Coles Pallet Label Requirements • As per GS1 Standards, Coles use SSCC’s (Serial Shipping Container Code) for Pallet identification

Compliant Receiving Process • DC’s receive compliant deliveries by scanning the SSCC label on every pallet – This unlocks the ASN (Advance Shipment Notice) data transmitted by the supplier

• SSCC application to the correct pallet is essential to network efficiency & integrity – SSCC label mismatches can result in incorrect inventory entering our network


Most Common Pallet Labelling Issues Issue

1 Pallet contains 2 different SSCC labels (e.g. front and rear labels don’t match)

Stock may be rejected, otherwise DC have to relabel the pallet(s) resulting in increased receiving time.

Pallet labels are transposed (e.g. Pallet ‘A’ is labelled as Pallet ‘B’)

Stock may be rejected, otherwise increased receiving time in locating correct pallet(s) and then relabelling them.

Pallet contains stock relating to more than one Use By Date / Batch No

Stock may be rejected, otherwise increased receiving time in having to down stack and restack pallet(s).

Incorrect label positioning on pallet (e.g. > 50 mm from right hand edge, or labels are placed on non fork entry point)

Stock may be rejected, otherwise increased receiving time (to locate a label on a non fork entry point). Increased OH&S issues for fork drivers if unable to scan label whilst on the forklift.

Pallet labels are not placed on the outside of the shrink wrap

Stock may be rejected, otherwise increased receiving time (to remove shrink wrap prior to scanning and then re wrapping pallet for putaway) Increased OH&S issues for fork drivers if unable to scan label whilst on the forklift.

Pallet labels fail to scan
