General information
: WELCOME TO Artistic Director at Teatret Gruppe 38, Bodil Alling
We have always known it: The joy and benefits of going to the theatre are significantly greater than buying an iPod or a flat screen. The encounter with high quality theatre lives longer in our memory than newly bought wonders. This encounter also fulfils us far up the hierarchy of needs. And when those needs are fulfilled, they give us the feeling of being alive. Scientists have now proved it. And I will happily draw the long bow: By seeing really good theatre you become happier, more broad-minded, more sociable, thoughtful and wiser – And of course more beautiful as well. At :DANISH+ we have an experience-guarantee: I’m convinced that no one will be left untouched by the performances that we have invited. We have moving, funny, reflective and strong theatre for all ages. So be joyous and leave with a happy recollection that will last you even longer than the awareness of having bought a new device. A heartfelt welcome to you all.
Bodil Alling, Artistic Director at Teatret Gruppe 38

: WELCOME TO denmark THE DANISH MINISTER OF CULTURE, UFFE ELBÆK
I’m very proud to introduce you to this edition of :DANISH+, the third in a row in my beloved Aarhus. Welcome to all the guests – and to all the theatre groups. We’ve come a long way in our effort to introduce Danish theatre for children and young adults to an international audience. At :DANISH+ you’ll meet a selection of shows that both bring out the best in Danish children’s theatre and is uniquely suited to foreign speakers. One reason that Danish theatre for children and young adults is so successful with international audiences is that it’s not so much about words and language as it is about gestures, emotions and closeness. Another reason is that the Danish theatre groups take their audience seriously and strive to give their audience a high quality artistic experience at eyelevel. The Danish tradition values realism over fantasy, honesty over value lessons and intimacy over spectacle. It offers a serious and highly artistic alternative to faster ways of entertainment – computer games and television – and it focuses on children’s everyday lives and on their sometimes strong feelings about what goes on around them. It’s not only entertainment – although it can certainly be very entertaining! Enjoy what we have to show you, and enjoy Aarhus in May!
Uffe Elbæk, The Danish Minister of Culture

: WELCOME TO aarhus MAYOR OF AARHUS, JACOB BUNDSGAARD
This year is the third time Aarhus host the showcase :DANISH+. As mayor of Aarhus I am pleased to welcome all foreign guests, the Danish culture communicators and of course the participating theatres to our city. :DANISH+ highlights some of the best children’s and youth theatre performances on offer. It’s a great joy that it has now been set up as a recurring event. We are proud that Aarhus once again is the venue for this inspiring experience. Aarhus is a city that is highly aware of the world outside of Aarhus – and outside of Denmark. Therefore it is our ambition to see Aarhus designated European Capital of Culture in 2017 and it is a priority for Aarhus to allocate significant resources to cultural initiatives. Aarhus strives for a diversified cultural life for both children and adults, presenting everybody with an opportunity to experience a wide range of culture and art. :DANISH+ is an important cultural event in Aarhus and it contributes to the strengthening of the city’s cultural offers. Hopefully you will find time during your stay to explore our city. Aarhus has a lot to offer and is surrounded by forest and sea while the city centre is full of old squares, paved streets and charming cafés and restaurant. I hope that you all will be taking some highly memorable experiences home with you. I wish all the participants at :DANISH+ some exciting shows.
Jacob Bundsgaard, Mayor of Aarhus

