will love you no matter what. and if that doesn’t make a good movie, really, what does?
