ITQ Level 1 Award

ITQ Level 2 Award

ITQ Level 1 is a qualification offered by the awarding organisation OCR (Oxford, Cambridge & RSA). This qualification is suitable for a beginner.

The course is suitable for people who have a good understanding of the relevant software eg people who have successfully completed ITQ Level 1 or have a secure knowledge of the specific software application. European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) The European Computer Driving Licence (“ECDL”), accredited by BCS-The Chartered Institute for IT, is a leading, well recognised IT qualification.

ECDL is for anyone who wishes to become fully competent in the use of computer applications. Each module provides a practical programme of up-to-date skills and knowledge areas which are validated by a 45 minute online test. This is a Level 1-2 course and not recommended for absolute beginners. • The full ECDL qualification consists of 7 modules as shown in the table below, which may be taken in any order. This qualification can be a considerable commitment, with many students taking a whole academic year or more to complete the programme. • The ECDL Flexible Award offers a shortened version of the full qualification, with achievement of the Award on completion of 3 units from the choice of Module 3 (Word Processing), Module 4 (Spreadsheets), Module 5 (Databases), Module 6 (Presentations) from the table below. We are able to provide a variety of study routes for these qualifications: • Classroom study - fully supported study in the Centre. All materials sourced and provided by the Centre, work marked and tutor feedback given. • Online study - all study undertaken outside of the Centre, eg at home or at work. Materials provided online after purchasing registration. This works along similar lines to the Microsoft Office Specialist courses, details of which are provided on page 10. • Testing only - completely independent study and sourcing of materials. Aimed at the advanced user who has a good working knowledge of the application and wishes to extend their skill level. This unit develops the learner’s ability to create word-processed documents and templates: entering text, editing and formatting work, and using tables and pictures for a professional finish. The learner will also use tools such as headers and footers, alignment and indentation, cut/copy/paste and Mail Merge. Helps learners to develop a working knowledge of spreadsheets, from entering data and formatting spreadsheets, formula building, use of functions, through to creating charts. Enables learners to understand some of the main concepts of databases and demonstrate the ability to use a database application. This includes creating and modifying tables, queries, forms, reports, creating relationships and retrieving and manipulating information from a database by use of query and sort tools. Introduces the learner to this important means of business communication. Upon completion, learners will be capable of producing high quality presentations using a variety of tools, including animations, transitions, graphs, charts and drawn objects. This unit helps the learner understand how to use the internet and email in a safe and secure way. It explains key terms and builds knowledge of computer security.

OCR BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS aimed at the secretarial worker These certificated qualifications are available as single courses or as part of a package (see facing page). The packaged qualifications can be tailored to suit individual requirements, provided the required number of credits is met to achieve the qualification. Tutors will advise on request. For single courses, sessions are purchased in blocks of 10 sessions for £100.00. Each exam costs £25.00 and sittings take place once per term. Please note that students may follow the course content without an examination if they so wish. Students who would like to learn to touch type may do so as part of this course. If you can touch type, you will be a much more efficient user of your computer, you will be accurate and will not need to look at the keyboard. These are essential skills for professional secretaries and administrators. These qualifications also develop the user’s proofreading skills; an important requirement for the production of any professional documentation. UNIT NAME

Microsoft Office Specialist Microsoft Office Specialist suite of qualifications will be available only on request. Interested students should email us on flexiblelearning@gcfe.net for information. These options will appeal to students who: • have some prior knowledge of the application (this style of learning is not ideal for the complete beginner) • are self-motivated and can work the materials independently, without tutor support • are unable to attend classes in normal class/term-time • want the flexibility to study outside the classroom, eg at home, at work The enrolment package in the Flexible Learning Centre includes: • registration with the examining body • user logon, giving full access to a range of study and sample test materials to work online anytime, anywhere • 10 additional support sessions in the Flexible Learning Centre with alternative supporting materials if required • exam fee Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) is the official Microsoft Office certification for desktop productivity, enabling students in secondary and post-secondary schools, as well as candidates training for or re-entering the workforce, to validate their skills and advance academically and professionally. Learners are also able to pursue the higher level Microsoft Office Specialist Expert and Microsoft Office Specialist Master certifications as part of this process. We recommend interested students view the full details of these qualifications at https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-gb/mos-certification.aspx The training is provided online, in-application, so after purchasing their registration, the student may work the materials away from the College site and return to us to sit the exam.
