Here we prepare girls for a lifetime of leadership through access to countless girlled experiences and skill-building opportunities, supportive adults, and an inclusive community to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. Last year we served over 18,000 girls and helped them find new skills and passions launching them on their leadership journey. The experiences girls have in Girl Scouts change lives and your help make it possible. Our tireless volunteers across 9 counties have devoted countless hours to developing our girl leaders, while our partners and donors have contributed their support and resources to the movement. In 2017-2018 Girl Scouts saw the largest roll-out of new badges and program content in a decade with a strong focus on the outdoors and STEM We are increasing the visibility of our prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award where more girls are taking action to improve their communities, and enhancing female networking opportunities, including the new Girl Scout Network on Linkedin where more than 50 million Girl Scout alums can now follow the Girl Scout Network. In 2019 we will build upon these successes and expand our reach to ensure that any girl in our region who wants to be a Girl Scout has the opportunity. In order to realize this vision we must continue to engage our community – as members, volunteers, donors, ambassadors and partners in Girl Scouting. I ask each of you to consider who you know that is passionate about building girl leaders and I ask you to invite them to join us. Together we will fulfill our mission and build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. To all of our supporters, I say thank you! Your support makes a difference and changes girls’ lives within our local communities and eventually the world.

At Girl Scouts, we help girls empower themselves and unleash their inner (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™!

We do so through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience — a collection of engaging, challenging, and fun activities like earning badges, going on awesome trips, selling cookies, exploring science, getting outdoors, and doing community service projects, all within the 4 pillars of the Girl Scout experience: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) | Outdoors | Life Skills | Entrepreneurship As a result, Girl Scouts develop a strong sense of self, display positive values, seek challenges and learn from setbacks, form and maintain healthy relationships and learn to identify and solve problems in their communities. To bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to life, activities are led by girls themselves. Girls come up with their own ideas, build teams, and experience the joy of making a positive impact. At Girl Scouts, girls will: Discover: Find out who she is, what she cares about, and what her talents are. Connect: Collaborate with other people, both locally and globally, to learn from others and expand her horizons. Take Action: Do something to make the world a better place.

Be Confident Like a Girl Scout Highlight

Camper Quote: “Girl Scouts helped me become a confident, determined, energetic goal-setter. Imagine this: a young girl in kindergarten who is so shy changes into a whole new person all because of Girl Scouts. Now, (at) 10 years old, I put the G in Go-Getter. It all started with selling nuts, candies, and magazines. I made eye-contact, spoke loudly and clearly, and met lots of new people. For 4 years in a row, I’ve been number-one seller in New Jersey. I now can call myself a leader. I get straight A’s and am involved in many community service projects. What I learned over the past 5 years in Girl Scouts is that when you reach your goal, set a NEW, higher goal because you can always do better for yourself and others.” Josephina Corona | Age 10

Cookie Program The Girl Scout Cookie Program prepares girls with the business smarts they need to take on the world! As the largest girlled entrepreneurial program in the world, the Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches girls essential life skills like: Goal setting, Decision Making, Money Management, People skills, and Business Ethics. STEM

Innovate Like a Girl Scout

Girl Scouts has a way of capturing girls’ natural curiosity and creativity, unleashing their inner innovator through career exploration in science, technology, math and engineering (STEM). While interests in these avenues can decrease for many girls as early as middle school, Girl Scouts allows them to embrace these fields of study through hands-on experiences.

In 2018, girl members of the Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey earned a total of 6,388 STEM badges Samantha DeMartino, go-getter & All-star Samantha DeMartino is a go-getter Girl Scout with a passion for STEM. Sam became a GSCSNJ Media Girl as an 8th grader, and has stepped up to leadership roles within the Council over the past few years. Whether as Mistress of Ceremonies for the Girl Award Ceremony, facilitating a workshop at the Girl Leadership Summit, or creating a club at her school to raise awareness about her town’s animal shelter and encourage adoption for her Gold Award, Sam is no stranger to taking the lead. Recently, Sam reached for the stars with her love of Astronomy, and hosted Space Science Badge Workshops for grades K-5 at the STEM Conference. She’s also interned at the FBI, and is exploring careers in animal science and forensic science.

Girl Scout STEM Conference Our annual Girl Scout STEM Conference has grown over the years from a volunteer-led program to a full-scale STEM immersion event. In 2018, it was held at Stockton University and served 100 Girl Scouts and their families. In 2018, there were workshops in Robotics, Circuits, Programming, Engineering, and Physical Science. The Girl Scouts also offered an intro to soldering workshop, had mechanical engineering badges and a robotics program for grades K-3.

