2 ☙ Community Opportunity Directory
Badgerland Friends Community Opportunity Basics What is a Community Opportunity? A Community Opportunity (also known as a Badgerland Friend) is a local businesses/organization that has Girl Scout program opportunities. Community Opportunities are part of how girls connect with the world around them.
What types of events do the Badgerland Friends offer? Community Opportunity Organizations offer two different types of events. 1. Scheduled events | Programs that are marketed through Badgerland Girl Scouts in the upcoming events listing as well as on the Council Calendar. 2. Flexible Events | Events that are marketed through the Community Opportunity Directory that you call and set up on a date and time that works for your Girl Scout troop.
How do I register for a Community Opportunity? There are two ways to register for a community opportunity. 1. Locate the Badgerland Friend’s community opportunity that your girls want to participate in on the Council Calendar or Activity Listing. Follow the links or instructions provided to register. 2. Contact the Badgerland Friend directly to register for the program event or opportunity. The Badgerland Friend can also help if you have any questions about their program.
Should we follow the Safety Activity Checkpoints for our desired activity? When preparing for any activity with girls, always begin with the Safety Activity Checkpoints written specifically for that particular activity. See current Safety Activity Checkpoints here.
Do we need to maintain proper adult to girl ratio while at the Community Opportunity? Your group must have at least two unrelated, background checked and registered adults present at all times, plus additional adult volunteers as necessary, depending on the size of the group and the ages and abilities of girls. See the Safety Ratios here. • Adult volunteers must be at least 18 years old (or the age of the majority defined by the state, if it is older than 18) One volunteer in every group must be female. •
There may be a program that has been given approval; by Badgerland Girl Scouts to not have adults present at. In these instances, all of the adults that will be working directly with the girls will have passed the Badgerland Girl Scout background check. If you are unsure if the business/organization has been given approval to run a program without Girl Scout adult supervision please contact our Customer Care Team and they can help you. info@gsbadgerland.org | 800.236.2710

Table of Contents Girl Scouts believes in delivering consistent, high-quality experiences that serve our girls. Our volunteers prepare girls to empower themselves and build skills with lifetime values. These experiences focus on five national outcomes: increasing sense of self, developing positive values, building healthy relationships, seeking challenges in the world and problem solving within their community. Girl Scouts provides these experience and fulfills these five outcomes using our four program pillars: Outdoor, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship, and STEM. This directory is organized by the four pillars. Please refer to the corresponding area to see community opportunities within that pillar.
