SEASON PREVIEW Coming off back-to-back runner-up conference finishes to conclude each of its last two seasons, Georgia State comes into the 2013-14 season with only one goal in mind: return to the NCAA Regionals. Each of the last two seasons have ended in heartbreak which is fresh on the minds of the seven upperclassmen twho make up a majority of this year’s team. Two years ago, the Panthers led after 45 holes at the Colonial Athletic Association Championship in Wilmington, Del., only to see UNCW squeak by for a two-stroke win and an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional. Last year, the Panthers led after two rounds of the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Muscle Shoals, Ala. Georgia State still led North Texas after 16 holes on the final day before the Mean Green got hot the final two holes and the Panthers struggled coming in. “Our team did a lot of soul searching after last year’s conference tournament,” head coach Joe Inman said. “We finished the season playing our best golf, but it was too late for a chance to receive an NCAA at-large spot. What the team realized though was how talented they were and what it will take to win a conference championship and advance to the postseason. They are not taking that for granted and want to enter this season with that chip on their shoulders from the start.” All five starters are back from last year, including freshman All-American J.J. Grey, who advanced to the NCAA Regional as an individual and lost in a playoff for the lone spot in the NCAA Championship. Grey had the most remarkable season of any freshman in Panther history and arguably one of the top seasons in the history of the program. In 13 tournaments, Grey finished the year with 12 top-25

finishes, including seven top 10s and three victories. He started the year by winning the Mason Rudolph Championship and Brickyard Collegiate, before winning again in the spring at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular. He finished the year with a 72.23 scoring average, sixth lowest in program history. “J.J. had a remarkable freshman year and we are looking forward to a great season out of him again this year,” Inman continued. “He wants to work hard to get better and become the best golfer he can be.” Five seniors return for their final year, including Tyler Gruca, Hamilton Grant Cagle, Ross Mclister, Victor Lavin and Kevin Lee. Gruca played in every event during the 2012-13 season and has yet to miss one in his three-year career. Cagle missed just one event and finished his season with a career-best tie for ninth at the Sun Belt Championship. Mclister, Lavin and Lee are no strangers to tournament

play either, combining to play in 18 events last year. “We will have great senior leadership on this team,” Inman continued. “Tyler Gruca has never missed a tournament since joining our squad as a walk-on during his freshman year. Hamilton Grant Cagle played his best golf the second half of last season and I know will be looking to get off to a great start this year. Ross, Victor and Kevin all played in several tournaments last year and know what it will take to break into the line-up this season.” Juniors Damon Stephenson and Davin White were also both key contributors last season, each playing in double-digit tournaments. White, who earned All-Sun Belt Second Team honors, was the CAA Rookie of the Year two years ago. He scored eight top-25 finishes last year and a pair of top 10s, finishing the year with a 73.94 scoring average. Stephenson had a little bit of a sophomore slump, but rebounded this summer, scoring five top-15 finishes in amateur tournaments, returning to his freshman form when he won the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. “Damon and Davin both have realized how good they can be,” Inman said. “Both have the desire to win a conference championship after falling so close the last two years. Each has figured out what they need to do to get better and have worked diligently to get there. Both of them could have special seasons this year.” Coach Inman will also welcome Nathan Mallonee to the squad, a freshman from Lexington, Ga. After an impressive prep and amateur career that saw in play in several tournaments against future teammates this summer, Inman believes Mallonee can contend for a spot in the line-up right away. “Nathan is very smart and talented player. He has worked extremely hard on his game and I think will come in and challenge for a spot in our line-up from day one. “ The Panthers will open the fall at the Rees Jones Invitational at Haig Point Golf Club on Daufuskie Island, S.C., Sept. 22-24. Georgia State has had success at the island off Hilton Head in the past, finishing second at the inaugural event in 2008. GSU will follow by returning to the Brickyard Collegiate just down I-75 in Macon, Oct. 4-6. Grey will look to defend his individual title at one of the top tournaments in the southeast. Georgia State will then host the third annual AutoTrader. com Collegiate Classic Oct. 14-15, at Berkeley Hills Country Club in nearby Duluth. The 14-team field will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by the final round on Tuesday. The Panthers finished second to in-state foe Georgia Southern in last year’s event. The Panthers will conclude the fall at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate on the East Course at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., Oct. 26-27. “We were able to put together a tough and challenging schedule this year,” Inman said. “With a talented team returning, we put forth a conscious effort to make the schedule more difficult this year. If we can step up to the challenge like we did last year, this team could be primed for a run well into May. “There are several tournaments that we have played in the past, but we also are playing some new ones in the spring that I think our players will enjoy, especially since it will allow us to see some different parts of the country.” The spring will open Feb. 17-18 at the Mobile Bay Intercol-
legiate, Crossings l i played l d at the h famed f d Magnolia M li Grove G C i Golf G lf Club. Cl b The event, hosted by Sun Belt Conference rival South Alabama, is played on one of the top 50 public courses in the country and annually hosts the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic. The Panthers will close out the month, Feb. 24-25, at the Jones Sports Invitational, making the cross country trip to Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif., for an event hosted by Pepperdine. “The team has not had a regular season flight in a few years and I felt it was the right time, especially with a large group of seniors, to make a special trip,” Inman continued. “California has some of the best golf courses in the world and I think it will be a trip that our team will not soon forget.” Georgia State will open a busy month of March at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C., March 10-11. The event, hosted by USC Aiken at the Palmetto Golf Club, saw the Panthers compete last year for the first time after a 10-year absence. The Panthers will then return to the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga. GSU last competed at the event in 2009 en route to an NCAA Regional appearance. GSU will close out the month of March (28-30) by returning to the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C. This will mark the Panthers third year in a row competing just up I-85 in one of the nation’s biggest events, annually hosting more than 20 teams. Georgia State’s final event of the regular season will come April 5-6 at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in Kannapolis, N.C. Davidson and Charlotte co-host the annual event played at The Club at Irish Creek. Following a runner-up finish at the conference championship last April, the Panthers will look to win their seventh conference title overall and first in their second year at the Sun Belt Championship in Saucier, Miss. Playing at the Grand Bear Golf Course, Georgia State will take on the league’s best, April 21-23. The NCAA Regionals will once again take place at six national sites, May 15-17. The NCAA Championship is set for Prairie Dunes Golf Club in Wichita, Kan., May 30-June 4, with the final day of stroke play and the match play portion of the event televised on the The Golf Channel. If everything comes together the way than Inman and the team hope, a television appearance might not be out of the question and the bitter taste of finishing as a runner-up might just be forgotten. 2013-14 GSU Men’s Golf

