DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
Welcome to the 6th Annual President’s Golf Tournament in support of athletic scholarships. Once again we are fortunate to host the tournament at the spectacular Cutten Fields Golf Course. This year the University of Guelph celebrates its 50th Anniversary. The Department of Athletics is pleased to be a part of the celebrations and the golf shirt that you have received commemorates this event. Once again, the proceeds from this tournament will be used to provide athletic scholarships for a number of student athletes. These scholarships assist athletes with the cost of their education and will reduce their debt upon graduation. It is very important that we provide these scholarships, something that we could not do without the great support of numerous corporate sponsors and individual donors. Thank you for your commitment to this tournament and I hope that you have a great day of Golf. Best Wishes, Tom Kendall Director of Athletics
INTRODUCING... A truly innovative project in partnership with Wellington Brewery, this is GRYPHON GOLD, and you are some of the FIRST folks to get a taste! Created to celebrate the University of Guelph’s 50th Anniversary, this crisp and refreshing craft-brewed lager is best paired with good times and great friends. Highlighting iconic landmarks and symbols at the University, the can was designed to celebrate what it means to be a Gryphon - past, present and future! Gryphon Gold is brewed locally at Guelph’s own Wellington Brewery using 100% Canadian barley malt and traditional Czech style saaz hops. Like the mythical Gryphon with the body of a lion and wings of an eagle, this delicious lager is truly legendary. The Gryphons are the first CIS School to develop their own branded beer, with a percentage of all sales going toward Athletic Scholarships for Gryphon Athletes. Available in cans at local LCBO, the Wellington Brewery Retail outlet, local pubs and restaurants, Brass Taps & in draft form at select local pubs.

Dan’s father is a doctor who practices in and around Dan’s hometown. Dan’s father and grandfather have been tremendous influences on Dan becoming such an excellent athlete. Dan’s father was a standout basketball player at Seton Hall and his grandfather was an All-American basketball player at Texas A&M. Dan learned to love hockey at a young age, attending the Carolina Hurricanes games. While his family loved basketball Dan became a hockey player and eventually moved away from home as a teenager to pursue his dream to play at the highest level. He played for the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League and finished his Junior hockey career with the Ottawa 67’s of the O.H.L. Since coming to the University Dan has been recognized by his teammates and coaches as a tremendous leader on and off the ice and was named as the team captain this past season. Dan came to the University prepared for the commitment of combining his busy academic schedule with rigorous on and off ice training schedule that is required to play. He wisely took courses from the University while playing Junior hockey so he would be ahead academically upon his arrival to campus and has accelerated in the BComm.MKMN program. He was awarded a hockey scholarship in his first season for having an incoming average well above 80%. Beyond the rink and classroom, he is very involved in the community hockey school and assists with the Coach4Food program in Guelph which assists less fortunate families with food supplies.
