State-Of-The-Art Field & Track Alumni Stadium got a facelift in 2012. The expansion and renovation project included a new synthetic turf field and an international-calibre eight-lane track. This Revolution turf product from Field Turf is the number one football field in North America and the main choice of professional teams. The alternating greens and distinctive red and black checkerboard end zones will be much talked about.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The community of Guelph and Gryphon Football are growing stronger together year after year. Gryphon Football student-athletes and staff are constantly challenging each other to give back to the City of Guelph and football communities across Canada. This football program is made up of players and coaches from across Canada, that all give back to their respective communities in a positive capacity. Locally, Gryphon football student-athletes dedicate their time to the Upper Grand District School Board and the Wellington Catholic District School Board. Our student-athletes lead programs such as flag football clinics, high school football courses, power of positive choice days and participate in boardwide conferences such as RISE (Recognizing Internal Strength for Empowerment) which allows players to connect with and mentor younger students. As well, the Gryphons donated one of their post-practice dinners to the Guelph Drop-In Centre in support of the Athletic Departmentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s United Way Campaign. In addition, several Gryphons participated in the Hope Houseâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s second annual Souperlicious lunch fundraiser which raised $3,700 for the organization. The Gryphons are also a fixture in local community activities. Veterans Fraser Speakman, Robert Farquharson, Jeff Finley, Dylan Husty, and Jacob Harpell are building upon what alumni Zach Androschuk, Jarryd Baines, Luke Nangle, Taylor Palmer, and Mackenzie McLaughlin have shown in how to give back. Support of local initiatives such as the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl-a-Thon and Wheels in Motion are yearly activities that Gryphons participate in. A fundraising campaign that is close to Gryphon Football hearts is the Do it For Dan Campaign. The campaign is named after Gryphon Football friend Dan Edwards and began in 2007, raises money for spinal cord injuries. This past May, Dave Rossetti, Pat McGrath, Tristan Doughlin, and Andrew Graham planted the Gryphon flag on a global level participating in the Me to We mission to Ecuador. The four Gryphons built a school and assisted with other development projects. They experienced remarkable biodiversity and gained first-hand experience with environmental and development issues, as well as built lifelong skills through leadership and global development workshops. Moving forward, this will be a yearly mission for four Gryphon Football players.

Gryphon Football 2014 - 2015

Each summer, Alumni Stadium opens its doors to hundreds of youth within the community who come to participate in week-long flag football camps run by Gryphon Football players and staff. Growing more popular is the Elite High School Football Camp in August. This camp is run by Gryphon coaches and players and provides high school football players to experience University level coaching and understand what it takes to be a Gryphon. This past summer the Guelph Bears of the OFC (Ontario Football Conference) joined forces with the Gryphons and became the Guelph Junior Varsity and Varsity Gryphons. This major alignment has allowed Gryphon Football players to volunteer as coaches throughout the summer. The players are also involved in volunteering their time at Guelph Minor Football practices to teach the fundamentals of the game. Our coaches are also active in surrounding communities through their participation in various clinics and organizations including: Brantford Bison Coaching Clinic, Hamilton Ironmen Junior Varsity Football Program, Burlington Stampeders Football Program, Mississauga Warriors Football Program, Halton Cowboys Football Program, OLMC Player Clinic, Gryphon Offensive Line Clinic, Guest Speakers at Canada Football Chat Coaches Clinic, Learning Facilitators for the NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program), Provincial Coaching Staff for the OFA (Ontario Football Alliance), National Coaching Staff for Football Canada, Regional All-Star Game Coaching Staff, and supporters of BC High School Football Association.

The Gryphon Football High Performance Training Centre was officially opened in January 2011. Located on the second floor of Alumni Stadium, the Performance Centre is a state-of-the art athletic performance facility. Athletic Therapy Treatment The University of Guelph Football Program offers a unique facility to our student athletes. Alumni Stadium houses a state of the art Athletic Therapy treatment facility, which is directly connected to the Gryphons’ locker room.

