The GRUENE UMC NEWS

JUNE 2018

NEW Summer Preaching Series: God at work Grace and Peace! I wanted to give you some news about an upcoming 6 week sermon series that we will start on May 27th through July 1st called “God at Work.” This sermon series is an overview of 1st and 2nd Samuel that will invite us to see God’s grace at work in the scriptures and actively working among God's people today calling us, seeing us, leading us, saving us, and uniting us.

Kate is a little scared to take this step out in faith but she is also excited because as she says… “God’s got this!” she knows she can do all things through Christ who gives her strength!

God has blessed us with several folks here at Gruene who feel a called to ministry- and we celebrate how God is working in their lives... this sermon series will include an opportunity for them preach at the 8:30 and 9:50 worship services.

Pastor Aaron Carter and I will be mentoring / coaching them as they prepare to preach. Please come and support these new pastors as they step up and proclaim the Good news of God’s grace- at work today.

Debbie Head is entering her final year at seminary and will be coming on staff here at GUMC as a part time associate pastor starting this summer! It is such a blessing to have her on the team. Jesse Franklin will be preaching on June 6th before he moves to his first appointment as the pastor of FUMC Cotulla at the end of June! This news is bittersweet, we are sad to see Jesse and his family go and yet at the same time we are excited about the work God has for him in his new ministry there. Kate Gideon will be preaching her first sermon ever at 8:30 and 9:50 on June 24th.

because as she says… “God’s got this!” she knows she can do all things through Christ who gives her strength!

The property management division of Reliance Real Estate, known as Reliance PMPROs, has generously offered to have a food drive to benefit Steve’s Pantry. Our own Worship Leader, Mike Ramirez, is coordinating the drive so if you see him please thank him. The food drive will be on June 24th - 29th. As an extra bonus, they will be delivering the food on Monday, July 2nd and will hang around to see if there is anything they could do to help out that afternoon. What a blessing this is!!! Your Missions Team at Work: In May, your Missions Team voted to give the Children’s Advocacy Center of Comal County $2, 500 for their operational budget. As Ms. Trendy Sharp stated in her letter, “The Mission of the Children’s Advocacy Center is to provide a neutral, child-friendly agency to the community that facilitates a multidisciplinary approach in the prevention, detection, investigation, and treatment of child abuse. In 2017, there were 462 children who came through our doors for Forensic Interviews. This number increased by 113 children from 2016. Here at the CACCC, we do not expect these numbers to decrease in coming years, and as we account for the population growth that will bring more families and children to homes and neighborhoods in Comal County, we need to keep our facility open.” Please check out their website at www.comalcac.org. Here is a brief wish list if you wish to contribute directly: small bags goldfish crackers, individually wrapped cookies, fruit snacks, fruit cups, juice boxes and bottled water. Please call (830)626-2543 before dropping off any items. We also partially funded Ernesto Portillo’s mission trip to Honduras with $750. Ernesto is traveling with a charity called Impact Water. They were formed in San Antonio about 30 years ago to provide clean water to villages in Honduras.

Impact Water “has changed the lives of over 6,195 villagers. Clean water means 80% of childhood diseases are eliminated. We’ve helped not only these 6,195 villagers, but their children and their children’s children dating back to 1986.” Please check out their website at www.impactwater.org. If you have ideas to share with your Missions Team, join us the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm in Steve’s Pantry or contact Pastor Aaron at aaron@grueneumc.org or Sarah Krull at srkrull4@gmail.com. We’d love to hear from you.
