She was also honored with the "Tracy Hughes and Troop 387 Day" proclamations from North Charleston Mayor Summey and Charleston Mayor Tecklenberg. Tracy’s Troop 387 has 100 plus Girls at any one time. She has had a profound impact on the lives of Girls in the Charleston area. The troop is sponsored by Royal Missionary Baptist Church in North Charleston. Lillian Brunson is an active member of her community. Not only was she a Girl Scout herself, but was a Leader for her daughter and granddaughter’s Troops. Ms. Brunson was a teacher in the Darlington County School District for over thirty years. Over these years, she worked hard to help her students and her dedication can be seen in her accolades, including several Teacher of the Year awards. As well as teaching school, Mrs. Brunson has been a swimming instructor for over forty-five years. As a mother, a leader, and a mentor, Lillian Brunson has dedicated her love and life to her community. She says her legacy will be all the hundreds or maybe thousands of people that she has taught to swim… How many lives she might have saved.
