Camp Sycamore Hills has been providing girls with memorable experiences for the last 50 years. This gorgeous camp, located near Ashland City, offers visitors over 720 acres of beautiful bluffs, woodlands, meadows, streams and rolling hills. Amenities include a pool, air-conditioned barn for meals and recreation, horseback-riding complex, craft barn, challenge courses, rappelling bluff, archery range, canoing, hiking and nine sleeping units. This year we are adding skills based program designed for Girl Scout Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. This program will allow girls to build on skills and achieve awards in the specific areas offered at camp. Our focus areas for this skills based awards this summer are aquatics, boating and swimming, archery, and high challenge course. In the years to come we will add arts, low challenge, cooking, games & initiatives and more. The girls will choose their skills program and attend a 1 1â „2 hour session a minimum of 2 times a week. Then they will join the rest of their group and camp to participate in other camp activities. Also new this year: Sycamore Saturdays, Sycamore Extras and Extended Stays. (See pages 34 & 35)

Horse Programs at Camp Sycamore Hills What makes horse programs at Camp Sycamore Hills unique? The staff, the horses and YOU! Programs are designed to meet the needs of each camper. Whether a first time rider or an experienced equestrian, our goal is to help girls improve horsemanship skills and have fun in the process through progressive riding instruction and barn lessons. Girls can try a new program or come back to a familiar one to experience the variety of horses at Camp Sycamore Hills. Quarter horses, Shetland ponies, Belgians, Tennessee Walkers and more are waiting for you! For safety reasons, some programs require previous experience. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities during their stay.

A. Although age is one factor in camp readiness,

a girl’s maturity level and personality are more important. Talk with your child about camp, and ask if she wants to attend. Additionally, are you ready to send your child to camp? Use the following questions to help make your decisions together. Has your camper ever been away from home for more than one night without a family member? Are you prepared to be away from your child for several days? Can you relax and enjoy yourself when your camper sleeps overnight away from home? Can she care for her own basic hygiene needs, such as brushing her teeth and showering? Are you confident in your daughter’s ability to take care of herself, make her own bed and keep track of her belongings? Does she like (and is she comfortable in) the outdoors? Can she cope with new people, places and schedules? Does she enjoy making new friends? Does she like group situations? If your camper is not ready for a five day overnight stay, we invite her to try one of these programs: Me & Mine: This program is a partnership between a trusted female adult and a camper. S’more Fun, Sycamore Saturdays, Kaleidoscope, Jamboree Junior Jam, Scenes of Camp, Family Camp or Sycamore Sisters are sampler programs.

Q. Will my daughter earn journey requirements, skill builder awards, try-its, badges or interest project awards at camp?

A. During camp your daughter will not focus

on awards, unless specified in the camp description.

Q. Where will my camper stay at camp? A. At Camp Holloway, facilities include platform

tents (floored tents with cots) and dormitory style cabins (bunk beds). Our staff does not sleep in the same tent or room as the campers, but they are in close proximity and easily accessible. Housing assignments are predetermined by the program. Please note that housing assignments are subject to change prior to the start of your camper’s week a camp. For more information about camp facilities, visit our website at http://www.gsmidtn.org/properties/.
