5 Important Skills Girls Learn Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program: Did you know the Girl Scout Cookie Program is the LARGEST girl-led business in the world? Along with gaining memorable experiences, running her own cookie business will help her explore and understand skills she’ll use for a lifetime.
Goal Setting Girls set cookie sales goals and, with their team, create a plan to reach them. This matters because girls need to know how to set and reach goals to succeed in school, on the job, and in life.
2 FAMILY COOKIE GUIDE
Money Decision Making Management Business Ethics People Skills Girls decide where and when to sell cookies, how to market their sale, and what to do with their earnings. This matters because girls must make many decisions, big and small, in their lives. Learning this skill helps them make good ones.
Girls develop a budget, take cookie orders, and handle customers’ money. This matters because girls need to know how to handle money—from their lunch money to their allowance to (someday) their paycheck.
Girls act honestly and responsibly during every step of the cookie sale. This matters because employers want to hire ethical employees—and the world needs ethical leaders in every field.
Girls learn how to talk (and listen!) to their customers, as well as learning how to work as a team with other girls. This matters because it helps them do better in school (on group projects, on sports teams, and on the playground) and, later, at work.
Welcome to the 2022 Girl Scout Cookie Program When your girl sells Girl Scout Cookies, she’s doing way more than helping her customers stock up on delicious treats - she’s earning new and amazing experiences for herself and her troop! Whether that’s taking a trip to an unforgettable place, coding her own computer program or attending Girl Scout Camp...selling cookies can help get her there!
This year's Cookie Mascot is the Koala encouraging girls to Climb With Courage toward their goals...big and small! Check out the Koala-ty rewards on page 7.
There are lots of ways to participate in the Cookie Program...both in person and online.

Attend Your Troop Cookie Family Meeting In addition to the Badgerland-led family meetings listed to the right, we recommend attending a Cookie Meeting with your troop to discuss your plans for the Cookie Program. You'll decide what type(s) of selling methods your family is comfortable with, as well as set troop and individual sales goals, choose a Cookie Share partner, and learn about money collection processes and deadlines. At this meeting you'll also turn in your parent permission form and submit her reward(s) choices. Troop leaders must submit their initial cookie order by February 7, so you'll want to hold your meeting before then.
Not in a troop? You can still sell cookies! If you don't yet have a troop, are part of a virtual troop, or participate in Girl Scouts individually as a Juliette, you can still build your cookie business. All this means is that your parent or adult would act as the Troop Cookie Coordinator. Scan this QR code or visit our website to fill out the Juliette Participation form to let us know you’re selling and we’ll send you everything you need in the mail.

Cookie Share Girls who participate
Participating in Cookie Share is a in Cookie Share earn this patch! great way for girls to experience the power of giving back to their community while boosting their sales. Plus, it gives cookie customers who cannot or choose not to eat Cookies the chance to still support Girl Scouts. HOW IT WORKS: Before the cookie sale begins, the troop agrees on a local nonprofit organization they want to give cookies to. A customer purchases these cookies, but instead of receiving them, the girl/troop sets them aside and donates them to their organization after the sale. Customers can donate to a girl's Cookie Share while ordering online, too. Cookie Share cookies ordered online benefit the council's Cookie Share program and cookies needed to fill those orders will come out of the Council's supply - not your troop/family's. Cookie Share cookies are included in the girl's total and will count toward her rewards.
Cookies on Social Media Policy • Families (and Girl Scouts over age 13 with parent permission) can advertise their sale on their personal social media sites, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. • Girl Scout Cookies may not be advertised or sold on online auction or sales websites including eBay, Craigslist, community buy/ sell/trade sites and Facebook Marketplace. • A good rule of thumb: only people who know the girl or her family personally should see her cookie sale information.
Troop Proceeds All troops earn at least 63¢ per box on cookies sales. The higher the troop's per-girl-selling average, the more the troop earns.
How The Cookie Crumbles Each box of cookies is $4 (except Gluten-free Caramel Chocolate Chip, which sell for $5 per pouch). Cookie prices may not be discounted or increased. Troop Proceeds* $0.63-0.75 Cookie Program Costs $1.30
Girl Scout & Volunteer Services $1.95-$2.07
After paying the baker for the cookies, 100% of the money that your Girl Scout raises through the Girl Scout Cookie Program stays within Badgerland. *The cost breakdown is a bit different for Girl Scouts not in a troop and selling as Juliettes. See Juliette-specific info for details.