2012 is ready
Welcome! This is the third edition of the showcase :DANISH+ and we are once again proud to bid you welcome in Aarhus. It’s a big pleasure every second year to be able to invite representatives from theatres, presenters from houses and festivals from around the world to Aarhus. In the next couple of days we are excited to present the very best of Danish contemporary performing arts for children and young people. Teatret Gruppe 38 has handpicked the 16 performances that we are presenting this year and the selection has been based on one parameter: quality. The performances differ widely in genre, theme and expression, but common to all of them is their ability to pass on an unforgettable experience. This year’s edition is also, besides the performances, a great possibility to hear some exciting talks and to get inspiration for your work with the theatre. A distinctive, characteristic and common trademark is that a lot of the plays appeal to both children and adults and having this feature, the Danish performing arts for children and young people is able to reach a broader audience. About 70 representatives and presenters from 15 different countries take part in this years edition of :DANISH+. We are excited to get this thing rolling ... enjoy your stay! : WHY IS CULTURE ESSENTIAL IN 2012? :I NSPIRATION+ | Date: monday 7 th | Time: 10.10 | Venue: godsbanen Culture has become a somewhat isolated sphere of life that we are supposed to enjoy in our spare time and to enjoy as passive consumers of industrial entertainment. It is understood as an “add-on” to our productive lives in general instead of being – as it is – central to our social, emotional and cognitive development as human beings. Culture is the language that makes us human whether we express ourselves in words or pictures, music, dance or drama. Culture belongs at the centre of our education and daily lives. It gives us the mental make-up and the tools to handle everyday challenges and cope with the human condition as such. Our cultural dimension in general – and dramatic culture in particular – belongs right back at the centre of our lives and loves and losses. And we need to take the stage as active and involved creators rather than passive consumers as an appendix to the holy economic growth.
: ABOUT KNUD ROMER Knud Romer is educated in literature and cultural studies at the University of Copenhagen and has worked in advertising. He is the author of the best-selling novel ‘Den som blinker er bange for døden’ (Eng. ‘Nothing But Fear’, 2012). He is a regular on Danish television and radio and a spare time actor. His credits include ‘The Idiots’ by Lars von Trier.

: Future Lab – a digital fairy tale :I NSPIRATION+ | Date: monday 7 th | Time: 15.15 | Venue: godsbanen Future Laboratory is an entrance to a magical digital world, which only waits for the teachers and students to take the plunge and start playing. Our ambition is simply to make it easy and fun to use digital tools in teaching. The ability to juggle and to communicate with IT and digital media is crucial in the future – and the future is tomorrow. The strength in being able to communicate in the common digital language is important for the individuals place in the learning environment and society, and mastery of innovation and new technology is one of the most important foundations for future and growth. Why not deliver the next essay as a blog, upload physics experiment on YouTube or share links about Danish lyric by Pinterest?

: Future Lab and :DANISH+ Future Laboratory experiments in :DANISH+ with user participation and the involvements of new technology at eye level with the users themselves. We invite students in for product and process development in a theatrical context – and together with the students we discover if new technology and new angles broaden the theatre experience for children and adolescents. Come and learn about the process – and what experiences we have for you! Future Laboratory is developed by Innovation Lab in cooperation with Region of Central Denmark, Vestas & LEGO®.

