Another year has passed already?
Welcome to our new issue of Sunny Side Up, our internal information platform for everything that happened during the year. Because it’s always exciting to find out what goes on in such a large global team over the course of the year.
2023 was a turbulent year in every respect. For LOHMANN BREEDERS in particular, with the challenges that we once again faced with Avian Influenza, which did not directly affect our production facilities but was rampant worldwide. However, the past year was also a year with many positive events. We actively participated in several exhibitions and our aula in Cuxhaven was very popular.
We also finally had the opportunity to come together again in Cuxhaven for the Office Days in the summer, hold our Sales & Service Meeting in December in the usual manner and round off the year with a nice Christmas party.
We are also presenting ourselves to the outside world with a new tagline that brings a breath of fresh air to our image and offers many new opportunities to present ourselves as a company. Because what really counts for all of us in the end? It’s the egg.
With this in mind, I hope you enjoy reading this year’s edition of Sunny Side Up. I hope that we will once again achieve a lot together in 2024 and overcome all challenges as a good team.
Thank you all very much for the good cooperation and the great team spirit in difficult times!

TAGLINE BECOMES EGGLINE
THE POWER OF A SLOGAN IN CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS
Nicole Rehse PR / CommunicationA good tagline is a powerful tool for communicating a company’s message and standing out from the competition. It can capture the essence of the brand and create a strong emotional connection with customers.
Developing a new tagline is an exciting process that requires creativity and collaboration. In this article, we take a look behind the scenes at the creation of the new slogan “It’s the egg” and how it revolutionises the corporate message.
The process of creating a new slogan
The creation of a new slogan begins with an intensive brainstorming process. Who could be better suited for this than the people who deal with the “LOHMANN brand” on a daily basis? Our colleagues at LOHMANN BREEDERS were able to contribute ideas and suggestions.
The exchange of perspectives and experiences was crucial in order to develop a slogan that reflects the diversity of the company.
After all, our very own “biodiversity” is already evident in the company structure and the internationality of our employees.
Brainstorming among colleagues: Generating ideas and inspiration
No ideas are rejected during the brainstorming process. Every colleague at LOHMANN BREEDERS had the opportunity to contribute their thoughts and suggestions. The diversity of ideas is the key to discovering innovative and unique slogans.
From humorous to serious, from creative to factual - all ideas were welcome and served as a starting point for further discussions.
The selection process: narrowing down the options
After collecting a large number of ideas, it’s time to narrow down the selection. Criteria are established to evaluate the slogans and identify those that best fit the corporate message.
Some of the criteria were relevance, memorability and originality. The selection team discusses and analyses each suggestion to reduce the list of options.
68 suggestions: A wide range of possibilities
A total of 68 suggestions were collected for the new slogan. Each suggestion was carefully scrutinised and evaluated. The wide range of possibilities reflects the creativity and diversity of the employees.
From playful and metaphorical slogans to direct and concise statements, there was a wealth of ideas for the selection team to choose from.
Selection of the 3 best proposals: Criteria and decision-making
After intensive discussions and evaluations, a shortlist of three proposals was made. These proposals met all the criteria and had the potential to communicate the corporate message effectively.
However, the decision as to which of the three proposals would ultimately be selected was not an easy one.
However, it became clear that most of the proposals focussed on the one essential thing.
Focusing on the egg: the central theme of the new slogan
Now the experts had to get to work. The advertising agency The Mine from Copenhagen, Denmark, helped us with the final freshup. All the shortlisted proposals centred on the egg as a symbol of creativity, potential and growth. The egg is a strong visual image that immediately attracts attention and arouses emotions.
LOHMANN BREEDERS is the only breeding company that already has the egg in its logo. A unique selling point that should not be ignored here.
Our egg quality has been unrivalled for years, be it shell colour, uniformity or breaking strength. It’s the LOHMANN egg.
The characteristics of a good slogan: catchy, concise and impressive
A good slogan is characterised by certain features. It should be catchy and easy to remember. A concise slogan is short and precise in order to convey the message quickly and effectively. In addition, the slogan should leave a lasting impression on the reader or listener and arouse emotions.
“It’s the egg” fulfils all these characteristics and has the potential to leave a strong impression on customers.
It expresses the company’s conviction that there is potential for something great in every person and in every idea.
Implementing the new slogan: integration into branding and marketing
Once the new slogan has been selected, it is important to integrate it seamlessly into the company’s branding and marketing.
The slogan should be present in all communication channels, be it on the website, in social media or in advertising campaigns.
Consistent use of the slogan strengthens brand recognition and association with the corporate message.
Conclusion: How “It’s the egg” revolutionises the corporate message
A good slogan can revolutionise the corporate message and leave a strong impression on customers. “It’s the egg” is a slogan that impresses with its simplicity and clarity. It conveys the company’s message in a memorable and emotional way.
The development of this slogan was a creative and collaborative process that reflects the diversity and potential of LOHMANN BREEDERS.
“It’s the egg” is now used as a central part of our communication to strengthen the brand and build a strong connection with customers.
So we are looking forward to next year, when our new slogan conquers the world.
But don’t worry, LOHMANN stands for innovation, but also for high quality standards that always remain based on our fundamental principles and that our customers can rely on:
For every management the right hen, for every market the right egg Breeding for Success....Together!