The room boasts two hot/cold tubs, along with access to a Certified Athletic Therapist for treatment. The room has been newly renovated to include brand new modalities inclusive of machines, brand new treatment plinths, and ample storage space. The space offers an area for the athletes to be rehabilitated from injury, including therapeutic exercise and manual techniques. Athletes have access to this facility and treatment opportunities year round. The proximity and ease of booking appointments encourages compliance and a faster return to activity. gryphons.ca

SEASON OUTLOOK In the last three years our coaching staff has taken the football program from two wins to the OUA Finals. They have changed the culture and energized a fan base. The next challenge: sustaining success and of course, winning a Yates and Vanier Cup title. In 2013, the season was another year of continued progress for the Gryphons with back-toback 7-1 regular seasons. There were flashes of brilliance seen, but still mixed in were some challenges and inconsistency. This fall, the Gryphons will be looking to turn the corner and take the next step. “In the last two years we have won more league games than any other OUA team but we have not yet achieved our goal of winning the Yates Cup,” commented head coach Stu Lang. “Our dedicated coaching staff which began four years ago has a team filled with our recruits, so we are excited about finally breaking through. Our players, led by a dedicated

group of seniors, want to ‘finish’ the journey.”

In 2014, the Gryphons will be looking to turn the corner and take the next step. Two years in a row they have performed well in the regular season which has set the expectations high. Now in the fourth year with the same offence fans should see the playbook opening up and timing looking even better. The running game will continue to be dynamic with the duo of veteran Rob Farquharson and rookie Johnny Augustine now having experience in the CIS. Quarterback Jazz Lindsey is showing that he is continuing to grow and

The Gryphons will also be dealing with the graduation of a great class of veterans, most noticeably at offensive line and receiver. Four dressers at each spot graduated this past season including Jake Piotrowski and Cameron Thorn who have both signed with CFL teams. At receiver, Dillon Dimitroff and Saxon Lindsey will be missed as great leaders and go-to playmakers.

Key returning players at the receiver spot will be Alex Charette and A’dre Fraser. Both of these players started last year and will have to step up as the new leaders of the receiving core. Fraser has big play ability and will be able to stretch the field vertically even better than previous seasons. Charette has grown into a very dynamic weapon with both size and speed. He showed that he can be an every-down receiver with play ability and the grittiness to block anyone on the field. The coaching staff expect Charette to become a leader this season after a great showing at the East-West All-star game in May. Adding depth to this receiving core will be a combination of Marcus Joseph, Trey Gervais and Quincey Reid who add size and speed to a group that has shrunk due to graduation this off-season. On the offensive line the return of Matthew Nesbitt, Cam Wilhelm and Kyle Fraser to anchor the OL will be crucial. These players have been seeing time since being freshman and are now the leaders on that big OL. Also on the offensive line, Arran MacRae and Andrew Pickett were two highly recruited prospects and will look to come in and push right away to play. The pair are both a great combination of size and athleticism at their position. Lastly at the QB spot, James Roberts comes with a long resume. He has represented his province on three occasions, and had incredible success at both the high school and OVFL level.

Defence: The 2013 defence entered the season with

many new faces and a lot of questions about whether these new players could repeat the same type of performance as the veterans showed the previous season. After holding opponents to a mere 332 yards per game, good enough for first in the OUA and fifth in the CIS, and 17 points allowed per game, the majority of those questions have been answered. Taylor Palmer and Vince Lonsdale are the only graduating seniors from that young group, which sets expectations very high for 2014. Veteran Iain Hutchison will be looked to for leadership in the backend, while Tristan Doughlin has emerged as a huge playmaker and physical presence at free safety. Middle linebacker John Rush returns after missing six games in 2013, having been sidelined by a knee injury. Third-year linebacker Andrew Graham has been doing an excellent job in Rush’s absence and is a force in the middle. Graham was named a 2013 OUA all-star after recording 17 solo tackles, 2.5 sacks and one interception.