: a serious play :I NSPIRATION+ | Date: tuesday 8 th | Time: 14 | Venue: teatret gruppe 38 An introduction to the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method by Jens Rottbøll, Associate Partner at Trivium. Jens Rotbøll is amongst the leading consultants working with releasing constructive and creative processes in business and culture management. As an originally skilled musician, Jens and the company TRIVIUM has brought the processes of using the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method into the top of internationally renowned business and cultural companies. The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method was developed at LEGO® in collaboration with leading researchers in strategy and organizational behaviour, merging the best from two worlds: 1) How humans play, learn and develop and 2) How organizations develop and implement Strategies and how true leadership can impact on this. One of the most important research findings that underpin the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method and approach is that hands-on, minds-on learning produces a deeper, more meaningful understanding of the world and its possibilities. This school of thought is to a large degree developed by Seymore Papert of MIT, another important researcher in constructionism is Idit Harel. Other important contributors to the play, learning and development domain are Czikszentmihalyi and Vygotsky. Johan Roos and Bart Victor developed the initial strategy and organizational research. Recently the dance-company Aaben Dance from Roskilde has successfully used LSP in cooperation with Jens Rotbøll (see: www.trivium.dk). : About the performance A physical and visual dance performance about meeting other people and putting up walls. Sometimes fences are necessary, but they do not benefit the neighbourhood. When you put up a wall, the other part becomes invisible, and that is a bigger threat than being able to see them. David Newman, Professor in Political Geography, Ben-Gurion University. Boundaries are drawn, moved and crossed. In a universe of brown moving boxes, three men are constantly occupied with building, converting, demolishing and moving walls. An echo from our world filled with invisible walls between humans and visible walls of steel and concrete that separate people and nations. A tribute to the millions of men, women and children who are locked in and hidden behind their dreams of a better life – and a tribute to those of us who have the freedom not to lock ourselves in behind walls of fear ...
: About the company The body is the thing we all have in common. It is our home as long as we are alive on this planet. With this body I tell the story of being a human. Choreographer Thomas Eisenhardt Aaben Dans is a company that is able to change style and expression from performance to performance. However, the non-abstract humanity performed with the body as the core and an attempt to communicate directly with the audience, is one of our trademarks. We work closely together with the styles – music, visual art, and architecture, and we are not afraid of taking chances and being radical in exploring the possibilities within dance in new contexts. We create stage art by setting our own conditions and at the same time the audience is affected and provoked. We want to challenge boundaries and simultaneously we want to entertain with a mix of humour, insanity, seriousness and aesthetics. We want to make popular avantgarde.
Humanism jumps out of the cardboard boxes when Aaben Dans creates a sensuously rich dance performance on fear of the strange in ‘I know where your house is living’.
* * * * * Børneteateravisen Thomas Eisenhardt and Catherine Poher create a new kind of political dance that is neither manifest nor tale. A dance that in its abstract sense creates bodily images of humanism.

: About the performance A dance performance for the smallest children and their adults about the joy of life. Roll over Turn Jump Fly
- again - again - again - again
The joy of discovering your own body and master the movement. The joy of the music. The joy of a shift in the light. The joy of being together. Aaben Dans’ performance for the smallest children is based on exactly these feelings of revelation and pure joy.

: About the performance An intense and roaring rendering of the ancient tale. One actor and one double bass player on stage in Homer’s classic adventure of Odysseus’ action-packed quest. An interpretation that cuts to the core of the grand epic. One dark and stormy night Odysseus is washed ashore on the island of Ithaca, the wind howling and the water beating his face and body. Our hero, finally returning from the war against Troy, in rags, utterly starved and exhausted by his gruelling ten year long journey filled with dangers and temptations. But his hardships do not stop with his return – in his absence his castle has been taken over. His wife Penelope is now besieged by numerous suitors and his son Telemachos is threatened on his life ... The performance, based on Homer’s ‘Iliad’ and ‘Odyssey’, is one of Grønnegade Theatre’s most coveted performances where the pure and almost naked storytelling is delivered with dazzling, persuasive and engaging effort by actor Peter Holst and bass player Christian Glahn. A unique experience for children, youngsters and adults alike.
: About the Company After more than 20 years of touring as one of the most recognized Danish children’s theatre companies, Grønnegade Theatre was in 2008 appointed as the municipal theatre of the city of Næstved in Southern Denmark. The core of all the theatre’s performances is “the good story”. Combined with a deeper meaning we aim to satisfy, as well as challenge our audiences. Whether you are a child, young or adult, you will leave our performance holding a valuable treasure in your mind.
I am high on the expirence of ‘Odysseus’, a big reminder on how magic theatre for children can be. Børneteateravisen

