Sandy Ridge, owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina, is our resident camp located in Marlboro County, near Bennettsville, SC. The camp is on 500 acres of beautiful sand hills. With a capacity of 72 girls per week, Sandy Ridge is the perfect place to spend summer break. Facilities include a swimming pool, two lakes, watercraft, an archery range, sports field, a clay pit, and an air conditioned dining hall. There are three sleeping units, all of which are air conditioned by window units. Sandy Ridge is accredited by the American Camp Association. Accreditation means Sandy Ridge has undergone a thorough review of more than 250 standards, evaluating everything from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. Sandy Ridge offers camp experiences for all girls’ ages 6 through 17. Camps are listed in the brochure according to the week a specific program is offered. Please note that camp registration is based on a girl’s age, not their grade level. We recommend finding the week or weeks your girl can attend camp and reading through the available programs with her, and then registering early. Many programs will fill up quickly. Please remember you do not have to be a current Girl Scout to register for camp at Sandy Ridge. There is an additional $30 registration fee for girls who are not current Girl Scouts and it pays for their Girl Scout registration through September 30, 2016. Many of our campers’ only Girl Scout experience is at Sandy Ridge each summer, and they are not involved in a Troop for the remaining months of their membership.

Welcome to Sandy Ridge! Our camping experiences are all about your girl. Our goal is that every girl will have a fun, entertaining summer experience while being introduced to a variety of new activities, challenges, and friends. Our founder, Juliette Gordon Low, loved nature and today Girl Scouts continues to honor her by promoting respect and love of the great outdoors far and wide. Through Girl Scouting, girls see the Earth as their home. Whether they’re learning about endangered wildlife, developing creative recycling projects, or working toward a grade-level award, girls focus on care, conservation, and responsibility. We want to make sure the beauty and wonder of our planet endures for future generations to enjoy. Camping is a great way for girls to gain a deep appreciation for nature while they develop leadership and social skills. Girls can enjoy a variety of camp experiences, such as day, resident, travel, and troop camping. You are entrusting us with your most valuable possession. It is our job to responsibly care for your girl while providing fun activities that will challenge her mentally, physically, and creatively. With us, girls will make a bunch of new friends and have a ton of new experiences that show them how exciting the world is — and how awesome they are — over and over again. We live in a world of screens — Smartphone! Laptop! TV! Tablet! — and sometimes our girls need to get away from it all! And we get it. That’s why girls can focus one of their Girl Scout experiences on getting outdoors. It’s in our DNA! See you at Camp!

Hello Campers and Families, It’s hard to believe but 2016 will be my fourth summer at Sandy Ridge. Where has the time gone? As I am busy preparing for an amazing summer at Sandy Ridge, I want to take a moment to reflect on all the improvements that have occurred at Sandy Ridge over the last few years (see sidebar below) and to say a huge Thank You to all our Volunteers, Troop Leaders, Board Members, and Staff. Without all your hard work and dedication to the girls, none of this would have been possible. Always remember why we are here! WE BUILD GIRLS OF COURAGE, CONFIDENCE, AND CHARACTER WHO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE! Whether it is shooting down a rapid in a canoe, trying archery for the first time or sitting around a campfire singing songs and eating s’mores, it is important to always remember that WE are here for her! Thank you for always supporting Sandy Ridge. I look forward to seeing you this upcoming summer! See you at Camp!

Is Your Camper Ready For Camp?
This is a question many parents struggle with when sending their girl to camp. Some things to consider are:
How long can you manage without your child? What is the longest length of time she has been away from home? How does she deal with being away from home? Do you usually have to go and pick her up early when she is away from home? Does she think she can stay at camp for a week? After considering these questions, talk with your girl and decide if it is the right time for her. If you need more information, a checklist and articles can be found at American Camp Association website, www.acacamps.org.

Health and Safety Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina does not require campers attending summer resident camp to have a physical examination. We do require a Health History Form (completed by parent/ guardian) and a current immunization record (or immunization waiver). The Health History Form is included in your camper’s confirmation packet. If your camper does not have a completed Health History Form and immunization record (or immunization waiver) at Check-In, she will not be able to stay at camp until they are turned in. Please bring the Health History Form with you to CheckIn. Do not mail this form to any of the Girl Scout offices or to Sandy Ridge. The staff members who work with your camper are trained in basic first aid and CPR. A health supervisor is on hand to care for campers with more severe illnesses or injuries. There is also a physician on call for the entire camp season. If your camper becomes ill while at camp, you will be notified in order to determine a course of action. All medications are kept in a locked cabinet in the health center and are dispensed by the health supervisor. Accommodations can be made for girls with special needs. Three well balanced meals are served each day in the Dining Hall. The Camp Director will work with parents to accommodate special dietary needs when given advance notice. We ask that specialty food items be provided by the families. These items will be stored in the kitchen. Contact Chuck Iler at chuckiler@ girlscoutsesc.org or 843-479-6814 to discuss any needed accommodations.