FAMILY COOKIE GUIDE
How to Calculate Your Per-Girl-Selling Average: Divide the number of boxes your troop sells (or hopes to sell) by the number of girls in the troop who are participating in the Cookie Program this year (even if they only sell a few boxes). Per-Girl-Selling Troop Proceeds Average 1-203 Boxes
63¢ per box
204-299 Boxes
69¢ per box
300+ Boxes
75¢ per box
NOTE: The breakdown is different for Juliettes (individually registered Girl Scouts). Badgerland will connect with those families separately.
Remember: Troop proceeds belong to the Girl Scout troop and not to the individual members. Decisions about spending troop proceeds must reflect the wishes and interests of all the girls. This is their girl-led business!
Selling Cookies Online ABC Smart Cookies is where Girl Scouts run their online cookie business. With parent permission, they can use Smart Cookies to invite friends and family to order and pay for cookies online, and more!
• Create a shareable social media ‘shop now’ link • Send eCard invitations to family and friends inviting them to shop their online store • Upload a video introduction and thank-you • Track customer orders for girl delivery (optional) • Track sales goals • View rewards and achievements • Interact with her troop • Access artwork, marketing tools and bee-themed activities. • Take cookie orders on-the-go (for nearly contactless in-person sales)

Selling Cookies In Person A classic Girl Scout Cookie season! Girls ask family, friends, neighbors and coworkers to purchase cookies to support her Girl Scout adventures. Payment for cookies is always collected at the time of the sale. There are two ways to sell in person: Order Taking and Direct Sales.
Order-Taking Sale Girls use an order card to record orders and collect money during the first 3 weeks of the sale. About halfway through the sale she'll place an order for exactly how many boxes she needs, and pick them up from her Troop Cookie Coordinator, and have about two weeks to prep the orders and deliver them to your customers. Managing Her Order-Taking Sale • Get her order card and money envelope from her Troop Cookie Coordinator the week of March 1. • Throughout the Cookie Program (March 5 - April 10) girls take cookie orders using their order card and collect payment for the cookies. • Submit her order card and money collected to her Troop Cookie Coordinator by March 24 so they order your cookies. • Cookies will be available to pick up the weekend of April 1-2. All cookies should be delivered by April 19.
Is This Your Troop's First Cookie Sale? We suggest doing an order-taking sale (rather than direct sales). HERE'S WHY: Taking orders and delivering later means there's no guesswork in figuring out how many boxes each girl in the troop will sell. It also means families don't have to bear the financial risk by pre-ordering cookies for each girl to sell individually. First-Year Troops can also do online sales and a few Cookie Booths...whatever they're comfortable with.
Marketing Her In-Person Sale How will she let her customers know It's Cookies Time? • Business cards • Door Hangers • Posters • Thank-you Cards Find printable examples on our website and on ABC Smart Cookies.
12 FAMILY COOKIE GUIDE
Her Smart Cookies QR Code: How It Works New this year: In addition to their unique URL link to her Cookie Store, girls can also access their very own QR code on Smart Cookies. Add the code to flyers, door hangers and business cards so that customers can simply scan the code with their smartphone camera and their internet browser will open to her online cookie store. They can place their order right there on their phone and pay with a credit card! An order confirmation will be sent to the email address on the girl's account, where it can be approved and fulfilled (if in delivery range) or rejected, using the link provided in the email. Families contact the customer to arrange a time to get their cookies.
Direct Sale (Door-to-Door) If your family feels comfortable going door-to-door in the neighborhood or happens to be visiting family, they can sell cookies from their inventory. Girls have cookies on-hand and give them to the customer at the time of the sale. Don't forget to collect payment! (TIP: You can use the Smart Cookies app to enter the customer's order and accept a credit card payment. Just hand over the cookies!) Managing Her Direct Sale • Determine how many boxes she plans to sell and let her Troop Cookie Coordinator leader know in early February. • Pick up cookies from your Troop Cookie Coordinator the week leading up to the sale. • Throughout the Cookie Program (March 5 - April 10) take cookie orders, collect payments and hand over the Cookies at the time of the transaction. • If you need more cookies, just let your Troop Cookie Coordinator know. They can help you get more throughout the sale. It can take up to 7 days for your troop to get more cookies, so please be patient. • Turn in money weekly and any time you pick up cookies. • Troops may return a limited number of clean, unopened cases of cookies March 26 and 27. Be sure to let your Troop Cookie Coordinator know right away if you're holding too many cookies. • After the cookie sale ends on April 10, girls can continue to sell out their inventory to 0.
Cookie Program Safety Tips 1. Partner With Adults. Adults must accompany Girl Scouts when they're taking orders, selling cookies, or delivering cookies - including cookie booths. 2. Be COVID Safe. Follow local health safety guidelines, including wearing a mask and social distancing. See our Cookie Booth Safety Guidelines on page 14. 3. Girls should not give their phone number, address or last name to customers. 4. Girls should not carry large sums of cash. All money needs to be turned in promptly and frequently by a responsible adult. 5. Show You're A Girl Scout. Wear your Girl Scout sash/vest or other Girl Scout clothing to identify yourself as a Girl Scout when selling cookies.
Ways to Take Cookie Payments From Customers CASH - Wear gloves and use hand sanitizer when handling cash CHECK - Checks must be written out to the troop or Girl Scouts of WI - Badgerland (not to the parent or girl) CREDIT CARD - Contactless! Plus, sales are stronger when customers have the option to use a credit card. • Smart Cookies App • Online Sales: Customer can also use girl's unique Smart Cookies store link to place and pay for their order with a credit card and select whether they want girl delivery, or pay to have the cookies shipped directly to them. • For in-person sales: girls and troops can take payments using their Smart Cookies app. The customer simply selects Girl Delivery and she hands over the cookies. Simple as that. Badgerland covers all credit card fees for transactions through Smart Cookies, saving the troop some money. • For booth sales, the booth must be listed in the Smart Cookies Booth Scheduler in order to take payment using Smart Cookies.
• Square Reader or PayPal Account • Troops can take credit cards out in the field or at booth sales using a Square device or PayPal account. • Credit card readers are not provided by Badgerland. Troops are responsible for all transactional fees charged by the company. info@gsbadgerland.org | 13
Booth Sales
Most troops hold several booth sales throughout the year where girls work together to achieve troop and individual goals...all while practicing their financial literacy and communication skills (oh, and having a BLAST!).
Girls who participate in a Cookie Booth earn this patch!
At a Cookie Booth, girls sell to the general public in places such as grocery stores, local businesses, and convenient drive-through spaces. In addition to troop booths, we encourage families and smaller groups of Girl Scouts to hold their own socially-distanced cookie booths. Just be sure to let your Troop Cookie Coordinator know.
Safety Guidelines: Cookie Booths During COVID Follow these important booth safety guidelines when participating in a booth sale. For indoor booths, no more than 2 Girl Scouts and 2 adults/volunteers per shift will be permitted at a time to allow for proper social distancing. We suggest breaking your 3-4 hour booth into shifts so all girls get a chance to participate. • • • • • •
All participants (girls and adults) must wear face coverings/masks during booths to protect themselves and others. Troops/families are responsible for bringing their own table, chairs, signage and safety supplies. This includes hand sanitizer, gloves, and extra face masks. Clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces and wash/sanitize hands often while staffing the booth. Wear gloves when handling cash. Girls must limit close contact with others and maintain proper distancing from customers. Encourage touchless payment methods to minimize cash handling. You can display the girl/troop Smart Cookies store link to promote touchless transactions at your regular booths. Customers can scan the QR code with their smartphone camera and be taken instantly to the Smart Cookies store.
Cookie Booth Etiquette
Booth Sale Packing List
• Before setting up the booth, check in with the store manager. After the booth, give a thank you card that the girls have already prepared and signed.
Safety Supplies (see Guidelines)
• Some stores have solicitation policies that don’t allow girls to ask customers to purchase cookies until they approach the booth. Clarify the policies at your location before selling.
$40 Cash for Change
• A Girl Scout always is courteous and says thank you even when someone chooses not to purchase cookies. • Leave the area cleaner than you found it and remove all empty boxes. • When transitioning booth shifts, allow the first troop to complete their time before beginning to set up. • Sell only Girl Scout cookies at your Girl Scout cookie booth. • Girl Scouts should always be in uniform when selling Cookies.

