STEM
Creative problem-solving skills, better grades, and a possible future STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) career? Yes, please! Our STEM programs challenge Girl Scouts to be innovators and explore the world of STEM in new and exciting ways. STEM fields need more females taking the lead, and our programs can help them get there. Girl Scouts are unstoppable in tackling real-world problems to make a lasting change. We provide opportunities to engage in the scientific method, try hands-on activities, and to make mistakes and try again— a process through which they will develop the confidence they need to truly make a difference in STEM.

Battleship 101 with Gearshifters
Participating Girl Scouts will work through the Design Thinking Process and satisfy a third of their Think Like an Engineer Journey by working on a project that allows each Girl Scout to create and test a unique build designed especially for this event. This activity will familiarize each Girl Scout with the Design Thinking Process, then use their knowledge of engineering processes to complete two additional activities from the Think Like an Engineer Journey. In addition, each Girl Scout will get to enjoy Battleship 101, in which friendly, knowledgeable volunteers stationed throughout the ship engage visitors in specific subjects and areas including gunnery, radar, sick bay, galley, engineering, and daily shipboard life. Try on helmets, raise signal flags, “text” using semaphore flags, tap out your name using Morse code, type on vintage typewriters and more!
Finally, each Girl Scout will get to have lunch in the Crew’s Mess Hall (Girl Scouts bring their own lunch). This event is open to all Girl Scouts whether they are Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors or Ambassadors.