MARK P. BECKER GSU PRESIDENT
S
ince beginning his tenure as Georgia State University’s seventh president in January 2009, President Mark P. Becker has provided a vision for the future of Georgia State University and led the institution into a period of marked growth and advancement. Reflecting his vision of the urban public research university for the 21st century, the university adopted a dynamic 10-year strategic plan that has Georgia State well on its way to becoming one of the nation’s premier urban research universities. As a first generation college student who began his educational career at a community college, Becker is personally and professionally committed to ensuring that students of all economic backgrounds succeed and are given opportunities to compete on a level playing field. Under his leadership, Georgia State’s graduation rate has already increased by 10 percent, and the university is becoming a national model for undergraduate education. It leads the nation in eliminating disparities in graduation rates based on race or ethnicity, and, as one of the most diverse universities in America, is first in the nation among non-profit institutions in graduating AfricanAmerican students. By promoting the achievements of the university, making it more visible locally and nationally, and demonstrating the value of a Georgia State degree, the university under Becker’s leadership has set a series of university records for enrollment, graduation rates and total graduates. Becker has also placed high priority on ensuring financial support for students, and as a result need- and meritbased scholarship funds distributed by the university have tripled since his arrival. Becker’s passion for student success has been matched by his commitment to increasing multidisciplinary research and economic development as facilitated by the creation of new research centers, the Second Century Initiative—an ambitious program to hire one-hundred senior faculty members to serve in interdisciplinary research clusters, and an enhanced emphasis on the translation of faculty research into products and companies. This commitment has brought the university to new heights of research accomplishment, as reflected, for example, in new university records for sponsored research funding and federal research funding. Being globally connected and engaged is another important component of Becker’s
4
// 2013-14 GSU Men’s Golf
vision for the modern research university. Seeking to position Georgia State faculty and students to thrive in an increasingly complex and global landscape, Becker has worked with faculty leaders and international partners to enhance Georgia State’s global profile. In 2010 the university partnered with Beijing Language and Culture University to establish a Confucius Institute with an emphasis on business and commerce. In 2012 the institute was named a “2012 Confucius Institute of the Year.” Becker is particularly committed to developing strong partnerships with universities in rapidly growing economies. As a result, the university is working to strengthen relationships with counterparts in Brazil, China, South Africa, South Korea and Turkey. These partners are the basis for the development of new student and faculty exchanges, study abroad programs, research collaborations, executive training initiatives, government and private sector networks, and dual-degree programs. Becker has aggressively advanced the campus’ physical development and revitalization of downtown Atlanta. This has included major additions to campus housing and dining, research and academic facilities, as well as intramural and athletics facilities. In 2010 the university added football to its athletics program, and in 2013 added sand volleyball and moved to the Sun Belt Conference to advance into the Division I – FBS level of NCAA competition. Throughout his career Becker has served on boards and committees of civic, government and professional bodies. He serves, for example, on the boards of the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities, World Affairs Council of Atlanta, Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Aquarium, Georgia Research Alliance, Woodruff Arts Center, and the Atlanta Committee for Progress. He also serves on the executive committees of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education (Chair) and Central Atlanta Progress. Trained as a statistician, Becker has had a distinguished career in biostatistics and public
health sciences. For most of his professorial career he was a member of the faculty in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Michigan, where he also held appointments in the Institute for Social Research, and the Department of Statistics. He was made a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Becker has been principal investigator on research grants from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. He has published extensively in leading journals, and his doctoral students have gone on to successful careers in leading higher education institutions and with multinational companies. Becker served on multiple editorial boards, was co-editor of Sociological Methodology, and was a guest editor for Sociological Methods and Research and for the Journal of the American Statistical Association. Prior to his appointment as president of Georgia State, Becker was executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of South Carolina and dean of the School of Public Health and assistant vice president of Public Health Preparedness and Emergency Response at the University of Minnesota. From 1989 to 2000, Becker was a professor in the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health, where he also was associate dean for academic affairs. He has held academic appointments at the University of Washington, the University of Florida and Cornell University. Becker attended Harford (Md.) Community College, earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Towson State University in 1980 and his Ph.D. degree in statistics from the Pennsylvania State University in 1985. Becker grew up in Havre de Grace, Md., near Baltimore. He and his wife, Laura Voisinet, have two adult children, Matthew and Julia.