Be Courageous Like a Girl Scout

camp aide, alex gonzalez, 17 Before I get out of the car, my campers are already screaming my name. The counselors even joke, “There goes Alex’s parade.” The girls eagerly wait for me to explain what we are doing for the day. The activities can be anything from making slime to nature hikes. Their faces glow as we talk about the day and I am so happy I have that impact on them. I like the way I can inspire the campers. I can influence them to do activities they wouldn’t have done before. Oak Spring has a rock wall. And yes, a lot of girls are super excited to go on and reach the top, ring the buzzer and look down to see the other campers cheering them on. However, some girls are afraid and do not want to go on. I always try to talk them into it, because it is an amazing experience and a great way to face their challenges. They are so emotional and happy when they reach the top - it makes me feel good that I can help someone conquer their fears. I have a necklace I bought for camp. On the necklace it says” courage- confidence- character” I wear it every day. It helps reinforce why I am here, and why this camp is my true home. Camp HAS changed my life and help me realize what I want to do in the future. Due to my camp experiences, I want to become a teacher in the future. Everything starts and grows at Oak Spring; trust, problem solving, friendships, smiles, love, confidence, comfort, so much more. Welcome to Oak Spring in my heart, my home.

Camper Quote: “I went to Camp Sacajawea this year for the first time. I loved day camp because there are so many activities to do like archery, swimming and boating. And I got to sleep over one night!! I can’t wait till next summer when I get to go again!! Thanks Girl Scouts for helping me have such a great time!!!” Chloe C. | Age 8

Life Skills

Be Bold Like a Girl Scout She is confident, ambitious and committed to empowering herself and others to make a difference. As girls progress through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, they earn our high awards, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Through the high awards, Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey delivered hours of community service protecting the environment, mentoring younger students in STEM and Music programs, and advocating against cyber-bullying. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement earned by girls who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, taking an issue they are passionate about and developing a project that has a substantial impact in their communities, and beyond. It is the most prestigious award given by the Girl Scouts.

Highlight gold award girl scout, anna lauricella The purpose of my Gold Award Project was to increase the inclusiveness of my community. The historical landmark Woosamonsa Schoolhouse, which was erected in 1876, has been inaccessible to those with mobility issues since its founding. Having grown up going to the Woosamonsa Schoolhouse Strawberry Socials, I was witness to countless elderly community members struggling to partake in the festivities. I thus decided to make a difference by constructing a permanent handicap ramp so that all can enjoy the building’s incredible history.

Silver award girl scout, Iyana Mceachern Through Girl Scouts, Iyana discovered her love of books and was compelled to affect early childhood literacy. Iyana named her project and non-profit organization ‘The Giving Bookshelf’, providing children in high-need communities access to books. “It is the best feeling to see the smiles on a child’s face when they are told that a bookshelf is for their school and they will have books to take home. My life has been completely impacted by Girl Scouts.”

Community Development A Special thank you letter from a proud GSCSNJ parent “I wanted to just take a minute to say thank you and let you

know what a wonderful experience Girl Scouts has been for both our two oldest daughters and our family as well. Both girls have been involved with Girl Scouts since kindergarten and are currently in their 4th and 2nd years with their Troops. According to our oldest, the field trips have really stood out to her. “I love the field trips because they let us get out and explore, have fun with our troop and make new friends too!” She is learning that a little confidence goes a long way but that when you work together the possibilities are endless. Reaching their goals and earning new badges along with their lessons has definitely given her a sense of accomplishment. Our second year Daisy thinks “The activities are awesome!”. She really enjoys the hands-on projects, especially the STEM activities. (She) loves being able to work on them side by side with her friends while she learns. The Cookie Program has been a family favorite. The girls love asking our family, friends, neighbors and teachers to support their Girl Scout Troops and collecting orders on their own. Together we prepare the orders, have the girls track them and their sales, count their money and make personalized thank you notes for each and every order. They love setting their own goals and the excitement of reaching them and what it means for their program. Thank you again for all that you and Ms. Barb do to provide this opportunity to the girls. They are truly learning how to see the Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader in themselves. We all enjoy and appreciate it so very much!” Bridget Golembiewski | Mother | Gloucester County, NJ

Member Quote: “Girl Scouts has been a part of my family since the early 1930s when my mother was a Sea Scout. When I was of age, I began Brownies and stayed involved (in Girl Scouts) until Cadets. I have fond memories of working as a team, going to camp in the summer and selling Girl Scout Cookies. In the eighties, I had the pleasure of being the troop leader for my daughter, beginning at Daisies and going through Juniors. When she moved into Cadets, I became the assistant leader. Having recently retired, I now look back on what Girl Scouts has done for me in my lifetime. My goal has always been to help others at all times. Giving back to others became a central part of who I am and what I feel is important today. Becoming a lifetime member of Girl Scouts and a Green Trefoil Society Member has meant so much to me. I am able to support Girl Scouts so future generations will also have these experiences. I am fortunate to be one of many women who had the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful organization and am grateful for all it has done for me in my lifetime Dorothy Fauver, EdD. | Green Trefoil Society Member, Lifetime Member