IT News Essay: The Future of Animal Breeding
Artificial Intelligence as an Enabler of Efficiency and Innovation
Jan Kraßmann Online MarketingIn the current IT News, we would like to take the opportunity to take a look at the developments in artificial intelligence, which entered the world stage about a year ago.
Our central question for the AI was: Where does it see itself as support in different departments?
To make this question more concrete, we asked it to give three examples that illustrate how AI can be used in different areas.
In addition, we asked the AI for its perspective, whether it can imagine replacing entire departments in the future. We present the results of this research in this short article.
In the emerging era of animal breeding, we are facing an exciting transformation driven by the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Our vision for the coming years includes not only a revolutionized breeding practice, but also a profound improvement in the departments of sales, IT, marketing, logistics, technical support, management and genetics (animal breeding).
Here, we take a futuristic look at how AI will transform every segment of our business structure.
Sale
Personalized customer approach
In sales, AI systems are used to create personalized customer profiles.
By analyzing purchase histories and customer preferences, AI enables tailored sales offers tailored to the individual needs of our customers.
Automated transactions through chatbots
AI-driven chatbots not only handle simple requests, but also perform transactions automatically.
These automated assistants are available around the clock, making the sales process more efficient and allowing our sales reps to focus on more strategic tasks.
Dynamic pricing
In the future, AI will develop dynamic pricing strategies that continuously adapt to market trends.
Our sales department will benefit from real-time adjustments to react flexibly to competitive conditions and ensure optimal positioning in the market.
Proactive troubleshooting
AI in IT will move from reactive to proactive troubleshooting.
The systems will continuously monitor the health of our IT infrastructure and automatically take action to prevent potential problems or resolve them early.
Advanced security monitoring
AI-based security systems will analyze real-time network activity to identify unusual behavior patterns.
Automatic protections will help eliminate threats in the shortest possible time, and the security of our IT systems will be taken to a new level.
Automated data analysis
AI will improve data analysis in IT through machine learning.
Automated analysis of large amounts of data will identify patterns and trends that are relevant to our business processes, enabling informed strategic decisions.
Marketing
Hyper-personalized advertising
In the marketing department, AI will pave the way for hyperpersonalized advertising campaigns.
By analyzing individual online behavior and historical interactions, tailored ads are created that significantly increase the chances of success.
Automated content creation
AI will help marketing teams automate the creation of engaging content.
By analyzing trends and popular topics, AI will generate content that best addresses the needs of the target audience.
Real-time market research
AI-powered systems will enable real-time market research by analyzing vast amounts of data from various sources.
Marketing teams will be able to react more quickly to developments in order to optimize their strategies in a dynamic market environment.
Logistics
Intelligent route planning
In the logistics department, AI will perform precise route optimization for deliveries.
Real-time data on traffic, weather, and other factors is used to calculate the most efficient route and shorten delivery times.
Optimized inventory management
AI will make accurate predictions about inventory needs by analyzing sales data and customer demand.
Businesses will be able to optimize their inventory levels to minimize excess inventory while ensuring the availability of in-demand products.
Predictive maintenance
In logistics, AI will monitor the condition of vehicles and systems.
By analyzing sensor data, it will predict potential failures and schedule maintenance to minimize unplanned business interruptions.