CHERYL L. LEVICK D I R E C TO R O F AT H L E T I C S
A
highly respected administrator with over two decades of experience guiding programs to the highest level of NCAA play, Cheryl L. Levick has successfully combined athletic and educational opportunities for students since the start of her career in collegiate athletics. As Georgia State’s Director of Athletics, Levick has helped boost the Panthers’ visibility on the national stage in multiple sports while adhering to the athletic department’s mission statement of shaping champions for today and leaders for tomorrow. The transformation of the Panther Athletics Department has been remarkable under Levick. Each program has been enhanced or in the case of football, built from scratch – the program had one player, two helmets and seven coaches when she arrived in 2009. Now it is set to compete at the FBS level in just its fourth season. To make that jump in schedule and talent, Levick hired Trent Miles away from his alma mater in December 2012 after he constructed an impressive – if not totally improbable – turnaround at Indiana State. Miles was not the first high-level coaching hire Levick successfully maneuvered for the Panthers as she also plucked Ron Hunter out of the state of Indiana in 2011. He quickly revitalized Georgia State basketball with its first postseason berth in a decade in his first year, and now has Panther fans eagerly awaiting the 2013-14 campaign. The significant imprint Levick has created at GSU can be seen across the entire athletic department. She has put Georgia State in position to compete for league titles right off the bat as it fully moves into the Sun Belt Conference in 2013-14. Last year, GSU squads won two SBC team crowns to put the conference on notice that the Panthers are not just moving up, but
they are ready to win from the start. Levick’s tenure in sport-crazy Atlanta has been marked by significant upgrades in facilities and fundraising. Annual giving to the Panther Athletic Club (PAC) has steadily increased by more than tenfold, and the three largest gifts in the history of GSU athletics have been secured. Construction projects have included the GSU Football Practice Complex, new facilities for strength and conditioning and sports medicine, and upgrades to every venue used by the Panthers. Arguably the most impressive project to date is the state-of-the-art facility for sand volleyball, the Panthers’ most recent sport addition. It was finished in time for the inaugural season in 2013, and is part of the ambitious Athletics Master Facilities Plan that Levick developed to address needs for every sport. Continuous success has been seen in the classroom as Georgia State student-athletes have excelled in recent years. Together, Panther student-athletes have recorded a cumulative grade-point average above 3.0 for 10 consecutive semesters while completing more than 5,000 hours of community service annually. Levick has been a significant proponent of providing opportunities for women in college sports. She started the Women, Sports and Power Luncheon to raise money for women’s sports by female donors, an event that has been successful at each of her previous stops as athletic director. The event helped raise $50,000 for GSU women’s teams in 2013. In 2011, Levick was named a “Game
THE LEVICK FAMILY: (from left) Michael Klass, Heather, Melissa, Jason Lake, Cheryl
Changer” among women in sports business by the SportsBusiness Journal, and she was twice (1998 and 1999) named one of the nation’s Top 25 Female Sports Executives by Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal. The National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) also named her Division I Athletic Administrator of the Year in 2001. Levick came to Georgia State from Maryland, where she served as chief of staff/ executive senior athletic director while overseeing the day-to-day management of the 27-sport program. That came after serving three years (2004-07) as director of athletics at Saint Louis, where she led the Billikens’ transition to the Atlantic 10 Conference and was the lead fundraiser for an $80 million on-campus arena and practice complex. In four years (2000-04) as director of athletics and recreation at Santa Clara, Levick oversaw a major renovation of the school’s basketball arena and saw the Broncos’ women’s soccer team capture the 2001 national championship. It is still the only NCAA team title in school history. Levick spent 12 years at Stanford as senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator. She was the primary administrator for 33 varsity programs that won 44 national championships and helped Stanford to six straight Sears Cup titles. She also served as assistant commissioner of the Pac-10 Conference, assistant director of communications and women’s programs at the NCAA, women’s gymnastics coach and associate athletic director at Slippery Rock, and assistant gymnastics coach and synchronized swim coach at Indiana. Levick began her career at Pattonville Senior High School in St. Louis, Mo., coaching gymnastics and women’s track. Levick is a 1974 graduate of Missouri, and holds a master’s degree in athletic administration from Indiana. She has two daughters: Heather and husband Michael Klass with grandson Brady born in July 2013; and Melissa and husband Jason Lake.