Host Your Own Booth! Booths are usually scheduled by the troop, but this year we're encouraging families to take the lead and organize their own booths or drive-through pick-ups too! REMINDER that booth sales, and door-to-door sales, must be within the confines of Badgerland Council's membership area. Not sure? Ask us: info@gsbadgerland.org Booths can be held at retail stores, grocery stores, hair salons, churches, parking lots (with safety protocols) or other places with lots of foot traffic. Reach out to the store or property management ahead of time and request to set up a time for your family to sell Girl Scout Cookies. Be sure to let your Troop Cookie Coordinator know when and where you'll be hosting a public booth so they can it listed in the Cookie Finder app. Check the list of council-secured booth locations on our website to make sure you're not contacting these businesses (troops will be able to sign up for those locations through ABC Smart Cookies ONLY).
Creative (Hybrid) Booth Sale Ideas
Take Contactless Payments Using the Smart Cookies App If selling cookies in-person, girls and troops can use the Smart Cookies App to take virtual payment.
Customers are getting more comfortable placing and paying for their orders on their smartphone or mobile device. This opens up a world of possibilities! Drive-Through Booths w/ Curbside Pickup Secure a convenient and public location (such as a local business, park or library) to host a scheduled drive-through booth. In the days leading up to the sale, the promote her sale via email, social media, door hangers, yard signs and other creative ways to let your neighbors know that Girl Scout Cookies are back and how to order. (Be sure to include your QR code so that customers can easily place and pay for their order in advance.) When they arrive curbside, they'll provide their name and the girls will load the pre-packaged order into their vehicle. Virtual Booths A troop-secured booth that you hold online for local delivery of cookies to customers OR create a location for pickup. You can even create a "virtual" booth along side an inperson booth to take "preorders" from customers so they can drop by your in person booth and simply pick up their cookies already ordered.
Cookie Returns There are many factors involved in the sale (such as inclement weather or illness) that can influence how many cookies Girl Scouts can sell. That's why, near the end of the sale, we offer troops the option to return 1/2 case (6 boxes) of cookies for each girl registered to the troop. Parents may return unopened, clean cases of cookies to their troop before March 24, but if you know you'll have too many cookies left over let your Troop Cookie Coordinator know ahead of time so they can shuffle them around to other families.