: About the performance A gripping theatre documentary about drugs and identity. There’s a carnival in the city and so we take something ... I’m having a blast, dancing around and partying and dressed up in a red princess dress. I think this is just the best day of my life. Three days spent this way, where we just take speed and don’t eat or sleep. At one point I have to go to the toilet ... I walk into the bathroom and see myself in the mirror ... Dorthe Eggertsen presents a raw and honest account of her own story. A story about the internal and external pressures of the teenage years and a young girl’s search for herself in the midst of a group of friends and easy temptations. A story told through words, images and music; about being at one with heaven and earth, feeling like the most beautiful person in the world and experiencing your own death.
: About the company Realproduktion is a development and production company that works with theatre, music, studio production, teaching and external consultancy. We work to develop the art of storytelling on stage and focus on contemporary musical drama. We constantly experiment with new technological possibilities, on visual, communicative and interactive levels. The music and sound universe is predominantly electronic and our song style is simple and poetic. See more at www.realproduktion.dk. In 2010 we produced the play, ‘I’m alive’, supported by The Danish Art Council, which is touring in 2011/12. The play is a theatre documentary for young people about drugs and identity. In this production, we work with video set design and SMS-interaction, amongst other things.
Together, Dorthe’s songs and text and sound artist Rasmus’ electronic sound universe set the scene for the performance with video, livecam and SMS-interaction. Extract of a review of the show by two music students from Bernstorffsminde Efterskole after the performance at Korinth, October 2011. We were going to see a ‘one-man-show’ which was a theatre documentary about drugs and identity. We found it to be a really lively and exciting story. In the beginning you didn’t know much about her life, but as you got further into the story, you were really gripped by it and suddenly a lot of thoughts came to your mind about how it would have been. You felt as if you were part of the story yourself.

: About the performance Simplicity, presence and dialogue. A journey among Gods. Experience the mighty God of War in action, the Trickster God asking for good ideas and the Goddess of Love get enough. See a huge Stallion helping a gnome of a Master Builder. Hold on when Thor gets back and hear that Freja is going to be married. Don’t get scared when a Mare gives birth to a strange foal. It’s theatrical storytelling of the highest caliber when Jesper la Cour Andersen playing 11 roles with great presence brings us safely through the intrigues of the world of the Nordic Gods and gives us an extraordinary experience. It sounds simple but the simple is often the most difficult and therefore the most excellent. Flensborg Avis

It’s a touring theatre company performing for children, youth and adults. We have received several awards for our innovative work and unusual expression. Our special qualities are simplicity, presence and dialog. Through interaction and a sense of humour the stories are given a special touch that makes every performance unique. : About the performance Two middle-aged men meet up after many years of separation in order to go together to an old friend’s funeral. They disagree about which way to travel with the result that their small joint excursion evolves into a long and unpredictable odyssey across the stage. Once in a while they are traveling back in time to even come forward. Will they arrive in time? : About the performance Freely adapted from Selma Lagerlöf. A bedtime story from Teatret Gruppe 38 and Carte Blanche. Don’t go through the forest, robbers lie in wait and they will threaten your life. Nevertheless, the old monk and his young apprentice walk into the forest on an icy winter’s day ... for they have heard about a wonderful miracle that is almost too good not to be true. A pretty amazing experience, big, intense and touching.
: About the Companies Carte Blanche was established in 2000 by artistic director Sara Topsøe-Jensen. Sara is educated performer and stage artist from Nordic School of Stage Art in Aarhus, and she works with an expression that is physical, based on the body and the visual (objects, scenography, light) as story telling more than language. An abstract way of story telling where the understanding lies in the irrational and emotional. Carte Blanche works with a scenic language that gets the logic and understanding in the jumping and associated mentality that we know from dreams. Performances, where the audience’s desires of abstraction and playing are challenged and stimulated.
* * * * * Århus Stiftstidende ... the ceiling like the sky with the most wonderful projections from the most beautiful garden in the world. Peculiar and moving. Information ... a little sinister and dangerous, a little fun and cosy, a little mysterious and religious. Its very well made. Børneteateravisen
Carte Blanche’s performances are created from an understanding that all elements – scenography, props, actors, light, sound – are equal expressions. The performances are not based on action and telling a story from beginning to end, but on rhythm and shape, creating poetry, humour and curiosity. This is why Carte Blanche’s performances should rather be experienced than understood – like a piece of music or an abstract painting. In year 2000 Carte Blanche received the Horsens Municipality’s Children’s Theatre Award for showing new ways in Danish children’s theatre. About Teatret Gruppe 38 see page 33 or 35.

