Progetto Sani 2017, Bologna International design contest for the masterplan of the former Caserma Sani in Bologna (with SM.SR. srl, Ing. Arch. Henry Zilio, Ing. Cesare Zilio, Ing. Nicola Fuzzi, Ing. Luca Marenzi e Ing. Marika Marianelli) The aim of the competition is to identify a design proposal defining the urban design of the real estate sector, the flexibility of the functional mix, the design of the public space and the criteria for intervention in the recovery of the protected buildings. The two storehouses, which are converted into a covered market for sales and restaurants, are identified as functional centrality, as well as geometric. The silos building, since its peculiar nature, is consolidated and integrated with a volumetric addition to reinforce its symbolism within the site. A widening around it and a tank that recalls the pre-existing mill define, in the centre-south part, a largely intact space that recalls the original layout of the place. Here cross the two main orthogonal axes of the area: the east-west one is crucial for linking the residential district of Bolognina to the directional and fairgrounds one of via Stalingrado, in order to create a polarity capable of attracting different types of users. The north-south route connects the former Casaralta factory to the Porta Europa square. It is decided to place much of the new buildings in the eastern part of the project area, formerly affected by construction, only keeping protected buildings, and at the same time preserving the alignments and configuration of the plant. 5

Urban redevelopment and project of a metropolitan station for the area Orlat Lwowskich 2015, Wroclaw, Poland Course of Architecture and Architectural Composition 3, University of Bologna The disposal of the Swiebodki Station leads to rethinking a large urban area in the eastern part of the city of Wroclaw. The new masterplan includes a modification of viability in order to decrease the traffic, also proposing an underground road. This allows the creation of a public square around which new functions are organized: a shopping mall placed in the old station, a new monorail metropolitan station, a park and an multifunctional district with services and housing. Later, the project of the monorail station is further deepened. The building, connected with the mall with suspended footbridge, is made of steel trellises supporting the multi-impluvium roof which allows a smooth flow of snow, very consistent at this latitude, while maintaining a linear and clean profile towards the square. The skin aims to the maximum transparency with a glass jambs facade. On the south side there is a large stairway with ramp to the public garden. On the other hand the north prospect design look at a formal dialogue with the pre-existing building. 11

Ideas competition for the reconstruction of the bivouac F.lli Fanton 2014, Belluno Design contest in the mountain range of Marmarole, Belluno (with C.Zilio) The design of the bivouac derives its shape from the study of the site topography, conduced on a 3d model reporting the ground conformation. The structure decline on the mountain natural slope, referring to the rocky peaks which characterize the surrounding landscape. The internal configuration is based on an hexagonal modules , dimensioned in order to comfortably host one person, even sitting, ensuring privacy and constant visual contact with the environment. This happens through the circular windows that report on the external facade the disposition of the modules. This polygonal shape derived from the man and the mountain is assumed as paradigm for the design of all the features as asked in the contest call. The skin of the bivouac, made by metallic laminate, absorbs the colour of the skies and the rocks, changing with the hours and the seasons. 19

Restoration and architectural renovation of Galleria del Leone in Bologna 2013, Bologna Course of architectural restoration, University of Bologna (con A.Masini, P.Obrietan, M.C.Regazzi, N.Salvi) The case of study is a palace of the early ‘900, in the historic centre of Bologna, which houses a poorly exploited commercial gallery. The first part of the work is to know the building in its historical, artistic, technological and physical characteristic, by archive research, direct survey and typological comparison. The project will first identify the causes of deterioration and the development of interventions aimed at preserving the integrity of the building. The second objective is the rehabilitation of the gallery through the renovation of vacant shops facing inside, the removal of architectural barriers and a new project of lighting.

Seismic and energy improvement and redesigning 2013, Modena Course of building recovery and preservation University of Bologna. (con S.Babbini, L.Bernardi, V.Giannotti, P.Obrietan, , M.I.Sivo) The “Palazzo della Ragione dates back to the Middle Ages and overlooks the main square of Mirandola. The project wants to change the intended use and aims to implement the security level of the structure. The first two levels are destined to commercial space while the upper floors to homes. Improvement of the seismic behaviour is based on the knowledge of the principles and rules of the historic building and wants to be compatible with it. The construction details are made at the executive level with attention to assembly operations. The floors are replaced: the first one is made of steel, the remaining two and the cover are made of wood, while the openings are reinforced with steel hoops.

Digital modeling of the front of the theatre Arena del Sole 2014, Bologna Corso di modellazione virtuale per l’architettura. University of Bologna (con C.Ricciardi, C.Zilio) The front of the theatre “Arena del Sole”, dating from 1888, shows a doubleheight portico consisting in three vaults supported by paired columns and has important decorations and statues of classical inspiration. The work is part of a larger project of surveying the porticoes of Bologna for the nomination of the city as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The goal is to create a three-dimensional architectural model for the information systems on the web.

Urban redevelopment and architectural design of Bertalia district in Bologna. 2011, Bologna Course of Architecture and Architectural Composition 2, University of Bologna. (with L.Marenzi, C.Mirri, C.Ricciardi, S.Zanotto, C.Zilio) The project aims to enhance an area at the outskirts of Bologna, dating back to the 70’s, through densification and functional diversification of the urban fabric. The new constructions, different in volumes and types, break the rigid system of the old quarter and at the same time, integrating with the existing buildings, create a new urban centre organized around the park. In a second moment the work took care of the architectural design of two buildings with retail space on the ground floor and residences or offices on the upper floors. The aggregation of a basic module adjusts the size of the accommodation and also the design of the facade. The result is the creation of flexible apartments for various users.