By integrating data analytics and machine learning, automated reports can be generated that provide detailed insights into the performance of departments and business processes.
Risk management
AI-powered risk management systems will continuously monitor various parameters to identify potential risks.
AI will detect red flags early on and enable senior management to take preventative measures to mitigate risks.
Genetics (Animal Breeding)
Efficient Breeding Selection
AI will make breeding selection in the genetics department more precise and efficient.
Advanced analyses of genomic data make it possible to select the best genetic traits for our breeding animals.
Innovative Breeding Programs
The Genetics Department will benefit from AI-powered predictive models to develop innovative breeding programs.
These programs will aim to maximize the productivity and health of our breeding animals.
Predictive health management
AI-based models are used in health monitoring to identify genetic markers for diseases at an early stage.
This allows not only preventive health care, but also the optimization of our breeding results.
AI as a companion into the future
In our vision of the future, artificial intelligence is not only seen as a tool, but as an indispensable partner in our daily work.
By efficiently integrating AI into all departments of our livestock farm, we are striving for an era of innovation, efficiency and sustainability.
We recognize that the synergy of human know-how and AI support not only allows us to optimize our operations, but also to create a new dimension in animal breeding.
The future of livestock farming is a partnership between humans and technology that leads to improved animal welfare, higher productivity, and sustainable business growth.

March 2013
Komilbek Kasimov has a university degree as Master of Business Administration in Agriculture and joined the team at LOHMANN BREEDERS in March 2013.
He started his work at LOHMANN with a familiarisation period of several weeks in Cuxhaven, where he could get to know the everyday life of a breeding company. All in preparation to strengthen the Sales & Service Team in Eastern Europe and the CIS countries.
But things turned out differently. In April 2014, Komilbek took over the independent organisation of pedigree and grandparent hatches in our hatchery in Altenwalde. He also worked on projects in the genetics department. He also established the pedigree hatches in Canada.
Since June 2019, he has taken over the animal care and performance testing of pedigree hens in our subsidiary OOO “Lohmann Breeders Rus”.
We congratulate Komilbek on his anniversary and wish him continued success!

