SAFETY FIRST
Safety and security are paramount to University Housing’s mission. Through locked and bolted doors, key card access to some residence halls, 24-hour campus public safety officers and live-in staff to address concerns around the clock, students living on-campus can be assured their well-being is a top priority.
ADDED PRIVACY
Many of our residence halls offer separate rooms with shared living spaces and bathrooms among roommates. Each suite/ apartment layout offers students a superb level of privacy while also giving them the ability to socialize with others on their own terms.
NOT YOUR AVERAGE DORM
Residence halls at Georgia Southern University provide an experience, unlike a traditional residence hall. Freedom’s Landing boasts a large pool and on-site gym. Our staff knows living on campus is more than just having a place to sleep. Living on campus in the first year has been linked to higher GPAs, greater rates of college retention, and a higher likelihood to graduate within four years (as compared to off-campus first-year students). It is also an opportunity to grow as an individual, connect with others, learn to live independently and understand your responsibility to and impact on the community around you. Because of the importance of these benefits, the Residential Education team is committed to helping students learn to navigate the campus environment and cultivate their own personal support network. They also provide activities for students to: • Commit to Personal Exploration, Skills Development, and Lifelong Learning • Learn to Balance College Life, Overcome Stress, &
Independently Manage Conflict • Positively Contribute to a Diverse and Inclusive
Campus Community It is essential that students (and student supporters) commit to developing the skills to manage responsibilities and address conflict/challenges themselves. Examples include students filling out their own applications, addressing roommate conflicts through respectful dialogue, submitting timely work orders, etc. While this can be done with the support of family and staff – they are completed by students and not by family and staff.
