welcome to aarhus Mayor of Aarhus, Jacob Bundsgaard

It’s a great pleasure for me as mayor to welcome you all to DANISH +, which showcases some of the most exciting Danish drama for children, young people and theatre professionals from all over the world right here in Aarhus. Aarhus is a rapidly developing city full of creative innovators who enrich our city’s cultural life with a wealth of events and initiatives. They help shape and strengthen Aarhus. They create life, joy and smiles. And they make a positive, inspiring difference – just like DANISH+. DANISH + is about the dramatic arts, and art affects us in unique ways. Art awakens our senses. It makes us feel, reflect, interpret – and not least speak – together. Art makes room for a diversity of experiences and perspectives that bring us closer together through dialogue. What’s fantastic about art is that it speaks all languages, creating communities without borders. We can all

share our own unique experience of art. I think this is one of the reasons so many people come to this festival every year. To experience something extraordinary. To be inspired. To share this extraordinary inspiration with others. Because that’s what DANISH + is all about. In Aarhus, we think strengthening international collaboration is important, and so it’s a great honor to have so many guests from all over the world visiting our city. I hope you enjoy your stay here, and that you’ll have time to explore what Aarhus has to offer. Our history is long and interesting, stretching all the way back to the Vikings. And there’s something to do and see pretty much everywhere you go: DOKK1, Moesgaard Museum, ARoS, Den Gamle By, Tivoli Friheden, and the new Teatret Gruppe 38 theatre in Aarhus Ø. I hope you have a fantastic festival. Welcome to Aarhus! 5