Special Forces:

In the past three seasons, the Gryphons have produced five OUA all-stars from the special forces unit. Their coverage dominance and multiple return threats should continue to create havoc for their opponents. Leading the way in the return game for the Gryphons will be A’dre Fraser and Alex Charette, while Andrew Graham, James Ingram, Jacob Harpell and Fraser Speakman will anchor the line play. All six of these players had an outstanding 2013 campaign. Look for the Ferarro brothers, fourth year Daniel and first year Gabriel, to solidify the kicking game in 2014. One of the country’s best long snappers, Dan MacDonald should continue to provide certain ball security. Jacob Scarfone was the most versatile player last year; kicking, running fakes, and recovering pooch kicks. This second year player has the instincts and athleticism to be a game changer in 2014. The Gryphon coverage and block units were very effective in the battle for field position last year and the attacking mentality will continue in the 2014 season. Incoming Team Canada recruits Nick Parisotto and Royce Metchie should see the field early and often for the special forces.

Led by a possible 16 returning starters and one of the best recruiting classes in recent history, the Gryphons enter the season with highly attainable hopes of a Yates Cup title.

COACHING STAFF

During his university playing days, Lang was a fouryear starter with the Queen’s Gaels in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS). He was a member of the 1970 Yates Cup Championship team, losing in the western playoffs to the University of Manitoba, the eventual Vanier Cup winners. During his time at Queen’s he was also a threeyear starter with the Gaels Hockey Team and the runner-up for the 1974 Jenkins Trophy award, an honour bestowed to the University’s top athletic and scholastic student-athlete. Lang earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Queen’s in 1974. He was also named to the Queen’s Sports Hall of Fame. Lang also had a very successful playing career for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1974-1981. He played slot-back for eight seasons, going to the Grey Cup seven times and winning the championship five times (1975, 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981). He was named the team’s 1974 Rookie of the Year and received the Canada Packers Award for Fan’s Favourite Player in 1977. In 1976 he played in the CFL All-Star game.

STU LANG Head Coach

Stu Lang enters his fifth season as the head coach of the Guelph Gryphons Football team; taking over the program in 2010 from Kyle Walters. In 2013 he coached the squad to a regular season 7-1 record. Over the past two years, Guelph has won more league games than any other OUA team. In 2009 Lang served as the receivers’ coach with the Gryphons, coaching a veteran group that included OUA all-star Jedd Gardner, an eventual draft pick of the Toronto Argos. To date he has helped build a state-of-the-art High Performance Training Centre in Alumni Stadium for his football players, plus a new artificial turf football field, video display scoreboard and field lighting. It’s been Lang’s goal from the start to build the best football program in the OUA. Once again the facilities, academic support, and his coaching staff have attracted a talented group of rookies from across Canada. Prior to coming to Guelph, Lang spent two seasons as the receivers’ coach at Upper Canada College (UCC), his former high school. During that time he was chair of their Athletic Task Force, and a member of the Principal’s Advisory Committee and Financial Committee. He also donated the funds to build a new SAQ (Speed, Agility and Quickness) Performance Centre for their athletes. In 2013 he created the Lang Scholarship Program at UCC.

Gryphon Football 2014 - 2015

In addition to his on-field experiences and connection to the University of Guelph football team, Lang brings with him a wealth of leadership and strategic management skills as a former senior business executive from CCL Industries. Most recently, from 2002-2005, he served as the President of CCL Label, Europe and is still active as a Director on the company’s Board. CCL Industries Inc., a Lang family controlled business, is a world-class specialty packaging company headquartered in Toronto. Lang and his wife, Kim, live on a horse farm in Puslinch, Ontario, just outside Guelph. Kim serves on the Pet Trust Board, the fundraising arm of the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), and is the 2014 Artistic Director of the Eden Mills Writers’ Festival.

Offensive Coordinator

Todd Galloway joins the Gryphons coaching staff for his fourth season as the Offensive Coordinator in 2014. Over the last three seasons the offence has seen a lot of change. In the past two years, he has helped lead the Gryphons to a 14-2 regular season record, and 2-2 in the playoffs including a Yates Cup appearance in 2012. Galloway has over a decade of diverse coaching experience at various levels including the CIS, high school and varsity leagues. Prior to Guelph, he spent five years coaching in Nova Scotia with the St. Mary’s Huskies, Sackville High School and the Metro Mustangs of the Nova Scotia Varsity Football League (NSVFL). He got his start in coaching at his alma mater Wilfrid Laurier University. He spent three seasons after graduating (2004-2006), serving as the receivers coach and assistant offensive coach. He was a member of the coaching staff during the Golden Hawks Vanier Cup title in 2005. During that time he also served as the offensive coordinator in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) for the Guelph Bears (now Junior Gryphons) in 2006. He is a native of Kitchener, Ont., and played wide receiver at Laurier (2000-2003) while earning an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Biology. Galloway lives in Guelph with his wife Trudy and their 2-year old son Grady.

