GSNNJ LINK Program Guide 2019-2020

Page 1

Hey, Girl Scouts…Welcome to a new Girl Scout year! We have a variety of fun and adventurous new program activities and events for girls, troops, and families to enjoy in the 2019-2020 season, plus some old favorites, too. It’s going to be an exciting year! We’re looking forward to our Eco-Adventures for Girl Scout Daisies, Cyber Sleuth activities for Girl Scout Brownies, a trip to New York’s 9/11 Museum and the Broadway show “Come from Away” for Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors, and planning for G.I.R.L. 2020 in Orlando. This year, Girl Scouts has introduced 42 new Girl Scout badges and one new Journey that explore the outdoors, space science, and cybersecurity. LINK program activities help girls earn some of those badges, as well as patches that are part of our LINK Lock & Chain Patch Program. Check out the LINK Program Guide and choose the activities that interest you most. In addition, if you participate in LINK Program activities in each of the following categories, you’ll earn the entire LINK Lock & Chain Patch Set. (Activities are marked with symbols that indicate which Chain Patches you can earn.)        

Civics & History Highest Awards Excursions STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Life Skills Fine Arts Healthy Living College & Careers

Girl Scouts can sign up for LINK activities as individual participants or with other troop members, and families are welcome to attend where specified. For troops and Service Units unable to participate in activities due to scheduling conflicts, our Program on the Go service might be an option for you. GSNNJ will bring some of our most popular program activities to your location (enrollment minimums apply). Call our Customer Care staff for details. LINK activities give Girl Scouts the unique opportunity to explore interests and meet other Girl Scouts, while earning badges and patches. So, get ready to try something new, learn some life skills, and have fun with us along the way. Let’s get started planning your awesome Girl Scout year. Yours in Girl Scouting,

Betty A. Garger President/Chief Executive Officer

Alex Martinez Chief Operating Officer

Charisse Taylor Chief Program Officer

Registration might not be available or accepted after the listed Closing Date. For adding additional registrants in a troop/group to an activity, you can contact the program staff member listed on the bottom of your confirmation to inquire about possible availability.

CONFIRMATIONS OF REGISTRATIONS   

Each participant will receive an email confirmation from noreply@uapps.com after payment is completed. Check your email spam folder if you have not received an email confirmation. Please note the available spots for the program. If the order exceeds the number of spots available, then the registration does not process.

CANCELLATIONS  

Full refunds are given only if GSNNJ cancels the program activity and it cannot be rescheduled. Program activities may be cancelled due to low enrollment or inclement weather. Participants are notified via email after the registration closing date if the program has been cancelled. If programs are cancelled due to inclement weather, you will receive an email about 3 hours prior to the program from the program manager.

RATIOS Program opportunities are provided for registered Girl Scouts and their leaders, unless otherwise indicated as 1:1 (if desired). Additional adults are not permitted to register as they reduce the number of girl participants. Tagalongs (siblings and other non-registered girls) are not permitted at program activities. Non-registered girls are welcome to register for Girl Scout membership in advance and then register for a GSNNJ program activity or event. Ratios are the maximum, not suggested or minimum. Please note: For any program activity with an adult fee, the appropriate number of adults for the age group must register and pay to attend the event. Payment will not be accepted at the program activity unless otherwise noted. Walk-ins are not accepted.

REFUNDS If a troop/group or girl is unable to attend an event or program, a written request for a refund of the fee must be received or emailed to customercare@gsnnj.org, or to the program staff listed at the bottom of the confirmation at least 21 days prior to the event or program deadline, whichever comes first. Refunds will be given minus 15% of the original girl or adult fees to cover administrative costs.  In certain circumstances, such as a medical emergency, a refund will be considered with a doctor’s written statement within 15 days after the event. (5% administrative fee may apply.)  Program activities/events conducted by other institutions have their own cancellation policies that GSNNJ cannot override. Refunds will be issued according to that institution’s policies.

All deposits are non-refundable.

REGISTRATION TRANSFERS 

Transfers will be granted at the discretion of the Program Manager and are not guaranteed. Please check that all participants are able to attend the program activity prior to registering. Please only register girls and adults that are scheduled to attend. Do not register substitute participants. Transfers to a different session will be subject to a 5% administrative change fee. As we enter the 18th year after the attacks, come and honor the memories of the day by sharing the 9/11 Museum followed by the Tony award-winning Broadway Show, Come From Away. Because of the sensitive nature of the museum, the tour is optional, and the fee has been adjusted for those opting out. Those not on the tour will have time to explore the area on their own and meet the rest of the group for lunch. Come From Away is based on the true story of when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned in to an international sleep-over when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from across the globe, were diverted to Gander’s air strip on September 11, 2001. Fee includes coach bus transportation, lunch, and show. Museum tour included for those who register for the tour. Troops must register two adults. Earn the Girl Scout Brownie Potter badge! In this hands-on workshop, Girl Scout Brownies will learn about working with clay. Visit the Stickley Museum and learn about the Art Pottery movement of the early 1900s. Make your own decorative clay tile and pinch pot! Imagine what use you might find for your finished pottery at home! Fun patch and all materials provided. Bring a nut-free snack. During this program, girls will learn about how yoga, meditation, and breath-work can help them connect with their inner voice and learn to be grateful for their bodies - for what they do, rather than how they look.
