GIRL SCOUT MISSION Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Going to camp is a big decision, now more than ever. At Camp Sacajawea, you can feel at ease, knowing your daughter is well cared for, happy, learning and exploring the great outdoors! She’ll have the time of her life discovering the wonders of nature, trying new things, making friends and much more. Owned and operated by Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, Camp Sacajawea in Farmingdale provides outdoor activities and traditional summer camp experiences in a supportive and encouraging environment. Our camp gives girls the space to discover a strong sense of self, gain practical life skills, become resourceful problem solvers, and cultivate healthy relationships. Girl Scout Camp will always be a place where girls can:

GIRL SCOUT PROMISE On my honor, I will try: To serve God and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

GIRL SCOUT LAW I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

• EXPLORE THE GREAT OUTDOORS • GROW BY TRYING NEW THINGS • BUILD HER PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS • MAKE AWESOME NEW FRIENDS • BE A LEADER Camp Sacajawea is open to all girls, ages 3-15, and their sibling brothers, ages 3-12, for an unforgettable summer. You don’t have to be a Girl Scout to join the fun, so bring a friend! HEALTH & SAFETY Safety is our top priority at camp. We have made accommodations to ensure the health and well-being of all campers, families, and staff while upholding our standard of quality care and outdoor fun! We know our children need camp more than ever for their physical, emotional and psychological well-being. We are the camp for you, and we thank you for choosing us.

• We had a successful, COVID-free 2020 summer season! • Camp staff have completed courses, webinars and classes offered from the American Camp Association and other organizations about how to keep our campers safe this summer.

• Each unit will hold their own flag ceremony at their unit.

• Limited sized units of up to 20 campers optimize social distancing practices while keeping quality fun!

• Restrooms are equipped with cans of disinfectant and sanitizing wipes are at each restroom door so counselors can spray toilet handles, door handles and faucets.

• Unit Leaders are equipped with hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, and a mask to help mitigate risk. They have been trained on how and when to use these supplies.

• Pick-up is structured so adults will stay in their cars and have their campers brought to them.

• Drop-off is carpool-line style. Upon arrival, we ask families to complete a brief health survey and take temperatures of campers. Campers will sanitize their hands before they enter camp.

• To ensure the safety of all campers, we ask that you practice safe social distancing while away from camp, use face-coverings and be aware of where you go.

• Campers wear masks when traveling through communal areas and when not socially distanced.

• If your camper is ill or injured and needs to be sent home, you will be called and are required to make arrangements for your child to be picked up in a reasonable amount of time.

• Specialists utilize face shields and masks when instructing campers within 6-feet. • A group (unit) will travel together for their activities and stay together all week and will not co-mingle with other units. Campers will sanitize their hands after each activity.

• All equipment will be sanitized after each use.

• If a child is ill, shows flu-like symptoms, has a fever or is vomiting, the camper MUST be picked up and cannot return to camp until she/he is symptom-free for 72 hours without medication.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Girl Scout Camp is where girls thrive in the great outdoors, take on new challenges and gain leadership skills that last a lifetime. Girls who grew up at Camp Sacajawea enjoy sharing their love of camp with the younger girls who follow in their footsteps. Leadership opportunities for these girls are available during specific weeks of camp.

CPA SPECIALIZATION After completing their CPA training, girls can specialize in a specific area of camp. Opportunities include archery and boating. Upon completion, girls will receive their Counselor-In-Training II Pin.

CAMP PROGRAM AIDE (CPA) Girls, eighth grade and above, who train as a Camp Program Aide, learn more about themselves and strengthen their leadership skills in group dynamics, decision-making, and conflict resolution. There is a strong emphasis on the learn-bydoing philosophy under the supervision of our experienced staff. Upon completion of CPA training, girls may apply for up to two weeks of CPA Mentorship and receive the Program Aide Pin and the Wonders of Water Leader in Action.

CPA MENTORSHIP Our CPA Mentorship program gives girls who have completed CPA training the opportunity to share their leadership and outdoor skills with younger campers under the guidance of experienced camp staff. Upon completing their two-week mentorship, girls will receive their Counselor-In-Training I Pin. A determination regarding CPA Mentorship will be made in the spring.

GUARD START This training focuses on the foundations of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Tomorrow program. Instructors emphasize water safety, fitness, response, leadership and professionalism. Girls must be able to swim 25 yards without becoming tired, breathless or stopping for breath.

DAILY ACTIVITIES It is difficult to predict the exact routine girls will follow at camp, parents and guardians can be confident that all safety precautions will be followed. During the 2020 camp season, we offered six weeks of adventure at Camp Sacajawea. Our campers were engaged, had fun, and, most importantly, no campers or staff were affected by COVID-19. Based on our experiences, we know every camp day will begin with a health screening, followed by a review of the day’s activities with a camp counselor in the girl’s unit. Each day includes swimming and various additional activities, including archery, boating, nature exploration, arts and crafts and other team-building activities. If allowed, camp also offers a climbing wall, zipline and our NEW horizontal climbing wall. Evening campfires and overnight activities may also be added as additional options. A determination regarding additional activities will be made in the spring.
