UNIFest
UNIF est
UNIFest is one of the Festival’s big success stories. It started in Buxton in 2012, and has gone from strength to strength, introducing many students to Gilbert and Sullivan for the first time.
Stephen Turnbull, Secretary of the Sir Arthur Sullivan Society, is the Adjudicator. This is what he had to say following this year’s UNIFest.
“What a delight it was this summer to see the UNIFest return after its two-year hiatus. University Gilbert and Sullivan / light opera societies were hit hard by the pandemic, with a complete generation of students missing out on the opportunity to participate. Several societies have, sadly, gone to the wall. But enough took part to enable us to have a worthy competition and the auguries for future years are good.
The competitive element of UNIFest is important. The universities take the competition seriously and consider the awards to be worth winning. It has been my privilege to have been Adjudicator of every UNIFest since 2013, during which time I have watched and enjoyed more than sixty shows. None has been dull, and all have reflected credit on their casts and creatives. UniFest promotes teamwork, creativity, imagination, excellence, and fun.” All performances start at 2.30 pm in the Pavilion Arts Centre. Tickets £15
