The Cookie Program helps your daughter connect with her community. Last year, over 135,000 boxes were distributed to worthwhile causes. A virtual gift of caring that sends cookies donated by customers directly to the Capital Area Food Bank for distribution to over 700 partner agencies and sites.

Dear Girl Scout Family, Behind every successful cookie boss are dedicated family members and volunteers. Thanks to your support, girls have the opportunity to learn new skills and gain confidence through the Girl Scout Cookie Program. From Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors, we hope each and every girl participates in the largest girl-led business in the world. Girls achieve their goals in the Cookie Program when the whole family gets involved—and that includes dads, too! Dedicated Men in Green like Cookie Manager Chris (below) help teach their Girl Scouts invaluable financial literacy skills. From chaperoning a cookie booth to volunteering at cookie deliveries, there are so many ways for dads to show their daughters they are “Man Enough” to be Girl Scouts.

When girls participate in the Cookie Program, they learn essential skills for leadership and for life. The money girls earn selling cookies helps fund their activities, like service projects in their community, troop travel, camping and more. The Cookie Program also helps support the Girl Scout movement, ensuring that our Council has the resources to support Girl Scouting in our region and deliver training to our dedicated volunteers.

Ready to make your cookie customers say wow? Showcase your troop’s creative cookie marketing skills by creating your own blinged-out booth. Troops will have the chance to compete for a prize in the Council’s annual Bling Your Booth contest. To participate, submit a photo of your troop’s booth to meider@gscnc.org by March 20, 2016.

Much more than a way to raise money, the Cookie Program is a hands-on leadership and entrepreneurial program. Here are a few examples of how participating in the Cookie Program teaches Girl Scouts skills that will help them grow into leaders in their own lives, leaders in business and leaders in the world:
1. Goal Setting
Your Girl Scout sets cookie sales goals individually and with her team, creates a plan to reach them, and develops Cooperation and Team Building skills all along the way!
2. Decision-Making
Your Girl Scout helps decide how her team will spend their cookie money, furthering her Critical Thinking and Problem Solving skills that will help her in many aspects of her life.
3. Money Management
Your Girl Scout takes cookie orders, handles customers’ money and gains valuable and Practical Life Skills around financial literacy.
4. People Skills
Your Girl Scout learns how to talk, listen and work with all kinds of people while selling cookies. These experience help her develop Healthy Relationship and Conflict Resolution skills she can use throughout her life.
5. Business Ethics
Your Girl Scout is honest and responsible at every step of the cookie sale. Her business ethics reinforce the Positive Values she is developing as a Girl Scout.

How Families Can Help How to Support Your Troop: • Go to the Troop Family Cookie Meeting • Sign and return all permission slips • Provide transportation for order taking and delivery of Girl Scout cookies • Help your Girl Scout network with family and friends, but let her do “the ask” so she can learn important business skills
How to Support Your Girl Scout Cookie CEO: • Listen to her practice her sales pitch • Review cookie materials together • Help her set practical and useful goals about what she wants to learn and earn • Have fun with her!
