What are pesticides?

Pesticides, as defined by Guam Law, is any substance or mixture intended for preventing, destroying, repelling or mitigating a pest.

This includes pesticides used when growing food but also other commonly used items like some cleaners, disinfectants and even mosquito repellants.

Why are pesticides used?

Pesticides help control insects, weeds or other pests. Mitigating pests helps farmers protect crops, which can the amount of food grown and stored.

Sometimes foods carry traces of pesticides that were used while growing or storing the crops. Other pesticides can be found in soils.