KEVIN MacNEILL Defensive Coordinator

Kevin MacNeill enters his fifth season as Defensive Coordinator with the Guelph Gryphons. Coach MacNeill brings two conferences of CIS experience to the football staff, having coached in the OUA and CanWest conferences before joining the Gryphon family.

TODD GALLOWAY

Before coming to Guelph, he spent two seasons coaching at UBC as the Recruitment Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator and Linebacker Coach. Prior to that, he coached at his alma mater, Wilfrid Laurier University, from 2004-2007 as a Linebacker Coach and Special Teams Coach. MacNeill was a part of the 2005 coaching staff that won the Vanier Cup. He has also served as the Head Coach of the Guelph Bears from 2005-2006 winning the Coach of the Year Award in 2006. The Bears went on to two semi-final appearances with MacNeill at the helm. He’s been a volunteer coach with the Jr Varsity Preds winning the OVFL Championship in 2001, Guelph Bears 2002-2006, Cambridge Lions in 2012, and he returned to the Guelph Bears in 2013. For the last three years, Coach MacNeill has coached the GTA Rising Stars serving as both Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Quality Control Coach. In addition, he was recently invited to serve as the Linebacker Coach for Team Canada’s Jr National Team that will compete in the 2014 World Championship. As a player, MacNeill had an outstanding five-year career from 1999-2003 at Laurier. He was named a CIS second team All-Canadian linebacker in 2003 and was an OUA all-star in 2001 and 2003. In 2001 he was selected as the Golden Hawk Football Most Valuable Player. He was later signed by the Montreal Allouettes. MacNeill graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications (2003). He currently lives in Guelph with his wife Monica and has a five year-old daughter named Hailey. gryphons.ca

Steve Viveiros

Assistant Running Backs Coach

Steve is entering his 12th season with the Gryphon football program. For his first seven years he served as the linebacker coach. He has since switched to offence and has been a running back coach for the last four seasons. Viveiros is a graduate of McMaster University where he played linebacker from 19901995. During his time at McMaster, he was an OUA all-star, team captain for four years, team MVP for three years and was named to the team of the decade. In his personal life, he is an elementary school principal at Willow Rd. P.S. He has been in the role as a school administrator for the last eight years. His role in education has been of benefit to the football program with insights in developing effective coaching and to help the athletes become better students of the game. Viveiros is married to his wife. Ainslie and has three boys: Jack, Ben, and Cam.

Bill Brown

Special Forces Coordinator and Recruiting & Football Development

Bill Brown returns for his 14th season as a member of the Gryphons coaching staff. This is his fourth season as the Special Forces Coordinator. The Gryphons had five OUA all-stars come from special teams in the last three years. As the Recruiting and Development Coordinator he attracts the best athletes, coaches and alumni support to UofG. Brownâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s other experience in the past with the Gryphons has included coaching the defensive backs for eight years and coordinating the defence for two years. Outside of coaching for the Gryphons, he has coached for Team Ontario for seven seasons, coaching in the Canada Cup and the International Bowl. He won OFA Major Coach of the Year in 2013.

Brown has also coached the Guelph Bears in the OVFL for four years. He has been the Defensive Coordinator for Bishop MacDonell and St. James HS in Guelph. As a player for the Gryphons from 1994-1998, he was named the 1994 Gryphon Rookie of the Year and a 1996 OUAA All-Star. Brown was a member of the 1996 Yates Cup Championship team and was awarded the 1998 Gryphon Defensive Player of the Year award. He teaches Physical Education to grade 7/8 students at John Galt Public School in Guelph.

