Girl Scouts Love State Parks

Come show your Girl Scout love for North Carolina’s State Parks with Girl Scouts all over the country during Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend. Learn what North Carolina State Parks have to offer, what makes them special, and do your part to help keep them that way. Join the statewide NC State Parks “Year of the Trail” by learning about hiking and work towards the Girl Scout hiking/trail badges for each Girl Scout level. Participating Girl Scouts will receive the Girl Scouts Love State Parks patch, complete steps of the Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors Challenge and the North Carolina State Parks Junior Ranger program. Girl Scouts Love State Parks patch included. Different activities and information will be at each of these two local area events so feel free to register for both for the full Girl Scouts Love State Parks experience.

Amazing Troop Race

It’s the most daring competition ever attempted as troops from across 41 counties compete in a race across camp. Family Camp

Camp isn’t just for troops anymore! Campers, bring your whole family to camp for the weekend and show off all of your favorite activities! Each family member will have a chance to go boating, do a craft, go on a hike, compete in archery, attend a campfire (with s’mores, of course!), learn camp songs, and compete in some familyfriendly games. It’s the best of the best that camp has to offer for the whole family! Families can either rent a cabin or tent or bring a tent of their own. Dinner will not be provided on Friday night-families should plan on eating before they arrive. All adults in attendance must have successfully completed a background check. This event does not require a trained outdoor adult and CPR/First Aid certifications.

Alpine Tower Climbing Day

Prepare to reach new heights as you climb your way to the top of the tower on a day just to climb! Test your skills and see how far you can go! You’ll reach new heights, see new sights and take flight - all you have to do is clip in and climb. This event is designed to push participants out of their comfort zones and try new things; however, please note that no participants will ever be forced to climb higher than they are comfortable. Please note that adults will not have the opportunity to climb during this event. A First Aid/CPR-certified adult must accompany troops. Troop Camp: First Overnight

It’s time to get outside with your troop! Head out to Camp Graham and join other first-time troops for a weekend dedicated to first-time overnight camping trips! Troops will have the chance to go boating on the lake, try their hands at archery, do a craft, and more! During the evening, campers will earn their Space Science Badge and participate in an out-of-this-world space-themed party. During the day, troop leaders will also have an opportunity to attend a training session on best practices in planning future camping trips. This event is designed for troops looking to experience their first overnight camping event. Council staff will be onsite to facilitate all activities and support troop leaders in all areas. Dinner is not provided on Friday night. Please bring a bagged dinner. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner Saturday will be provided, along with breakfast on Sunday. Troop leaders do NOT need to have a trained outdoor adult with them for this event. All adults in attendance must be background checked.

Outdoor Skills

It’s time to head outside--we’re ready to teach you the skills you need to be outdoors! Our Outdoor Skills Progression Program is built for Girl Scouts of all ages to come and learn useful skills that they can use as they venture out on troop camping trips. Girl Scouts will work together with their troops to learn new skills, try new things, and have fun all while building courage, confidence, and character in the outdoors. We offer two different Outdoor Skills classes. These classes do not need to be taken in any order. You are welcome to attend one or both in any order that works for you! While these classes are designed for our youth members, troop leaders can learn valuable skills that will allow them to observe and understand what their troop knows, and increase their confidence in the outdoors, as they work to plan their own progressive camping adventures. Individually registered youth must attend with a registered adult.

Fire and Food

Campfires and cooking and cakes-oh my! Spend the day out at camp and learn all about fire safety, and how to cook a three-course meal in the outdoors! We will spend the day learning how to build a fire, and how to cook using a fire, charcoal chimney and camp stove! This program will include both lunch and a snack for youth and adult participants.

Safety and Survival

Does your troop have what it takes to survive in the outdoors? You’ll learn all about safety and survival in this unique outdoor skills event! Spend the day learning about first aid, navigation, knots, water purification, and more! You’ll walk away with your very own first aid kit, exclusive patch and the skills you need to survive in the wild. A First Aid/CPR-certified adult must accompany troops. Are you ready to get your game on? Join us as we bring your favorite games to life all around you! Challenge your aim with a round of archery, show off your skills at the talent show, and participate in the ultimate game show-down! In between the madness, stop by to shop at the bazaar and check out different troop banners. Also, back this year is the Saturday cook-around dinner! Troops will take some time to cook their favorite snack to share with the rest of the participants as they travel around the camp to discover new snacks and meals! We can’t wait to see you at the Gala of Games!

This is a tent camping weekend, and troops are responsible for providing their own tents. Limited space is available in the platform tent units upon request. Troops are responsible for all meals during the event and must be accompanied by an Outdoor Skills certified adult and a First Aid/CPR certified adult. All adults attending must be registered Girl Scout members and have successfully completed a criminal background check prior to the weekend. Please note that event t-shirts will be available for purchase during registration.
