THANK YOU!

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the Faculty and Staff and especially our students, I extend my thanks and appreciation to all who chose to support and invest in Gill St. Bernard’s School this past year.

This academic year marked my 20th anniversary as the GSB Head of School. Through the collective efforts of the entire community, the progress made over the last two decades is palpable. Our campus expanded in size and stature, our student enrollment continues to grow, and our sights are set on a very bright future for Gill St. Bernard’s.

History Made and Records Broken

Thanks to our entire community, over $2,000,000 was raised to support the GSB Fund, Capital needs, and the Endowment. The GSB Fund reached a record-breaking $1,411,649 this year. The Second Annual Founders’ Day raised $192,000 surpassing our initial goal by 45%! The Scholarship Endowment raised $386,748, with 21% of our operating budget dedicated to supporting student scholarships and financial needs. A tremendous accomplishment for our community.

THANK YOU! 2021-2022

Not only did we meet and surpass our financial goals this year, our students and faculty and staff created memorable moments, hit significant milestones, and earned well-deserved accolades, awards, and achievements. We have so many shining stars and I am thrilled to shine a light on a few.

• GSB graduated 88 seniors, one of the larger classes, with 67% attending their first choice of college and university.

• 11th grade Chess team ranked 1st in the NJ Chess Championship and ranked 8th in country – continuing GSB’s long legacy of chess champions.

• Caroline Rongen ‘23 and Sara Rodriguez ‘23 placed first and third in the 2D Art category, respectively, while Maddie Buynak ‘23 earned second place in the 3D Art category at the Arts of Respect High School Showcase.

• GSB varsity teams won 10 conference, county, sectional, or state championships. 85 student-athletes earned post-season accolades (All-Conference, All- County, All-Prep, All-State, All-America); and 9 seniors from the Class of 2022 will be competing in college (7 of the 9 at the Division One level).

As we look to the year ahead, I am thrilled at the prospect of making more memories, celebrating more achievements, and celebrating a significant milestone for our community – the 50th Anniversary of the joining of St. Bernard’s and Miss Gill’s School for Girls. What has been

accomplished over the last fifty years is tremendous. Imagine what the next fifty years will bring! Again, our deep thanks and appreciation for your support.

Warm regards,

One of the goals of the Parents’ Association is to raise funds to enrich programs, support faculty, and staff wish lists, and continue to improve the GSB experience for all students. Faculty and staff submitted funding requests and this year 100% of their requests were approved. Requests included new tinker tubs for lower school classrooms, enhancing our enrichment programs with visiting authors, equipment for our STREAMS program, and in the upper school investing in mental health programs. What inspires you to give?

I was raised in a very philanthropic family in which we were taught to give back to society and to your community through both time & treasure. Being able to make a difference is what drives me.

What does GSB mean to you?

GSB has not only been a school for my 3 children but it has also been a home. I have watched them both triumph & fail in their climb toward adulthood. GSB has been the foundation we wanted our children to have beneath them.

What about GSB impacted you the most?

The ability to make a difference through my time on the Board not only in the lives of my children but in the lives of all the children who have been at GSB while we have been here and for all of the children who will come to GSB. It’s important to leave the school in a better place than when we first arrived.

Gill St. Bernard’s School saw record engagement this year!

We were grateful for the many opportunities on campus and off to connect, reconnect and reminisce. Alumni gathered in Morristown, New York City, Hoboken, Boston, and Washington D.C. Author Alexi Nedd ’09 came back to campus to share her wisdom; the class of 1971 and 1972 celebrated their 50th Reunion in the chapel sharing stories of times far gone and updates on lives lived, careers pursued and so much more!

While attending GSB, I loved being an active member of the community through yearbook, student government, cheer, and I love all the memories I’ve made with lifelong friends. I’m excited to give back to the school by bringing the Alumni Network to support each other and the current community on campus!”

2021-2022 Volunteers

Gill St. Bernard’s School offers a wide range of ways for parents, alumnae, alumni, and friends of the community to share their time, treasure, and talent. We rely on volunteers in many aspects of school life, and these special individuals strengthened and supported our community during the 2021–2022 school year.

We thank you for your dedication, effort, and hard work.

I volunteer because giving my time and effort shows my children that I think of GSB as more than just a campus and academic buildings; it is a community where everyone plays a role. I am always happy to be helping behind the scenes.

- Sacha Marcucci P’26, ‘29, ‘32

Aside from the great friendships I have formed, I volunteer at GSB to contribute to the fundraising  events which directly impact our classrooms and campus and to cultivate the unique GSB community through annual family events. As a volunteer I have an informed pulse which not only drives my desire to volunteer, but also helps me to be a more effective and supportive parent in our home.

Scholarship and Endowment

What remains true to Gill St. Bernard’s School core is the belief that a balanced education should be accessible to all regardless of their financial ability. A GSB education is made possible by the endowment, which provides the resources for deserving students. Under Sid Rowell’s leadership and that of the Board of Trustees, the endowment has been and continues to be a focus and priority for the school. By our 125h Anniversary, we hope that as many students as possible can experience a GSB education.

2021-2022 – What a Year!

This past year was one for the books! Our community once again thrived, achieved, and grew. Our students hit milestones, scored goals, won awards, achieved personal bests, and most importantly made lasting memories. GSB is truly a special place, and we are so grateful to our community who continues to invest, celebrate, and support our school.

The GSB Fund hit a major milestone - over $1,400,000 was raised, the largest amount in the fund’s history! We were able to achieve this incredible number because of the financial support received throughout the year. The generosity of our alumni, families, students, faculty, and staff is a true testament to the importance of what we do here at GSB and who we are.

GSB students remain at the core of what and why we do what we do each day. Behind that core is our entire network of families, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends supporting every aspect of our mission to provide a balanced, diverse, and secure community that prepares students academically, socially, and ethically for college and for a meaningful life.

I thank you for your gracious, thoughtful, and kind support. We look forward to another year of wins, challenges, milestones, achievements, and memories.

Warm regards,

50 Years of Excellence
