Walig Hut Summer 2024

THE WALIG HUT

This charming hut is located above Gsteig at 1’700 meters offering breathtaking views of Gstaad and the Saanenland. It was built in 1783 and like many others, was home to the farmers in the summer when the cows are brought up to pasture. Nowadays, there are very few of them left and it is most difficult to acquire them as they are either derelict or still used by the farmers. So out of respect for this beautiful tradition, the Walig hut underwent only a mild renovation and its simplicity has been maintained. Whether for lunch or dinner (4–14 people), or even an overnight stay (max. 2 adults and 2 children), the beauty and the calm of our Walig experiences will capture you within minutes and make it hard to leave this magical spot.

THE WALIG HUT ÉTIQUETTE

Experience an oasis of tranquillity 1’700 metres above Gsteig. Our Walig Hut offers a breathtaking view over Gstaad and the Saanenland region.

To fully enjoy your experience, please ensure that when you pass through a gate remember to close it, unless you feel like running after the cows. Even though the Walig Hut is in the middle of the Swiss Alps, it is not a public area.

The paths to reach the Walig Hut can be challenging, make sure you have good shoes. Up in the mountains the sun can be strong, therefore sun cream is always a good idea.

Spending the night in an Alpine Hut even in summer can be cold, we recommend to have warm clothes with you.

Kindly note that due to sustainability reasons it is not possible to take your own car to the Walig Hut.
