Year of the Outdoor Girl Since the beginning of Girl Scouting, outdoor experiences have been fundamental to the Girl Scout movement. Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts, took girls outside to hike, play basketball, and get active more than a century ago because she knew that experiencing the glory of nature instills something special in girls.