n institution on the rise, Georgia State University has a tradition of progress that is reflected in its rising stature, growing campus and broadening influence. The Georgia State Athletics Master Facilities Plan is a blueprint for success and growth for GSU Athletics that will allow every Panther program to compete at the highest level. By building top-notch venues for every sport, Georgia State can recruit the best student-athletes and help them develop into champions. These new facilities will also enhance the game day experience for students, alumni and fans. The centerpiece of the Athletics Master Plan is the transformation of the GSU Sports Arena (left), the home of Panther basketball and volleyball as well as the athletics offices.
The Sand Volleyball Complex (far right), opened in 2013. The Master Plan also includes new venues for baseball (right), softball, soccer and court volleyball. 2013-14 GSU M Men’s ’ G Golf

HEAD COACH
Long-time professional golfer Joe Inman, who has enjoyed success on the PGA and Champions Tours, currently is entering his sixth year as head coach of the Georgia State men’s program. Inman has led the Panthers to back-to-back conference runner-up finishes and helped Jonathan Grey become the sixth Panther in program history to earn All-America honors last year. In just his first year, Inman took the Panthers to the NCAA Regional, as the Panthers reached the postseason for the 10th time in 12 years. Inman led Georgia State to a sixthplace finish, just one position shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championship. Georgia State earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional after finishing second at the CAA Championship in a one-hole playoff to VCU. Under Inman, three Panthers earned all-conference mentions, including Tom Sherreard, who earned the CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, and freshman Allen John, who finished as a medalist at the CAA Championship and earned rookie-of-the-year honors. In his second season, Inman watched as Sherreard earned his third straight CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor and advanced as an individual to the NCAA Regional after earning All-CAA accolades. His squad finished the fall with the highest GPA among all GSU male squads. In this third year, Inman led a squad that finished the year with three freshmen in the lineup at the season-ending CAA Championship. Seven members of the team earned CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award honors. During the 2011-12 season, the squad peaked at the right time, finishing second in its final CAA Championship. Inman watched as Davin White earned CAA Rookie-of-theYear honors after another freshman, Damon Stephenson, took low medalist honors at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, an event GSU won by six strokes. He also led the efforts for the highly successful AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club. The event was a great success as teams raved and it now has quickly become one of the top tournaments in the south-
8
east each fall. Last year, Inman led the Panthers Panther to a second-place finish, including a win over top-10 ranked Georgia at Berkeley Hills. G GSU finished the year among the top 75 teams in the country after its second-place finish at the Sun Belt Championship. Spanning more than 25-years, Inman’s pro playing career includes four victories, one on the PGA Tour and three on the Champions Tour. He had nearly 100 top-25 finishes on each circuit, and his career earnings total over $5 million. Inman’s career on the PGA Tour included playing in 329 events, highlighted by a victory in the 1976 Kemper Open. He also posted three runner-up finishes and four third-place showings on the PGA Tour, along with 32 top 10-performances and 98 finishes in the top 25. After working as a sales representative for PING from 1989-97, Inman began playing on the Champions Tour in 1998. He owns three tournament titles, winning the Pacific Bell Open in 1998 and 1999 and the SBC Open in 2000. He also compiled two runner-up