Collaborative Journey through the Events of 2023 Together
Andrea Callwitz Head of MarketingWhile we thought that 2022 was remarkable, 2023 has surpassed all expectations.
Our event space at the LOHMANN headquarters in Cuxhaven was highly sought after.
In total, we welcomed over 500 customers and partners from all over the world. Our Technical Service experts shared their knowledge about our amazing LOHMANN breeds in more than 23 LOHMANN SCHOOLS and numerous smaller events.
The numbers speak for themselves:
23 LOHMANN-Schools and many visits to Cuxhaven
Around 500 customers and friends
From all 5 continents
565 liters of coffee
48 nations
In addition to our usual events, we were finally able to invite our customers to the 59th LOHMANN Franchise Distributor Meeting in Hamburg after a 3-year hiatus due to COVID-19.
170 customers, partners, and friends accepted this invitation
The detailed report can also be found here in the Sunny Side Up!
The event series ended, as always, with our Sales & Service Week and the traditional Christmas party in Cuxhaven!!
The events in 2023 were not the only ones that were well attended, but our LOHMANN Sales and Technical Service team also represented us at many large and small international exhibitions and congresses.
Our LOHMANN BREEDERS Corporate Stand was also used twice, at the VIV ASIA in Bangkok and for the first time ever at the CAHE in China!
It was a highly successful and fantastic event year for LOHMANN BREEDERS!!
A BIG THANK YOU to our Technical Service team for all their knowledge, presentations, and everything that makes up LOHMANN customer service, and of course also to the Sales and Marketing team!
This multitude of events and exhibitions requires team effort at all levels!
We look forward to 2024 with you!
…and how was our year at H&N INTERNATIONAL?
We look back on a year that was packed with experiences – after some of our colleagues went to the IPPE in January 2023 as usual, the “big thing” to happen in March was the bi-annual VIV Asia in Bangkok.
Our booth was very well visited through all three days of the trade fair with prospects and long-term customers touching base with us again from all over the world.
And, also in March, we held our CageFree Academy for the European and American egg producers.
Perspectives showed again how much networking skills and quality dialogue matter.
And we welcomed new colleagues: Amal Rabia , our new veterinarian colleague, Evgeny Kravchenko , our new key account manager for Russia and CIS Countries and Mafalda Lopes , our new Director of Planning and Logistics.
Sadly, we also had to wave good-bye to our colleague Maurice Raccoursier from Chile, but we wish him the best of luck on the choosen academical career path to become a University professor in Georgia, USA.
Our 4th Distributor Conference in October took us to Istanbul. 85 participants in total made this one a truly special event!
Starting with a special appearance of three dancing Dervishes on the first evening we took a deep dive headlong into three and a half days of genetic, biosecurity and business updates and a lot of interactive collaboration.
And hard partying, too!
Really almost everybody was dancing after the iconic award giving ceremony of our “Arty” Award for the best parent stock and layer flocks. We had handed that award before, but after digitizing and publishing our old company movie with our founder Arthur Heisdorf featured, the name of the award came by itsself: Arty.
We believe Art and Mary would have liked it, because it represents their crystal-clear vision: simply breeding the best!
Our November Academy was equally rich in interaction, collaboration, and exchange.
Together with our valued friends and customers from Algeria, Angola, Brazil, Morocco, Nepal, Spain, Uganda, and USA we went through some highenergy days.
We closed the year with our internal Sales and Service Meeting just before the end of year holidays.
Barbecue
Jessica Korella MarketingIn the summer we took the opportunity to officially open our new terrace and what could be better suited for this purpose than a cheerful barbecue during best weather?
Luck was on our side and a bright blue sky stretched above us, not a cloud spoiled the perfect backdrop for the event.
Thanks to catering, the grill was perfectly equipped with a large selection of juicy meat and fish, fresh vegetables and a variety of marinades and spices. The smell of grilled meat filled the air while the crackling of coals heightened the anticipation of the feast to come.
The guests not only enjoyed the food, but also the relaxed atmosphere. Laughter, cheerful conversations and the clinking of glasses announced the informal, collegial community that was the focus of this evening.
Refreshments were plentiful and thanks to a wide selection of cool drinks, no one was left thirsty.
Our barbecue was a complete success. It united the team, created memories and let us enjoy the joys of summer to the fullest.
Christmas Party
Jessica Korella MarketingIn the first weekend of December, the Oberdeck was turned into a lively and joyful Christmas-haven for our yearly Christmas party.
The warm and cozy ambiance provided a pleasant backdrop for our esteemed colleagues from all over the world, including retirees and lab colleagues, to come together and celebrate.
With twinkling lights and beautifully decorated tables, our Lohmann family gathered for an evening filled with laughter and joyful conversations.
The buffet offered a diverse range of flavors, satisfying all culinary desires. As the night went on, the dance floor became bustling with people who joyfully danced until the late hours.
This year’s Christmas party was undoubtedly a great success, celebrating the unity and diversity of our workforce and leaving us with a sense of community as we enter the Christmas season.

News from the lab
Andrea Callwitz Head of Marketing Mareike Lühmann and Jannik SaftA lot happened in the laboratory in 2023.
Starting with a new acquisition: the “MALDI-TOFMS”
We have been using a new device for a few months now. The MALDI-TOF-MS is a device for the identification of bacterial isolates using mass spectrometry and is used in our laboratory as a new, innovative and fast method. If bacterial isolates are available, it is possible to identify many isolates in a short time - within hours. The rapid identification of species means that tests can be completed earlier and findings can be issued promptly.
Furthermore, the entire LDG team welcomes two new employees in 2023!

Anne-Kathrin started as a veterinarian specializing in quality management in the LDG laboratory on 1st February 2023.
She studied at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover.

Small Gesture - Big Impact in its 6th year of supporting the Duck Race 2023
Andrea Callwitz Head of MarketingFor the past 6 years, the employees of LOHMANN BREEDERS GmbH have been donating the proceeds from birthday flower bouquets to a good cause.
As mentioned in the previous issue of “Sunny Side Up”, the management has decided to donate this money to the Lions Damenclub CuxhavenLeuchtfeuer, ensuring that our contribution supports local social projects.
This wonderful partnership was reaffirmed and strengthened with an invitation from the Damenclub to the Seedeich.
Our donation supported the well-known “Duck Race” during the Buttfest, which was successfully held again in summer 2023.
We also participated in the sponsor run with our donation.
Unfortunately, our beautiful duck did not win, but as they say: “It’s the taking part that counts”, and maybe we will have better luck this year!
We will definitely keep you updated.
The entire proceeds from this event, including our donation, will go towards social projects in Cuxhaven and the surrounding area.
