A CAMP FOR EVERY GIRL

Welcome to the Girl Scout–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council camp family. Girl Scout camp is a place where girls can create an experience all their own. They can sleep in a tent, make new friends, re-connect with old friends, paddle in a canoe or ride a zipline. At camp, girls step outside their comfort zone, take risks and grow as leaders. All of our camp program and session are designed to fulfill the Girl Scout Leadership Experience outcomes while allowing girls to try new and exciting activities. Our Girl Scout camps are some of the most affordable options and a great value for girls and their families. Whether your camper is new or a seasoned veteran, there’s a program for her.

NOT A GIRL SCOUT?

Not a problem!

Just add $15 to your registration. Bring your friend, too. She’ll just need to add $15 to her registration.

Registration begins FEBRUARY 1 online or in person at the Council Customer Care Office – 3806 North 3rd Street, Phoenix, AZ 85012. Visit www.girlscoutsaz.org/camp for more information! You’ll find tips for first time campers, answers to frequently asked questions, and what counselors wish parents knew about camp! Take a peek at the camp experience by watching fun videos at youtube.com/gsacpc. Happy Camping!

GIRL SCOUT CAMP

gSACPC summer camp guide

Girl Scout camp provides creative and educational outdoor experiences within a group-living setting for girls. Our camps use the Girl Scout program, with trained leadership, and the resources of the natural surroundings to contribute to each camper’s mental, physical, social and spiritual growth.

BADGES AND PATCHES While badge work isn’t the focus of our camping programs, every girl attending camp will receive an award at the end of her session. Our primary focus is to facilitate experiences that create the conditions for girls to learn more about themselves (Discover), one another (Connect) and make choices that help her community thrive (Take Action).

REGISTRATION

»» Begins February 1, 2017 »» Registration is FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE for individual campers and Family and Troop Camp. »» Returning individual campers will receive Early Bird registration information by email.

Register online at www.girlscoutsaz.org/camp! Phone registrations are not accepted. If you don’t have computer access, online registration terminals will be available at the Council Customer Care Office – 3806 North 3rd Street, Phoenix, AZ 85012. We're here to help

– if you need assistance registering, contact the Registration Help Desk at 602.452.7030 or reghelp@ girlscoutsaz.org for assistance (Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm)

BUDDIES @ CAMP

02

A camper may request ONE “buddy” when registering for camp. Both campers must register for the same program or session at the same camp. Make sure you and your child’s buddy and her parents are planning this together. Bunk buddy placement is not guaranteed. Groups, troops and multiple buddy requests cannot be accommodated for non-troop sessions.

PRICING Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council has adopted a three-tiered fee schedule for summer resident and day camp. This gives you the opportunity to take an active role in supporting the true cost of a summer camp experience. This fee structure allows you to choose the pricing tier that is most appropriate for your family. TIER I

Our partially-subsidized fee which is in between the fully subsidized rate and the true cost of camp.

TIER III

The fee which more closely reflects the true costs of camp, including food, supplies, insurance, facilities upkeep and summer staff salaries.

All campers who come to our Girl Scout camps will receive the same high-quality, fun programming you’ve come to expect regardless of your tier selection, which is confidential.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE & CAMPERSHIPS GSACPC makes every effort to provide financial assistance so no girl misses out on attending camp due to lack of funds. If you believe attending camp would be a financial hardship, please apply for a campership at www.girlscoutsaz.org/paying-for-camp. A non-refundable deposit of 10% of the price must be included with registration. Earn credit for camp! Program Credits earned by selling Girl Scout cookies and/or Fall Product can be used to pay for any or all of your summer camp balance. For more details, see the Fall Product or Girl Scout Cookie Program information.

gSACPC summer camp guide

Our historically subsidized rate which doesn’t reflect the true cost of operating summer camp programs.

TIER II

SIBLING DISCOUNT Families that register TWO or MORE campers from their household for any resident camp session will receive a discount of $15 per additional camper, with a limit of one discount per additional camper.

RESIDENT CAMP TRANSPORTATION

»» Campers may be driven to camp or »» Register for bus transportation from and to the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Bus transportation is $35 for one-way or $60 round-trip for our camps in Prescott and Payson. The bus gives girls an opportunity to meet other girls before they arrive at camp. It also reduces the wear and tear on the camp’s natural environment. Buses are equipped with air conditioning, bathrooms and are supervised by bus chaperones. Bus pick-up locations can be found at www.girlscoutsaz.org/camp-bus.

gSACPC summer camp guide

Your camper can ride the bus for free! How? All you have to do is be a bus chaperone! Call 602-452-7138 or email campbus@girlscoutsaz.org.

PARSONS LEADERSHIP CENTER TRANSPORTATION »» Parents may drive their campers or »» Register for bus transportation from one of three valley locations.

The bus fee is $80 per week round-trip and is non-refundable. (One way is not available.) Transportation is available for Day Camp ONLY. Bus pick-up times and locations can be found at girlscoutsaz.org/camp-bus. We must have a minimum of 20 campers per bus. If minimums are not met, the bus MAY be cancelled. Campers attending aftercare are not eligible for bus transportation.

HEALTH AND SAFETY Our camps meet stringent county, state and national standards. The main gate is locked nightly at each camp, and local law enforcement agencies are notified of our camp sessions. A health supervisor is on duty at all times during the camp sessions to supervise the health and safety of campers and dispense all medications.

FACILITIES @ CAMP Sleeping facilities at camp are primarily cabins. Depending on the camp and session attending, it can also include dormitory-style living, platform or traditional tents. Counselors do not share sleeping facilities with campers, but live in close proximity to them. All units are equipped with running water, shower houses and toilets that may be separate from cabins, but in close proximity.

06

OUR COUNSELORS Most of our camp counselors are college students who are studying education, recreation, sociology, and psychology and want the experience of working with children in an outdoor setting. All staff complete a lengthy application process which includes a written application, employment history, reference checks, verification of skills and certifications, a personal interview, and a background check. Camp counselors participate in a 10-day staff training – covering topics like camper behavior and support, creating safe space, outdoor activities, roles of the counselor, group dynamics, emergency procedures, and much more!

SPECIAL NEEDS Please contact the Camp Director for campers who require special diets (including food allergies), special health care or have mobility limitations. At that time, you will be able to discuss the nature of your camper’s needs and gather more information to determine if the proper support, supervision and necessary accommodations can be provided for your camper for a safe, fulfilling camp experience. We are dedicated to serving all girls in our Council and accommodations can be made in many cases. To be successful at camp, your camper needs to be independent with self-care (showering, dressing, using the restroom) and be comfortable in an 8:1 camper to staff ratio.

HEALTH SUPERVISORS

gSACPC summer camp guide

Campers will not have access to phones to receive or make calls while at camp. If there is a problem or if your camper is not doing well, a staff member will contact you. We invite you to contact the Camp Director at any time during your camper’s session if you have any concerns or questions. Cell phones brought to camp will be secured in the camp office until the camper is ready to leave for home. GSACPC is not responsible for lost, stolen, broken, or damaged property.

We are looking for several individuals to commit to a minimum of one week in these very important positions at camp. Eligible candidates must be a registered nurse, EMT or paramedic (licensed in Arizona) who would live and work at camp Sunday morning through Friday night. Camp-age campers of the health supervisor can attend our sessions at a reduced fee. For more information, please contact a camp director.