finishes, three third-place efforts, 33 top-10 showings and 88 top-25 performances while missing only seven cuts in 276 events on the senior circuit. Inman has been heavily involved in community and charitable activities, particularly in the Atlanta area. Former Georgia State men’s golfer Jared Cagle was named the Panthers’ assistant coach on July 1, 2013. Cagle played for Georgia State from 2007-12, graduating with a degree in psychology before earning his master’s in sports administration. The two-time CAA All-Academic honoree saw action in 25 tournaments for the Panthers with his best result a thirdplace finish at the 2010 Berkeley Hills Invitational. Even when not in the lineup, Cagle served as team captain and as a mentor to younger teammates, including his brother Grant, who will be a senior on the team this year. “Jared just seemed like a natural fit to become our next assistant coach,” GSU coach Inman said. “Jared is a hard worker and is already well respected by members of the team and the athletics department
staff. I know that he is going to come in and help us reach our ultimate goal of returning to the NCAA Championship.” Cagle was on a pair of conference runner-up teams and helped GSU win the 2012 Wexford Planation Intercollegiate. Individually, his most memorable moment came at the 2009 Turtle Bay Resort Invitational in Hawaii, shooting a final-round 68 that included an opening nine 31 that led to a career-best tournament score finish. Cagle will oversee all aspects of travel, practices and budget for the Panthers. His younger brother, Grant, will be a senior on the team this year and is coming off a career-best finish in last year’s Sun Belt Conference Championship.

Captured just before the teams’ private jet take-off to the National Championship in Baltimore, Md. in 2007. Featured are Derek Oakey (frontleft), Morgan Nix (middle-left), Tom Sherreard (back-left), Joel Sjoholm (middle-right) and Ben Taylor (back-right).
Over the last 14 years, Georgia State has appeared in four NCAA Championships, to go along with 10 regional appearances with another two appearances made by individuals. The team made back-to-back appearances in 2004 and 2005, with its most recent appearance coming in 2007. The Panthers have finished in the top 15 in two of their four appearances with their best finish coming in 2004 as the team tied for 11th place. Georgia State was one of just seven teams to finish 15th or better at both the 2004 and 2005 NCAA Championships. Joining the Panthers were Georgia Tech, Georgia, Washington, Kentucky, BYU and Oklahoma State. In 2008, Joel Sjoholm qualified for the championship as an individual and finished in 13th place, the best individual finish by a Panther golfer at the championship. Sjoholm earn first-team AllAmerica honors and became the first student-athlete in the history of Georgia State athletics to do so.

conference championships 2008, 2006 Colonial Athletic Association Champions 2005 Atlantic Sun Champions 2001, 2000, 1998 TAAC Champions
Over the last 14 years, the Panthers have won six conference championships, spanning the Trans America Athletic Conference which became the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2001, to the Colonial Athletic Association which the squad joined for its first of two championships in 2006. During that time, four Panthers have earned low medallist honors at the conference championship, most recently Allen John during the 2009 CAA Championship at Callaway Gardens. John led the team to a tie for first place with VCU, before falling to the Rams on the first play-off hole. John’s title assured the Panthers of at least one individual victory in six straight years, a streak that was finally broken during the 2009-10 season. An individual has won an event in all but one year going back to 1995. John joined Joel Sjoholm (2008), Mark Haastrup (2006) and Allen Thompson (2001) as conference individual champions. The Panthers joined the Sun Belt Conference for the 2012-13 season. The 2014 championship will be played on the Grand Bear Course in Saucier, Miss., April 2123.

