A choice camp for budding builders. If your girl likes to pull the tires off her toy cars just to put them back on, or spends time testing the fastest roller coaster designs, then send her to this camp. At Tinker Studio, girls will engage in hands-on projects where they’ll figure out how to make things go higher and faster – everything from cars, boats, cranes and planes. Some projects will be designed for her to complete on her own, and plenty will be collaborative with her sister Girl Scouts.

Unicorns are REAL! At least they are this weekend at Camp Brandenburg. Girls will need to be sneaky, stealthy and silent as they track and discover unicorn resting places in nature. During a magical hike, girls will learn to talk to animals (bird calls are awesome!) just like a fairytale princess. Campers will build their own castle after getting a close-up look at animal habitats. During her enchanted night away from home, your girl will also learn about campfire safety and maybe even a magical song.

During the evening at camp, you and your Girl Scout will enjoy dinner and a fun parent/girl activity. Then head home and leave her in the hands of our experienced and awesome camp staff. Pick her up the next day and she’ll tell you all about her adventures on the ride home.

She can choose Badgerland Bucks as her rewards. These virtual dollars can be used to pay for all or a portion of camp, all on her own, which instills independence and pride.

2020BADGERLANDBUCK S

HOW IT WORKS Badgerland Bucks earned during the 2020 Cookie Program will be mailed mid-April. Since Badgerland Bucks cannot be redeemed online, simply call, email or stop in to let us know which camp you’d like to apply her Bucks to! Or, if you paid for camp in full online, submit a Badgerland Bucks reimbursement request using the form on our website: www.gsbadgerland.org. VETERAN ADVICE: Since Badgerland Bucks aren’t available until mid-April, we strongly suggest signing up for camp and paying the deposit ASAP. Badgerland Bucks can be applied to the balance once she receives her card. You can also call one of our amazing Customer Care Specialists for assistance: 800.236.2710.

Camp Business Details Cost of Camp Most overnight resident camps are $75 per night. That means a 3-night camp is $225 and a 5-night camp is $375. However, please know that the actual cost of camp is much greater than the fee you pay...and the value of camp is as well. We firmly believe these overnight programs are important to the Girl Scout experience, which is why Badgerland Council subsidizes the cost of camp. If you are able, please consider adding a camp donation to help offset the full cost of resident camp. You can do so during the online registration process.

Financial Assistance: Camperships We want all girls to have the opportunity to attend Girl Scout camp. Families meeting requirements for the National School Lunch Program are eligible to apply for a campership. All girls, however, should make a good-faith effort to earn part of their way to camp through the Girl Scout Cookie Program and Badgerland Fall Fundraiser. Campership applications can be found on our website: www.gsbadgerland.org.

Refunds and Cancellations Refunds will be issued in the event of illness or critical family emergency if Badgerland is notified prior to the start of the session. In case of illness, a written refund request (including a statement from the attending physician) must be submitted within one week. Cancellations received in writing at least three weeks before the start of the session are eligible for a refund, less the deposit. Full fees, including deposit, will be refunded in the unlikely event the program must be canceled. Please note: Campers who leave early due to homesickness, parental request or Code of Conduct violations are not eligible for refunds.

A health care professional is always available at resident camp administering prescription medications and overseeing routine health care needs. Additionally, a doctor is always on-call. Parents are notified in the event of an emergency.

What if my girl has special needs?

Provide her special needs in your CampDoc profile. This includes food allergies, healthcare or mobility limitations, or special needs. Badgerland will seek to accommodate special needs whenever possible, though reserves the right to identify reasonable accommodations given the logistics of camp.

What will she eat at camp?

Meals are kid-friendly and healthy. A set menu is prepared for each meal, offering balanced choices with a vegetarian option. Most meals are served family-style. Typical meals include chicken fingers, tacos and sloppy joes with plenty of veggies, too! At Camp Ehawee, meals are served in Hope Lodge and at Brandenburg they are at Hilltop Lodge. Note any food allergies when filling out her CampDoc profile.

What if she gets homesick?

It is common for a camper to miss her family especially at the beginning of camp. We discourage adults telling their girl they can call home if they get homesick, as this often makes it more difficult for her. Talk to your girl about homesickness before she comes to camp. Assure her it is normal. Sometimes a stuffed animal or a memento from home is all it takes. Our camp staff is trained to manage homesick campers. However if it becomes excessive, a member of our camp staff will contact you to discuss the situation.

Can I call camp to check on my camper?

Sure! If you’re anxious about how she’s doing, pick up the phone and call us (numbers are in your camp info packet that we email you; also found online). Be assured that no news is good news - we will reach to you in the event we need to provide extra support to your camper. 36 gsbadgerland.org

What if my camper misbehaves?

A primary goal of camp is to help girls create healthy relationships — learning tolerance and respect. Some behaviors are covered by a zero-tolerance policy including bullying, physical altercations and property damage (as described in the Code of Conduct found in CampDoc). Girls involved with an act that is damaging to herself or another camper will be sent home.

Can she be in the same unit as her friend or sister? You may request up to three buddies and we place them together in the same cabin. Buddy requests are made in CampDoc. However, many girls attend camp without knowing anyone and make new friends while there.

Can my girl’s BFF go to camp if she’s not a Girl Scout?

Yes! All girls in grades K-12 are welcome. Girls who are not already Girl Scouts will simply pay the $35 membership fee during camp registration. It’s easiest for non-Girl Scouts to call us and we’ll help get them signed up on the phone: 800.236.2710.

Can I visit the camp before she comes?

Absolutely! We heartily encourage you and your girl to come to an open house (details on page 8) to tour camp and see it first-hand. Please note: when camp is in session, only campers and staff are on-site. If you want to bring your camper to Camp Ehawee instead of sending her on the Badgerland Bus, you are welcome to tour the camp at drop-off and see her sleeping area and the rest of the facility.

What kind of luggage should we pack?

Campers taking the bus to/from Ehawee should limit their luggage to one carry-on sized bag, a sleeping bag and pillow, and a daypack. Space fills quickly on the bus and we want to make sure there is plenty of room for everyone.

What about bringing her phone or other technology?

Happily, camp is a screen-free zone so girls can unplug and connect with nature and friends. Do not send cell phones, tablets or other electronics. All these devices will be safely secured in the camp office until the end of her session.

How can I stay in touch with her?

Campers LOVE to get mail from you at camp! You can email her daily (CampEhawee@gsbadgerland.org) or mail letters directly to camp in advance of her time there. You may also bring your letters when you drop her off for camp and staff will distribute them to her throughout the week. PHOTOS You may see photos of your camper during her time at camp. The camp staff take photos and post them during the week on a secure site. You will be emailed the login to the photo site before the start of her camp session.

GREAT TROOP PROJECT! Property patches are a Girl Scout tradition. They’re aimed at getting girls outside and learning environmental respect. Patches are available for Camp Ehawee and Camp Brandenburg. Sounds awesome, right? Details at gsbagerland.org. HOW IT WORKS To earn each individual patch, girls accomplish 5 specified tasks at the property. These can be accomplished in one visit to the camp or over the course of several trips. 1. Hike – Get to know the property by walking around. You will be provided with a list of “must see” locations. 2. Environmental Science – Get to know the natural world around you through simple nature games and activities. 3. Outdoor Skill – Learn a new outdoor skill like orienteering or outdoor cooking. 4. Environmental Service – The best way to get to know our properties is to get involved and help with make the properties better. 5. Special – Each property has an activity curated just for them. This is usually a well-loved activity that you can do at that location!
