Magazine Show 1 ITV Angila News Feature Student Apprenticeships
Use of Editing •I noticed that the editing for this magazine show was very fast paced which kept the flow consistent. This was done through a variety of shots all combined and included which moved really fast to get all the information in. I feel this will be the right type of editing to use in my documentary as I have a lot of information which I need to include. Also the fast pace will keep my target audience of 16-24 years old stimulated as they will not get bored but will be focused on the constant changing shots. • In terms of graphics, I noticed they were used effectively when naming the interviewees. I think if I could use a similar style of graphic in my documentary, it will enhance the clip making it seem a lot more professional. I have a lot of contacts in mind to use therefore this is definitely a area that I should be looking to produce the best of my ability.
Use of Camera In terms of the use of camera in this news feature, the range was enormous. From a close up shot of a pipe being screwed to a long shot of a roof being thatched. There was also camera movement such as zoom outs of certain clips which I felt worked extremely well. I hope to have the same vast variety of shots such as over the shoulder shots in interviews and several establishing shots according to the location change. I feel during these, a zoom out will look professional and will enhance the clip.
Use of Sound There are different types of sound used in this feature, such as background music and the voiceover. The background music was a instrumental which was effective with a voiceover along the top. I feel I will definitely try and include something of a similar concept as I feel it makes the clip more appealing to listen to. The only difference will be that I will use a range of music by modern artists such as Tinie Tempah, and Adele as they are more relevant to the target audience. I also noticed that with the location change, the use of Diegetic sound was effective adding emphasis, to in this case the occupation of being a technician by presenting the sounds of the tools being used. I think this will be good to use for cutaways of maybe the busy London streets and playgrounds to include in my documentary as they are also relevant to the subject.
Content and Conventions • Statistics
• Archive Footage
• Presenter
This news feature had a few of the general conventions that a magazine show should have but I will be sure to include more in my own documentary. Vox pops, Popular culture references and montages were left out. I feel it is possible to include most of the general conventions and I will aim to do that. The more traits that I do follow, the more I believe my documentary will look professional and enhanced.

Key influences on my idea I felt this news feature is a template for what I want my documentary to be like. It has helped me envision how I want to layout my video. I think the only think I would add is probably some vox pops, some relevant music and maybe a montage to really make it meet the standard. The way the numerous angles and contacts have been organised will influence my idea, as I also wish to set my information in small segments similar to this video.

Use of Editing •I noticed that the editing for this magazine show was a lot more slow paced than the first video. This was done through a lot of talking shots and long clips. This maybe because the video is almost 20 minutes long therefore they can afford a more relaxed approach to the information. As my documentary will only be 7 minutes long, it will be edited really fast to get all the information in. This will be done through fast cutaways and brief interviews, I feel this will be the right type of editing to use in my documentary as I have a lot of information which I need to include. Also the fast pace will keep my target audience of 16-24 years old stimulated as they will not get bored but will be focused on the constant changing shots. • In terms of graphics, I noticed they were used effectively when naming the interviewees. I think if I could use a more modern style of graphic in my documentary, it will enhance the clip making it seem a lot more professional. I have a lot of contacts in mind to use therefore this is definitely a area that I should be looking to produce the best of my ability. Archive footage was also used and I feel using that also will gibe my documentary a lot more depth.
Use of Camera In terms of the use of camera in this documentary, the range was limited. There was only some variation on the use of camera such as a zoom in or a high angle shot. Besides this there could have been a lot more done to enhance this clip. I hope to have the a much more wider variety of shots such as over the shoulder shots in interviews and several establishing shots according to the location change. I feel during these, a zoom out will look professional and will enhance the clip as well as making the whole video stimulating for the audience to watch.
Use of Sound There are some instances where sound is used such as at the start of the video to show the title of the video as well as the use of voiceover through the video. The clip would immediately be a lot more entertaining if more background music was used and maybe some sound effects. I feel if I use the right music which will be relevant to the young people of today such as Tinie Tempah and Adele and also sound effects including Diegetic sounds of the environment in some cutaways, my documentary will sound professional and will be entertaining to watch for my target audience.
Content and Conventions This video seemed to miss out a lot of the general conventions if a magazine shows such as Vox pops, Expert advice or comedy to demonstrate a point of some sort. When talking in terms of entertaining, this video just does not seem to be stimulating enough for my target audience. I personally was very bored a few minutes in. I think I will have to include a lot of traits of a general magazine show, for my documentary to be entertaining to my target audience.
Presenter – Commentary
Camera Movement – Zoom Out

Topic – The American school system Angle – What's wrong with the system ? Opinions – Mostly at the differences between the school performance when taking into account certain factors such as location. Presenters – One old male presenter Locations – Various such as school and office Interviewees – Limited only one parent Facts – Hardly any, just brief statements
Age – 15 - 45 Gender – Both genders Interests – Education, Making Money, Television, Politics Location – American suburbs Ethnicity – Mostly white and black Socio-Economic Group – Aimed more at the ‘C2E’ groups who are more involved with education.
Key influences on my idea I felt the archive footage used was very effective, and I feel maybe including some supported by modern music will look very appealing for my target audience. Besides this, I felt the video was outdated and therefore making a documentary to a similar style would not be relevant to the target audience.
