Coordinator of Residential Support

General Description: The Coordinator of Residential Support works within Residence Education to foster a safe and inclusive environment for students living in University Housing. The Coordinator assists with the oversight of residential student conduct and students of concern, including: case management, review and dissemination of behavior related issues and concerns, serving as a primary Maxient user for University Housing, training and education for conduct and policy for residential students, day-to-day crisis support and intervention, and working closely with campus stakeholders. Strong collaboration between University Housing and campus partners on both the Statesboro and Savannah campuses will be important. This position is classified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as identified through the Jeanne Clery Act federal legislation. The Coordinator of Residential Support reports to an Assistant Director of Residence Education.

Job Specifications/Required Qualifications

● Master’s Degree

● Two (2) years of post-masters experience

Preferred Qualifications and Professional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

● Master’s Degree in Higher Education Student Services, Counseling, or a Related Field.

● Four (4) years of post-masters, progressive experience in a supervisory position in a residence hall environment.

● A strong desire to work directly with students in need of behavioral or mental health intervention.

● Demonstrated skills in the following areas: leadership, supervision, crisis intervention, group dynamics, flexibility, collaboration, and student conduct in a residence hall setting.

● Committed to education, celebration of diversity, and raising social awareness.

● Ability to move objects up to 25 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.

Remuneration/Benefits

The Coordinator of Residential Support position is a twelve-month position. Salary is $40,200 - $50,300. A state employee benefits package is also included. Additional benefits include: Relocation expenses of up to $500 for eligible expenses, limited meal plan, professional development funds.

Duties and Responsibilities

A. Case Management & Student Care: The CRS specific tasks include:

● Develop, maintain, and assess a case management system for use within Residence Education regarding residential students of concern.

● Create and implement a plan with other members of the Residence Education team to provide initial and continued support for residential students of concern.

● Design, generate, and analyze regular reports to show the number of residential students experiencing various concerns and hardships, along with trend and forecasting reports.

● Utilizing trend and forecasting reports, work with the members of the Residential Learning committee, along with RELT, to design and implement both passive and active programming that will help to address concerns amongst the residential population.

● Provide regular information and reports for the Director and Associate Directors of Residence Education to utilize during the Behavioral Assessment Team meetings.

● Assist the Residence Education team in further strengthening relationships with campus partners related to student care, including the Dean of Students, Counseling Center, Health Services, and Student Wellness & Health Promotions.

● Act as the primary liaison with Campus Recreation & Intramurals (CRI), continuing to build and promote the Housing Cup and other joint programming initiatives.

● Collaborate with campus partners on programs related to the wellness of the residential student population.

B. Student Conduct: The Coordinator of Residential Support is responsible for enforcing the behavioral standards set by Georgia Southern University, the Dean of Students Office, and University Housing. Responsibilities for the CRS specifically include:

● Act as one of the primary Maxient software users for the Residence Education team.

● Regularly review all conduct cases and concerns occurring in the residential spaces. Create a system for the efficient and effective review and processing of cases within Residence Education.

● Serve as the staff member primarily responsible for editing and assigning cases to other hearing officers within the department. Work in conjunction with the members of RELT, the Resident Directors, and the Graduate Resident Directors to collect missing information for final incident reports and to address any identified concerns

● Assist as a hearing officer as needed.

● Train professional and graduate staff on the use of Maxient and the proper format for hearing of cases.

● Design and generate regular reports to show data on conduct related trends.

● Work with the members of the Residential Learning committee, along with RELT, to design and implement both passive and active programming that will help to address conduct related trends.

● Assist the Residence Education team in further strengthening relationships with campus partners related to student conduct, including the Dean of Students, Student Conduct, University Police, Legal Affairs, and the Equal Opportunity/Title IX team.

● Working in conjunction with the Dean of Students Office and University Police, establish consistent and appropriate procedures for handling violations of policies in the specified area.

● Create programming and marketing to educate student staff members and residential students on the components of the Community Guide and the Code of Student Conduct, along with the student conduct process.

● Along with the Director of Residence Education and Associate Directors, regularly review the Community Guide and Code of Student Conduct for relevancy and suggestions for changes based on data, trend observations, and student feedback.

C. Crisis Intervention and Risk Management: The Coordinator of Residential Support is responsible for responding to the group and personal needs of the students in the area. Responsibilities include:

● Serve as a member of the Residence Education Leadership Team On Call staff responsible for the welfare of 5,000+ students during assigned duty weeks.

● Direct and actively respond to various crisis situations including student health (mental and physical), alleged violence, facilities concerns, etc.

● Communicate and follow up with students and parents as permitted under established policies.

● Advise individuals and groups of students with personal or academic concerns, making referrals when appropriate.

D. General Administration: The Coordinator of Residential Support is responsible for implementing effective management practices in handling the day-to-day operations of departmental resources. Specific administrative duties include:

1. Assignments

● Use StarRez software to locate information relevant to student assignments as appropriate under the guidance of the Business and Administrative Services unit of University Housing.

● Consult with Business and Administrative Services and the relevant hall leadership regarding rooming issues and room changes related to behavioral concerns.

● Respond to resident needs before referring them to the Business and Administrative Services, thus increasing student satisfaction.

2. Emergency Assistance and Safety requirements

● Maintain awareness of all safety features within each residence hall.

● Assist in the development of policies and procedures regarding emergency response in the residence halls.

3. General Administration

● Oversee the submission of any conduct and care-related semesterly and annual reports by Resident Director staff, and submit other reports as requested.

● Maintain regular office hours on a weekly basis, while being available to students and staff beyond traditional office hours.

● Follow all procedures and policies related to handling of area budget. Use established software to document and monitor account expenditures.

E. Staff Selection, Training and Development

● Assist with the recruitment and selection of Resident Advisors, Graduate staff, Resident Directors, and other professional staff positions.

● Work with the Residential Learning and the Training & Development committees to present relevant conduct and student wellness sessions during professional, graduate, and student staff trainings. Assist these committees in connecting with campus partners and co-developing their relevant sessions.

● Develop and evaluate learning outcomes for assigned level of staff training and development.

● Align development and training activities with strategic goals and objectives of the University, University Housing, and Residence Education.

F. Other responsibilities

● Supervise and support the professional development of one central Graduate Assistant. Effectively utilize this graduate staff level in the job responsibilities of both student care and conduct management. Participate in regular meetings with this staff member and provide regular feedback, including scheduled evaluations.

● Maintain an awareness of human resources practices and working collaboratively with the University Human Resources department.

● Chair and/or sit on a departmental committee or other campus committee(s) as appointed.

● Respond to any departmental needs in the absence of the Assistant or Associate Directors.

● Performing other duties as assigned by University Housing Leadership.