: About the performance Throw the cute children’s songs with the gruesome endings in the air and catch them in a new order. It provides a blend of thrill, horror and insights in life. And it tickles the imagination of all ages. It’s crazy ... The show is an invitation to use our imagination when Paul meets the harsh realities of life, side by side with all the dreams.

When not performing at our own charming stage in Denmark – we are touring all over the country or abroad. We present our performances all over the world – USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and most countries in Europe. Teatret Gruppe 38’s performances can all be performed in English, some in German and a one single in French.
Small, absurd, well, even crazy stories, made up from well-known children’s songs. The most visible about the performance was what we didn’t see. What I notice is the performance’s ability to prove without a shadow of doubt that we all have an imagination. Spetakel An alert presence flows through the performance thanks to Bodil Alling’s sparkling direction. Århus Stiftstidende
It’s Teatret Gruppe 38’s purpose to create performances, which challenge their audience whether they are children or adults. We try to find complexity and sophistication in simplicity, and thus create unpredictable experiences with a few and simple means. The basis of an idea is often an ultra short tale or narrative, where life itself is at stake – in spite of the fact, that our audience are mostly children – or perhaps exactly for that reason. We do not insert extenuating circumstances to spare the children. A story can be as cruel, as highly dangerous and infinitely sad as it lays claim to, in order to convey the strongest emotional experience. After all, reality is highly dangerous!

: About the performance – a splatter comedy! On an Italian pick up truck a live chicken and a newly laid egg play the main part in a gripping version of an old story. A grim story of a child, who is burdened with too much responsibility: You must walk alone through the forest, which is huge, wild and creepy ... and on the other side is grandmother’s house, where grandmother lies in her bed, very ill and that is creepy too. Bon voyage! In 2001 ‘A Sonatina’ was nominated for the theatre award – Reumert of the Year – in the category Best Performance for Children. And it has been shown in Canada, Finland, Japan and Scotland among many other countries. ‘A Sonatina’ stands out for sheer wackiness and enthusiasm, which both adults and children can appreciate. : About the performance A string of short poetic sketches illustrates moments in a little person’s world. Mommy and Daddy. Grandma and Grandpa. A snail and a tree by the side of the road. Kindergarten filled with little friends. A bicycle, a small bed and a night time story. An umbrella and the hope for rain. It is the story of a little person in a big world, woven in a universe abundant with memories and the joy of recognition. Held in the beauty of these moments, a cosy and safe feeling envelops us, as the poetic story takes shape through music, lighting, sound, puppets and objects. Theatre My’s calm and poetic style is the source for this theatre experience dedicated to little people. Little people on their journey into the world. Nominated for the Danish Reumert Award for Best Performance for Young Audiences 2012. Not just storytelling, not just theatre, not just magic –
: About the company Teater My was established in 2001 at the initiative of the theatre’s artistic director Mette Rosleff. After years of working with performances for young children, she felt strongly about forming her own theatre, with the intent of specializing in plays for the very smallest of the kind. The theatre aims to create a safe space and an intimate universe in which sacred moments and the feeling of wonder can be shared with the little ones. The performances move in a gentle rhythm and use a poetic and pictorial theatrical style, all with the intention of giving the youngsters a preciously vivid and intimate feeling for the magic of the theatre. In the past years, Teater My has successfully toured abroad as well as in its home country of Denmark. Teater My is financially supported by the Danish Arts Agency Committee for Performing Arts and Aarhus Municipality.

