Guildhall Session Orchestra: New Music for Illuminated River Join Guildhall Session Orchestra on a journey of new music inspired by London, Cannon St, Southwark and Millennium bridges. From sweeping orchestral scores to minimalist electronic pieces, these innovative new works by Guildhall composers have been commissioned by the Illuminated River Foundation to celebrate the first phase of lighting London’s historic bridges.

Rachmaninov The Bells Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue Duke Ellington Sacred Concerts (excerpts) Guildhall School musicians bring an eclectic programme of orchestral, choral and jazz works to Barbican Hall. The evening begins with Rachmaninov’s epic choral symphony The Bells, featuring a new English translation by Stephen Plaice and starring three outstanding Guildhall alumni in solo roles. For the second half of the concert Guildhall jazz performers take to the stage with a jazz orchestra arrangement of Gershwin’s famous Rhapsody in Blue with celebrated pianist Julian Joseph as soloist, plus selections from Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concerts – described by the composer as “the most important thing I have ever done”. British Horn Festival 2019 The British Horn Society welcomes international horn players Christopher Parkes and Richard Bissill together with fellow Guildhall horn professors Sue Dent, Roger Montgomery and David Pyatt for their 2019 Festival.

Commemorating the bicentenary of Clara Schumann, alumna Lucy Parham presents Beloved Clara – an original Composer Portrait telling the compelling and tragic story of the passionate yet volatile relationship between Robert Schumann, his pianist wife Clara Wieck and Johannes Brahms.
In this special concert the awardwinning pianist – internationally known for her Composer Portrait concert series – will perform music by all three composers, interspersed with extracts from their letters and diaries read by acclaimed actors and fellow Guildhall alumni Lesley Sharp and Simon Russell Beale. Guildhall at Tower Bridge Guildhall School once again presents a site-specific light and sound installation in the unique setting of Tower Bridge’s Bascule Chamber: a dramatic, subterranean Victorian space normally out of bounds for everyday visitors. The specially commissioned work will tell the stories of the men and women who have transformed Tower Bridge into London’s defining landmark. Video designers from Guildhall present a Christmas light installation in the beautiful grounds of Hestercombe House & Gardens, plus a speciallycommissioned video projection on the façade of Hestercome House itself. An independent charity based near Taunton, Hestercombe is famous for its unique collection of gardens spanning three centuries of garden history and design.
A selection of staged opera scenes from the Baroque and Classical periods, with music direction by Liz Marcus and stage direction by Dionysios Kyropoulos.