Neil Lumsden Backs Coach

Assistant to Head Coach & Running

Neil Lumsden began his journey with the Guelph Gryphons Football team as a guest coach for the running backs in 2010 and now moves into his third official season as Running Backs coach. Lumsdenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s past makes him a great mentor to the players. He started his career at the University of Ottawa as a running back & kicker where he was a 4-time OUA all-star & 3-time All-Canadian. He then moved on to his storied football career in the Canadian Football League (CFL), playing from 19761985 with the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Edmonton Eskimos. In 1976 he was the Eastern Conference nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie and a CFL Eastern All Star. Lumsden has won three Grey Cups as a player with the Eskimos and his fourth ring as the General Manager and Director of Business Operations of the 1999 Tiger-Cats. From 2001-2004 he was a regional scout for the Edmonton Eskimos while coaching Sr high school football in Burlington. He is a member of the University of Ottawa Hall of Fame, the OUA Hall of Fame and the City of Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame. In 2013 he was awarded the Champion of Sport by the Sport Alliance in Burlington. Lumsden has coached football for over 30 years at all levels and most recently was the head coach of the Burlington Varsity Stampeders winning the OFC championship in 2008 and 2010. In 2011 he was the head coach of the Burlington Braves in the CJFL before joining the Gryphon football staff. Lumsden is also honored to be a member of the 2014 class that is being inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in September. He lives in Burlington with his wife Donna, their daughter Kristin lives and works in Toronto as a makeup artist and son Jesse who lives in Calgary and was a member of 2014 Canadian Olympic Bobsled team competing in his second Olympics in Russia.

Defensive Assistant Coach, Video Coordinator & Recruiting Manager

Mike Aloisio enters his third season with the Gryphons as a Defensive Assistant and second year as the Video Coordinator. He joined the Gryphons in 2012 as a Graduate Assistant while completing a Bachelor of Sports Management from Brock University (2010-2013). He spent three seasons (20102012) coaching with the Hamilton Ironmen Junior Varsity program in the OVFL, coaching Special Forces and Defensive Quality Control. Aloisio is a native of Hamilton, Ontario and now lives in Guelph with his wife Becky and their beagle Diesel.

Hank Ilesic

Kicking Coach

Hank Ilesic joins the Gryphon program for his second season. During his rookie season in 1977 while still attending high school in Edmonton at the tender age of seventeen, became the youngest player in the history of professional football. His specialty on the field was punting for the CFL Edmonton Eskimos during the glory years from 1978-82, winning five Grey Cup Championships. Traded to Toronto in 1983, he contributed yet to another Grey Cup for the Argonauts and became the only player to win six consecutive Championships. In 1989 he played for the NFL San Diego Chargers, and in the Los Angeles Rams in 1990 before returning to the Toronto Argonauts in 1991 to win a seventh Grey Cup. Ilesic retired after the 1993 season, after taking a year off of football, he played for the Hamilton Tiger-cats in 1995. Enjoying retirement for two seasons, the B.C. Lions lured him out of retirement and he played the remaining four games of the regular season and the Western Final. In 2001, after being inactive from football for three seasons, the Edmonton Eskimos came knocking on the door. Nicknamed, â&#x20AC;&#x153;Thunderfootâ&#x20AC;?, he played the remaining three regular season games and the Western Final. Ilesic joins legendary Lui Passaglia as the only two players in the history of professional football that spans a playing career in four consecutive decades.

Zach Pollari

Assistant Offensive Line Coach

Zachary Pollari is joining the Guelph Gryphons football team for his fourth season with the Offensive Line. He was born in Billings, MT USA, but grew up and went to school in Guelph attending Centennial CVI.

Mike Aloisio

Pollari attended the University of Western Ontario where he obtained a degree in Criminology while playing for the Mustangs football team. In 2009 he was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts and enjoyed a short stint there before returning to Western to complete his fifth year of eligibility and obtain his Education Degree. Following this season, Pollari was re-signed by the Argonauts but suffered an injury at the start of the season and was released. The following summer, he played for Team Canada in the 2011 IFAF World Championship in Austria and was selected as a first team All-Star. Pollari lives in Guelph and is a teacher in the Upper Grand District School Board.