2014 Sun Belt Championship April 21-23 Saucier, Miss. Grand Bear Course Towering pines, natural cypress wetlands, secluded fairways and impeccably manicured greens surround Grand Bear. This 18-hole, Jack Nicklaus Signature Course has the feel of Augusta and the excitement of Pinehurst. A wide array of hole layouts makes Grand Bear challenging, yet enjoyable for all. From the Grizzly Bear tees at 7,204 yards, the challenge is firm but fair; from the Teddy Bear tees at 4,802 yards, the layout is downright cuddly. The outgoing nine, which skirts the Little Biloxi River has superior golf holes, but the back nine is truly grand. Cypress wetlands rimmed with live oaks, gum trees, and old magnolias give way to the Big Biloxi River, its brilliant white-sand banks girding three of the last four holes.
AUTOTRADER.COM COLLEGIATE CLASSIC 2012 TEAM RESULTS
The Third Annual AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic will take place at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga., Oct. 13-15, 2013. A total of 14 teams and 78 individuals will compete at one of the premier courses in the Atlanta area. North Florida took home the inaugural title, with Georgia Southern winning the second event. South Carolina’s Dykes Harbin took home low medallist honors by two strokes over a group of three golfers last year after Harold Varner of East Carolina took the title in the first year of the event. Designed by Gary Player and Ron Kirby, the Berkeley Hills Country Club 18-hole golf course is playable yet challenging, stretching nearly 6,700 yards from the back tees. With nearly 50 years of history, the course features mature, tree-lined fairways and a rolling terrain. It is a “core” golf course, meaning you are not surrounded and playing past a multitude of homes like many modern subdivision courses. Many major Georgia State Golf Association events has been held here. Local PGA Tour players like Stewart Cink have been known to practice on them prior to the Masters each year. The greens are Champion Bermuda Ultradwarf grass, with most of the greens well protected by relatively deep bunkers, making a deft sand game necessary for those who attempt to challenge tucked pin positions.

eorgia State has the honor of playing some of the very best courses in the Atlanta area. The Panthers have enjoyed Berkeley Hills Country Club as its home for the last three years and Eagle’s Landing Country Club for more than 10. Berkeley Hills Golf Club serves as host to the men’s golf team’s annual tournament, the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic. The Panthers will host the event for the third straight year in October. The private club is one of the top courses in the Atlanta area and was designed by Arthur Davis, Ron Kirby and Gary Player. Currently, U.S. Open champion and Ryder Cup member Stewart Cink calls the course home.
The women’s golf team has hosted the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing for more than 10 years. The course used to host the LPGA’s Chickfil-a Charity Classic, which many considered to be the Tour’s fifth-major. PANTHER BOOSTER CLUB Friends of Panther Golf: The Panther Golf Club has been a major factor in our teams’ success over the years and as I begin my sixth year, I hope that I can continue to build it into one of the best booster clubs in the country. However, I cannot accomplish our goal of bringing championships to Georgia State without your help. With 10 NCAA Regional appearances in the last 14 years, as well as six conference championships, the Georgia State men’s golf program has become one that is synonymous with success and excellence. From the first team to reach the NCAA Regionals in 1999 to our four NCAA Championship appearances, we are going to continue to strive to bring in the best recruits that will allow is to reach our ultimate goals. As I have in the past, I must give a lot of credit to Trey Jones, Matt Clark and Kevin Propst who came before me. They set the foundation and developed the framework for what I hope to continue to build. In my first few years we accomplished a lot, but we still have a long way to go. We held two fundraising dinners with Hall of Famers, set up an agreement with Berkeley Hills Country Club, hired a full time assistant coach, and with your help, purchased a Mercedes Sprinter Van for the golf team. We are now working toward building a GSU golf practice facility and setting ourselves up for an excellent future. Several major donors have already stepped forward and I believe this can become a reality in the near future.

Two years ago, we launched the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club. AutoTrader.com allowed us to put on a first class event that will return again for the third edition in 2013. Personally, I know what it takes to help our young men get to the next level, but without the resources, including things like a practice facility, it will truly be very difficult. We can be good, but it will be difficult to be great. We have a solid nucleus of young men this year who are looking to bring a seventh conference championship to Georgia State along with an 11th NCAA Regional appearance. I can honestly say from day one of the 2013-14 season, we have improved tremendously. We have recruited excellent young players and students for our 2014 class. The future is bright for Georgia State Golf and we want you to be a part of it. As I enter my six year here at Georgia State, I look forward to continue to meet each and every one of you that has supported the program. I hope that you will continue to support what we are building here, making Panther golf one of the best in the country! If I can ever answer any of your questions, please do not hesitate to call me in my office (404-413-4065) or on my cell (770-331-5962). I want as much interaction and discussion with our fans and booster club as possible, as that is how we will achieve our best results! Sincerely, Coach Joe Inman