: About the performance Mama had said: Clara, you are going to write a diary. Clara had answered: Why must I keep a diary? They are going to kill us anyway. Mama answered: Clara, it is important. You must be our witness. If they kill us, somebody will find the diary ... ‘Clara’s War’ is a story about a young girl’s exceptional struggle to survive. It is also the story of a rescuer, Volksdeutscher Valentin Beck, who surprises, but is also surprised by reality. A rescuer, who against all odds is capable of going against the tide and do the right thing.
: About the Company Since 1974, Teatret Møllen (The Mill Theatre) has been the regional theatre of Haderslev and the county of South Jutland. We perform theatre at schools and cultural institutions all over Denmark and our work is much sought after at international theatre festivals. Our performances are known for their characteristic visual aesthetic and illusory atmosphere, with catchy music, subtle composition, and an unusual narrative style.
A powerful, entertaining, surprising and thought-provoking real-life story. The Russians would have sent Beck to Siberia if it hadn’t been for the diary. Clara’s diary became a testimony to Beck’s achievements ... During the Second World War, Clara, her younger sister, Mania, and their parents had to hide from the Nazis’ persecution of the Jews. Teatret Møllen (The Mill Theatre) tells the true story about Clara and her family. Clara wrote a diary during the two years she, her parents and two other families lived in a small dug out crawl space under the floorboards in Valentin Beck’s house. The book, ‘Clara’s War’, was published in 2008 is based on the diary. Nominated for the Danish Reumert Award for Best Performance for Young Audiences 2012. : About the performance The performance is based on Hasse Alfredsons ‘An Evil Man’. Manufacturer and squire Johan Höglund is a hedonist and a power seeker, who tyrannizes everything and everybody in his surroundings: His wife, his children, his employees and whoever he meets on his way. His son Alvar, who struggles with the destiny as his father’s son, tells the strange story about ‘the idiot’, Sven, who lives and works at the manor. Their fate is interwoven. They are opponents, but they also develop solidarity under the suppression of Höglund. The manufacturer totally neglects the idiot, and when he finally leaves the manor and moves in with a farmer in the neighbourhood, the manufacturer does everything to make life a burden to the farmer and his family. Assisted by the angels from Alvar’s pictorial Bible the idiot takes things into his own hands ...

: About the Company Teater Patrasket is a travelling theatre. We tour all over Denmark and a great deal abroad. Our performances are in Danish, English – or entirely without words. Teater Patrasket has existed since 1985 as a theatre driven by its actors. Patrasket consists of three players who also represent the theatre’s artistic leadership: Thomas Danielsen, Maria Myrgård and Dirck Backer. We all share a background in the work of physical theatre and mime following Jacques le Coq’s principles at the Comedia School in Copenhagen 1983-86. We make theatre for children, but first and foremost for human beings. The children are our primary audience and for us a pledge – or even alibi – to create theatre that is simple in its form and universally human in its content. A theatre that may also be enjoyed by adults. The starting points for our performances are many: a theme that affects us, a significant story – or a particular form or genre, we wish to investigate ... But certain features are always present: Playfulness is a central element – and expressed in the way we relate to fellow players, the audience, props etc. Thus, our performances also relate to children’s own play. We seek a physical and visual expression. And we strongly believe in the relieving and humanizing effects of humour. Comedy as a surplus that gives us strength and distance to overcome the different adversities of life.

: About the performance The legends of the life and deeds of Francis of Assisi come alive through storytelling and animation. Francis says goodbye to wealth and luxury to live a simple life in close contact with nature. Gently, and with the full effect of the enchantment and magic of animation theatre, the audience is guided into a touching and serene universe. In ‘Brother Sun, Sister Moon’ you find space to let yourself be absorbed and to enjoy the tranquillity and the beautiful images.
: About the company Teater Refleksion is a puppet and animation theatre. It strives to make each setting an aesthetically composed whole, with a wealth of surprises and exquisite detail. The performances communicate visually and the language is simple – in some cases without words entirely. Music is often an important narrative element in the performances. They are enacted in an intimate, delicate and intense atmosphere with only a few actors/puppeteers on stage before a limited audience, ensuring an experience of real presence for each individual child and audience.
Teater Refleksion is very brave [to tell the stories of Francis of Assisi] and they get away with it. For 45 untrendy minutes the theatre space breathes concentrated magic and intense attentiveness. Århus Stiftstidende
To Teater Refleksion, the puppet is a medium reflecting and mirroring existential thoughts and questions about the bigger issues in life; the things that are not easily described with words.