Steven Frake

Assistant Receivers Coach

Steven Frake joins the Gryphons coaching staff for his second season as the Assistant Receivers Coach. He had spent the previous portion of his coaching career with his former alma mater, Wilfrid Laurier University, serving as the Receivers Coach for seven years. Prior to that he had a great five-year playing career for the Golden Hawks from 2000-2004 as both a receiver and a defensive back. In 2004 Frake was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes as a defensive back. He graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Kinesiology.

Brian Cluff

Defensive Line Coach

The 2014 season will mark Coach Cluff’s 30th year of University Football. Coach Cluff will once again be coaching the Defensive Line. He has also coached the defensive line with Team Ontario at the Canada Cup and in 2013 was in Texas coaching the defensive line for Team Ontario Selects vs. Team USA in the International Bowl. In 2011 Cluff was the recipient of the “OUA Assistant Coach of the Year Award” and was also the winner at the National Level of the “Gino Fracas Award” as the CIS Assistant Coach of the Year. He was also awarded the prestigious University of Guelph Dr. John T. Powell Award in 2011-12. As a Gryphon Football Alumni he was a five-year starter and played defensive end from 1982-1986. Cluff was a member of the 1984 Vanier Cup National Championship Team and was drafted in the CFL by the Toronto Argonauts in 1986. He graduated from Guelph with a Bachelor of Arts in 1987 and received his Bachelor of Education Degree from Mount Allison University in 1989. He is a NCCP certified coach and has presented at numerous football clinics and camps over the years. Cluff teaches Physical and Health Education at Guelph Collegiate High School and lives in Guelph with his wife Sue Knox and has a daughter Alexandra.

Mike MacDonald Offensive Line Coach Mike MacDonald is entering his fifth year coaching the Offensive Line at the University of Guelph. He has also had six years coaching experience as the Offensive Line Coach at Notre Dame High School in Burlington, Ont. and fourteen years coaching in the Burlington Stampeder Rep Program as a Head Coach and Offensive Line coach. He has served as an offensive line coach for Team Ontario and many all-star teams. MacDonald received the Ontario Football Alliance Senior Coach of the Year award in 2007. He has won two Ontario Tier 1 Provincial High School Championships and nine Provincial Rep Football Championships. MacDonald has a BSc. in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo where he played football and was the team captain. He is a retired member of the RCMP having served for 27 years in various parts of Canada.

Adam Grandy Linebackers Coach

Assistant Defensive Coordinator &

Adam Grandy is entering his third year with the Gryphons as a Linebacker Coach and Assistant Defensive Coordinator. A graduate of McMaster University, he was a linebacker for the Marauders and a member of the 2003 Yates Cup Championship team. He has spent the last nine years coaching the Burlington Stampeders and is currently the Head Coach of the Varsity team. Grandy has also been an Assistant Coach at M.M. Robinson High School in Burlington since 2006, most recently winning the GHAC, Halton Championships and OFFSAA Golden Horseshoe Finalist in 2012. He was named the Defensive Coordinator of the U19 Team Ontario Selects which played Team USA in Austin, Texas in February 2013. For the past two years Grandy has helped with the Golden Horseshoe Current and Rising Star teams, acting as Defensive Coordinator and Linebacker coach respectively. Grandy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from McMaster University (2007) and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor (2011) where he was a Graduate Assistant/Linebacker during the 2010 season.

John Casasanta

Special Forces Personnel Coach

John Casasanta is entering his ninth season as the Niagara Recruiting Officer with the Gryphons. He also works with the Special Forces Team on game days focusing on player personnel assignments and substitutions. As a Gryphon, Casasanta earned his Bachelor of Arts History Honours degree from the University of Guelph and was a five-year Letterman defensive back with the Gryphons football team. He lives in the Niagara Region with his wife Lisa, son Carson and daughter McKenna and is currently entering his eighth season as head coach of the Jr Football team at Denis Morris Catholic High School where he teaches English.

