I n t ro d u c t i o n DIVA-for-Rhino is Solemma’s legacy daylighting and energy modelling plug-in for Rhinoceros, a NURBS modeling software. The plug-in was initially developed at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University and is distributed by Solemma LLC. DIVA-for-Rhino allows users to carry out a series of environmental performance evaluations of individual buildings and urban landscapes including Radiation Maps, Photorealistic Renderings, Climate-Based Daylighting Metrics, Annual and Individual Time Step Glare Analysis, LEED and CHPS Daylighting Compliance, and Single Thermal Zone Energy and Load Calculations. Key features: ADVANCED USER INTERFACE – Input and output parameters can be added and removed from components at the click of a button. SUN PATH DIAGRAMS – Real-time display of sun paths and shadows. RADIATION MAPS – DIVA’s radiation map tools allow simulation on an annual, seasonal, or point-intime basis.

Find and download the version compatible with your system
In case, the DIVA toolbar is not visible, navigate to ‘C:/DIVA/64bitPluginFiles’ and drag and drop the ‘DIVA.rui’ on the Rhino screen until the DIVA toolbar is added to Rhino. You are all set to use and explore DIVA now!
You should now be able to see the DIVA toolbar after installation.

I n s ta l l D I VA f o r Rhin o Workflow The basic workflow for installing DIVA is as follows: > Search for ‘download diva for rhino’ plug-in on your web browser and click on the link from ‘Solemma’. This would usually be the first link on the search results page. or Directly download from: http://solemma.net/Download. html >Find and download the version compatible with your system > Open Rhinoceros after installing DIVA. When you open Rhino, DIVA welcome screen appears showing the license information. Click ‘Continue’ to close the welcome window.

Workflow The basic workflow for environment setting is as follows: 1. Open the ‘SunPath’ Grasshopper Script > Open ExampleMassing.3dm > Open SunPath.gh with Grasshopper in Rhino. >Check current weather data resource on the right side of the script (Settings) >Update the weather data by clicking the ‘Loc’ button to select the region that matches with site location.

Workflow The basic workflow for environment setting is as follows: Part 1. Site Selection >Select one or multiple Breps for casting shadow Part 2. Shadow Range Generation >Go to View Setting >Switch to DivaSunPath6 and you will able to see the generated sun path and shadow.

Workflow * If you have problem with seeing the shadow ranges,
1. Go to DivaSunPath 6 View Settings
Please read the instructions to fix the view issue as follows: Part 1. > Go to Rhino Options > View > Display Modes > Select ‘DivaSunPath6’ > Ground Plane Settings >Make sure ‘Shadow only’ is selected Part 2. >Type ‘Lights’ in command line >Check and make sure your Sunlight is on

3. Make sure ‘Skylight’ is activated

Step 1. Adjust the viewport and click ‘print’ in Rhino to export the shadow study as a JPG file.
Step 2 (Optional). Bake the Sunpath as vector work in Grasshopper and export vector for visualization work.
