Heritage Spaces for Social Reintegration - METALCO Headquarters

Year: 2021 - 2022 (10th - 11th Semester)

Tutor: Fernando Carvajal R.

From the architectural discipline and under the premise of “rehabilitating to rehabilitate”; a way of proceeding is proposed that aims to promote disadvantaged neighborhoods, rehabilitate deteriorated heritage buildings and promote the social reintegration of ex-inmates, allowing them to be the ones who, trying to rehabilitate themselves in personal and professional terms to reintegrate into society, perform in functions and trades typical of the discipline, to rehabilitate and transform these places into venues at the service of the economic, social and cultural development of the neighborhoods and neighbors where the project is carried out.

Professors: Linda Schilling C. + Leonardo Vera B.

The objective of this research is based on the theoretical exploration and the technical development of the search for opportunities and solutions to face the fundamental need to protect the existing urbanized areas of the foothills of Santiago, due to the existence of a series of threats of natural origin, product of urban expansion, capable of generating a large amount of both human and material damage.

Housing complex in the north of Chile.

Year: 2021 (8th Semester)

Professors: Alejandro Soffia V. + Veronica Arcos L.

This exploratory project located in the Atacama Desert is the result of a theoretical and formal exploration of 3D printing technology, as a response to the challenges of traditional construction processes.

The houses respond to plausible resistant forms of printing with this technology, due to the current limitations of 3D printing, which require designing forms capable of resisting both internal and external compressive and tensile stresses of the structures. In this case, the shape of the houses refers to the “Vaso Savoy” by Alvar and Aino Aalto, from which part of the curved layout emerges for the conformation of the required structural shape.

Year: 2021 (9th Semester)

Professor: Sebastian López J.

“Casa Gallinero is part of a series of projects aiming to high constructive efficiency –reached mostly through the use of systematic components– resulting in the biggest space possible at minimum costs. Designed basically using a single material, this proposal is a critical recover of traditional carpentry as a light, manual and affordable technology.” (Castillo, E. 2011).

3D visualization of plumbing systems.

Year: 2021 (9th Semester)

Teacher: Jorge Guzmán C.

Commonly hidden between walls, slabs and shafts, the networks and MEP systems of a building are fundamental elements for its proper functioning and enjoyment of its spaces. From the following visualization technique, it is possible to appreciate the complex network of plumbing systems and have a better understanding of its layout and operation.

“Velatropa Pavilion”

Year: 2018 (4th Semester)

Professors: Camilo Palma S. + Martin Holmes H.

Team: Guillermo Biondo I. + Javier Cabello A.

The workshop carried out on the ecological reserve of the university city of Buenos Aires aimed to build a transitory structure that would allow, through its existence, intensify the relationship of the gaze with the surrounding landscape of the river.

To do this, our proposed pavilion under the name of “Velatropa”, as well as an ecological village hidden in the riverside of the reserve and in which its inhabitants practiced a lifestyle “as natural as possible”; it tries to transform itself into an artifact of the landscape destined to leisure, rest and contemplation of the place. Artifact that considered the development of a constructive system, which in addition to accomplish the basic function of joining, sought to incorporate an important technical and constructive interest.

Construction and assembly at the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM).

Year: 2018 (4th Semester)

Professors: Iván Bravo A. + Gino León M. + Gabriel Cáceres B. Team: UNAB´s Building Course Students

Casa Lobo is an ephemeral architectural artifact that seeks to reinterpret a movie of the same name. The piece, designed by Iván Bravo in collaboration with Gino León and Gabriel Cáceres, was built and assembled by UNAB´s Building Course Students at the GAM Cultural Center. Academic challenge represented in the development of a system of prefabrication and production of wooden parts in series, to achieve a piece of high complexity in a short period of time.
