TRAVEL TROOP & GIRL
Girl Scouts is PROVEN to help girls thrive in five key ways as they: • Develop a strong sense of self • Display positive values • Seek challenges and learn from setbacks (resilience!) • Form and maintain healthy relationships • Identify and solve problems in the community 4
EXCITING & NEW @ BADGERLAND EMPOWERING GIRL SCOUT COMMUNITIES TO DELIVER PROGRAMS TO GIRLS. You asked us to make it easier to be a Girl Scout family and volunteer. You asked for simplified program choices. You wanted ‘at-a-glance’ badge ideas. You asked for easy-to-access support, supplies and information. And an easier way to plan your Girl Scout yearly calendar. We heard you loud and clear. And we’ve got you covered!
Community-Delivered Program Support Our vision is that by next year Girl Scout communities (individual cities or regions) will deliver programs for girls during the Girl Scouting year. Let’s say your Girl Scouts are gaga for STEM; your community could host a STEM Day for the troops in that area. And we, at Badgerland, will provide the partnership resources to make that happen for you - in other words, we’re going to help bring rock-star quality programming right to your community! Sound good? This is a year of transition as we roll out the first (OF MANY) changes. In the meantime, if you want to get started now and host an event or a program for Girl Scouts in your community, reach out to us and we’ll get you started: info@gsbadgerland.org.
Monthly Programs and Badge Ideas Each month is assigned a Girl Scout program theme. For example, October is the “Outdoors” and Badgerland will host an outdoor event for Girl Scouts to attend. At the same time, we’re encouraging TROOPS and Girl Scouting COMMUNITIES to come up with their own outdoor program for the month using Girl Scouts’ outdoor-based curriculum. It’s troop or community choice. Attend the Badgerland program or build your own. Of course, all troops and communities do not have to follow our program-themed calendar...it is meant as a guide to help leaders.
We’re shaking it up for 2020 and providing you the resources and knowledge to build programs your girls are clamoring for! More to come! gsbadgerland.org

GIRL SCOUT
BASICS Patches, Badges and Journeys...
Oh My! Girl Scout badges and patches—believe it or not, there is a difference between the two. And if you’re not clear on what a GS Journey is...well we can help with that, too. Patches, Badges and Journeys: What’s the difference? Patches are self-discovery building Patches are given to Girl Scouts for participating in different events, activities or other patch-specific programs. At Badgerland, for example, Girl Scouts can earn the BossGIRL patch by completing a specific number of activities aimed at helping her discover her entrepreneurial skills, or complete a service project at one of our Badgerland camps and earn one too! Badges are skill building Badges are awards girls earn by completing skill building activities. Within each Journey there are ageappropriate badges for girls to earn. The activity topics are developed more for introducing girls to new experiences and developing specific skills. Badge skills build on each other as girls grow in Girl Scouting. The badges at each level help a girl develop competence and confidence in each skill area that she will build upon at the next Girl Scout level when she earns the next badge in a category. Journeys are leadership building A Girl Scout Journey is just that - it’s a longer path of discovery and learning with a topic that culminates in a Take Action project to make the world a better place. Journeys are created specifically for leadership development. Journeys, like the badges earned within them, are developed for each girl’s age level. So, for example, a Daisy Journey will have different activities than a Brownie Journey because of the age difference. Girl Scout programs are progressive...skills are layered; as she becomes more proficient she can take on greater challenges. UNIFORM GUIDE Place badges on the front of vests or sashes patches on the back. 6
