I hope you had a great summer and are excited for another Girl Scout year to begin! We are so glad that we can be a place for you to be you. Flip through this book and see what we have in store. Use the check boxes to let your caregiver or troop leader know what you want to try. Whether on your own, with your family, or with your troop, Girl Scout activities and events are fun. Not only that, being a Girl Scout helps you grow and learn about the world around you. Each month, we highlight free patch programs—a great way to add patches to the back of your uniform while learning about different cultures and giving back to your community. When I was a Girl Scout, I loved to go to camp. I hope you’ll plan to join us at one of our troop and family camp weekends. At camp, you can ride a horse, try archery, take a hike, or kayak and canoe. Unplug and get outside this fall! One last thing: Girl Scouting is more fun with friends. This year, I want to challenge you to invite a friend along on the adventure. Have fun!
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Camp with your troop
No matter how long you’ve been a Girl Scout, sometimes it’s hard to remember what’s what. We hope this little glossary helps you navigate the listings in this book.
Badges and Journeys - The building blocks of Girl Scouts. They are leadership units where girls discover, connect, and take action on a variety of topics. They are progressive and grow in-depth and subject matter as your girl grows up in the program.
Event listings - There is always something available for girls and families to do. Programs are added regularly at gsnetx.org/events.
Family & Friend events - As long as one Girl Scout is in the group, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends can join the fun.
Program Grade Level (PGL) - Age groups in Girl Scouts. Daisies are Kindergarten and grade 1, Brownies are grades 2 and 3, Juniors are grades 4 and 5, Cadettes are grades 6, 7, and 8; Seniors are grades 9 and 10; and Ambassadors are grades 11 and 12.
Girl Scouts are forces of nature—and they were meant for outdoor adventures. Each one of those adventures grows her “I’ve got this” attitude. Once Girl Scouts unlock that confidence, they’ll aim as high as the stars they see twinkling above the campfire. Our weekend camp experiences for troops and families are specially developed to give girls and their adults just the right amount of structured activities and free time to embrace their independence while forming new bonds with fellow campers.
From the lake shores at camp Gambill, to the horse trails at Camp Bette Perot, to the mind-bending and badge-earning science fun at The STEM Center of Excellence at Camp Whispering Cedars, there are exciting discoveries for all ages. Not exactly a
“rustic” troop or family? No worries! Our offerings include cabin or lodge sleeping! There’s an option to suit all camping comfort zones. Book your camp weekend today.

Girl Scouts is the place where you can be your true authentic self. Where you are celebrated. Where you are encouraged. Where you are supported. We love getting to know why our girls joined Girl Scouts.
“I am a Girl Scout because I want to help the earth and help people and that’s what Girl Scouts do. Girl Scouts has taught me how to be a better friend and the special friendship of my sister Girl Scouts means so much to me.”- Lucy, Girl Scout Brownie

Girl Scouts who will one day change the world start by first exploring the world around them—from their own community, to trips across the country, to journeys to the other side of the globe.
Troops of all ages can choose to use their troop money (from initiatives like cookie sales and more) to take trips to fun new places, near and far. “Extended travel” is any Girl Scout trip that is three or more nights and/or involves international travel. These trips must be approved in advance through GSNETX’s activity approval process, found at gsnetx.org/activityapproval. They also require the purchase of inexpensive supplementary travel insurance.
Girl Scout Destinations are the ultimate adventures for individual Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. Participating girls make friends from all over the country as they travel with Girl Scouts from
different states. There’s a unique, life-changing experience for every girl.
Soak up the natural beauty of Portugal’s Azores Islands. Experience the old-world wonders of the UK. Canoe through the Northwoods of Minnesota and Canada. It’s time to start planning and applying for your Girl Scout Destinations adventure! Learn more about these and other Destinations at girlscouts.org/destinations.

Renew any remaining members who aren’t yet signed up for the 2023 year. Remember that the 2022 membership expires on October 1 and unregistered girls and volunteers aren’t eligible to participate after that date.
Complete your Troop Update.
Updating your troop information helps new members join Girl Scouts. You can add your troop to the Participation Catalog—our online listing of troops with open spots for girls or volunteers. The Participation Catalog helps families search for troops with open spaces by zip code. It also allows adults to see volunteer opportunities in their area and sign up to help.

Make sure all volunteers are renewed, have current eligible background checks for the year, and have completed required training:

• All volunteers are required to take TR402: Protecting Our Girls every two years.
• At least one volunteer should be First Aid / CPR / AED certified through an approved vendor.