Scout Team Coordinator and Tight End Coach

Alex Derma returns for his sixth season to work with the Gryphon Show team members in preparation for each weekly opponent. Derma played four years at John F. Ross as a wide receiver before joining the University of Waterloo football team. He was also selected to play for Team Ontario U21 and represent them as captain for a summer tour in Europe. Derma currently coaches high school football and has gained International coaching experience as an Offensive Coordinator for both the Team Ontario U15 and U17 Selects playing against the United States. He brings thirteen years of coaching experience and a ton of energy which he uses to keep the Gryphons motivated. Derma teaches Wood working and Construction at Elmira District High School.

Marcello Campanaro

Quarterbacks Coach

Marcello Campanaro is joining the Gryphons for his first year as Quarterbacks Coach. A 1984 McMaster graduate, Campanaro went on to complete his Bachelor of Education degree at Queen’s University in 1986. He served as the Quarterback Coach and the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at McMaster University from 1996-2003. He moved into the positions of Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the McMaster Mauraders from 2004-2006. He lives with his wife Cynthia and has three children; Roman, Naia and Mylana. Currently, the Head of Physical Education at M.M Robinson Highschool in Burlington, Ont., Campanaro has spent 24 of his last 26 years teaching as coach of the M. M. Robinson Rams. He led the Rams to national number one rankings in 1992 and 1993. His team appeared in several Halton championship games and captured four Halton Division I Football titles (1993, 1994, 2001, 2012), along with three Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference crowns. His coaching career has also included the role of Offensive Coordinator Burlington Varsity Stampeders. He is a three-time nominee for the CFL/NFL High School Coach of the Year, a 2012 Recipient McMaster High School Football Coaching Achievement Award and a recipient OFSSA Pete Beach Award 2012.

Alex Derma

Jordan Foley Strength and Conditioning Coach Jordan Foley is excited to join the Guelph Gryphons for his first year as the team’s Strength and Conditioning Coach. He holds the same title for the Canada Basketball Senior Women’s National Team. He is also an instructor at Sheridan College in Brampton, Ont. in the Human Performance Training Program. Previously, he was the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Head Athletic Performance Coach at Upper Canada College in Toronto. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and NCCP Track and Field Coach. Athletically, he played numerous sports growing up that lead to being a member of the Rugby Team at Queen’s University from 2003-2006. After finishing his rugby career, he turned to competitive strongman and has finished third Nationally in the lightweight division and fourth in the Ontario open division. In the Strength and Conditioning industry, Foley is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He serves as a member on the Advisory Board at Sheridan College’s Human Performance department. Foley has worked with numerous clients ranging from fitness enthusiasts to competitive athletes. Academically, Foley received his Bachelor of Physical and Health Education and his Bachelor of Arts in Health Studies from Queen’s University and his Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University. While at Queen’s University, he served as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Men’s Rugby Team.

Teresa Hussey-Budwal Therapist

Assistant Athletic

Teresa joins the Guelph Gryphons for her first year as the Assistant Athletic Therapist. Teresa spent the last 10 years as the Head Athletic Therapist with the Laurier football team and was part of the team that won the 2005 Vanier Cup. Teresa has worked within the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) for over 10 years with Brampton, Guelph and most recently the Cambridge Lions. In 2010, Teresa opened her own clinic, Sideline Therapy. She also works as an Athletic Therapist for two national teams, including Wrestling Canada and Wheelchair Basketball Canada. Teresa graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Honours Kinesiology Degree and a diploma of Sports Injury Management from Sheridan College.

Devin Kavanagh

Defensive Backs Coach

Devin joins the Gryphons for his first year as Defensive Backs Coach. Originally from Montreal, Quebec, Devin attended Champlain College in Quebec where he earned a Liberal Arts degree. He continued his post-secondary education at the University of British Columbia, graduating with a degree in Kinesiology and a minor in psychology. While at the University of British Columbia Devin played football, and was a 4-year Defensive Captain and a 2011 Hardy Cup finalist. He was also honoured three times with the Frank Knupp award for being the most inspirational player. In 2007 he obtained the title of CJFL Defensive Player of the Year. His coaching career began in 2011 as a Linebacker Coach for the UBC Thunderbirds. In the 20122013 season, he was the Defensive Coordinator of the CJFL St. Leonard Cougars. Devin also holds qualifications as an RCMP Victim Services worker and is a qualified Canadian Forces Officer.