: About the performance ‘Wayward’ is a comical, awkward freak show about the ill adjusted. Three people are exiled. They are unruly and peculiar. They fight, they humiliate each other, they trip each other up, they laugh out loud, they sing and play furiously. In the Great Belt, a powerful stream of waters is a little island called Sprogø. From 1923-61 the Danish society put the unbidden women here for re-education indefinitely imprisoned. It could be an unmarried mother, prostitutes, lunatics, mentally handicapped, gipsies, criminals and victims of a rape.
: About the Company The Vanart Theatre is Marie Netterstrøm, Janne Koefoed and Pia Hessner. We have worked together in various projects for the last thirty years. In ‘Wayward’ we depict the absurd and inhuman conditions of life for a number of exiled women. Our mode of expression ranges from popular to artistic, from subtle to grotesquely camp. We try to express the inexpressible by means of comedy and tragedy.
Today we don’t have islands for forced placement, but nevertheless we see isolated “islands” in our society. In 2012 we call them ghettoes, institutions, hospitals, care homes ... We have been inspired by the story of Sprogø and all of the other “islands”. We have studied what it means to be different, to be excluded. Is there anything normal left? The performance ‘Wayward’ illustrates what it is like to be outside the community. ‘Wayward’ is a Danish Arts Council prize winning production. The common denominator is The Unexpected. You can never be safe in the company of this performance, these women, nothing is predictable. And that is wonderful: to be surprised constantly – all the way to the finale, where they lay their heads on their respective stools – as if ready for the guillotine. Børneteateravisen This is a performance, where you have to surrender to the moving and hilarious absurdities. Traditional measures fall short. Normality and convention is twisted and an indescribable universe is illustrated in a surprising, original and universal manner. Herning Folkeblad

: About the performance An existential account of the pre-teens. Soon you’ll be big. You can manage most things on your own, and you are in control. School, friends, family, that’s all OK ... and then suddenly you’re standing on the edge of a precipice that wasn’t there a short while ago ... it’s frightening ... it’s exciting ... In a number of short, simple scenes, four actors depict the moment in the lives of young people when they suddenly have a sense of being outside, alone and different. ‘Suddenly’ is a pre-teen account of your raison d’être based on interviews and research, and is presented with humour and seriousness at eye level with its audience. I sit with a wonderful recognition, with a lump in my throat and moist eyes, with liberating laughter and sudden enlightenment. And I am far from alone – around me sits a young audience with sheepish giggles, with selfironic laughter, and who understand the seriousness and
: About the company Theatre is a constantly developing art form. It changes in relation to which stories we choose to tell, how we tell them and who we tell them to. But no matter what, theatre is always a living and unpredictable meeting between a story and an audience; a dialogue in the present, a momentary shared experience. This is both its huge vulnerability, but at the same time its endless strength, that which makes theatre so unique. This is particularly valid for theatre for children and young people. ZeBU is a creative abbreviation for ‘Scenekunst for børn og unge’ – Scenic art for children and young people. The word ‘scenekunst’ or scenic art indicates that our audience can expect everything from plays to dancing, from mime to musical shows, from puppet theatre to circus performances. The idea is that children and young people should think that it is fun, cool and exciting to go to the theatre. And for them to feel the experience is worthwhile.
the silence. Only theatre can do this – no film, no TV, not even a book. This is the kind of performance that makes a spectator grateful. Børneteateravisen
