We shared a copy of the form used to the State Superintendent’s office. We are compiling that data and scanning in all declaration for forms received and will forward to the State Superintendent’s office and to the BCBE as soon as the new March deadline is past. It is our position that those declarations already completed are valid. What you need to know about homeschooling Submitted by THE BALDWIN COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

Q. Are parents or guardians required to to submit proof that their children ages 6-17 are in school?

If you plan to home school your child and your child is attending Baldwin County Public Schools, as per the Code of Alabama, withdraw your student and indicate to the registrar your plan to home school. In addition, complete the Home School Enrollment Form, available on this page under Forms and Documents, and fax or mail the completed form to the Department of Prevention and Support, within the first week of the new school year. The mailing address and fax number are below. If, at a later date, your child re-enters a Baldwin County school, your student will be required to take grade/subject assessments to determine grade placement.

A. Yes. The law requires parents who choose to home school their children to notify the local public school superintendent of their intention to home school. Parents or guardians must submit proof their children ages 6-17 are in school by giving their names to the local superintendent. This notification is only required at the initial decision to home school and is not required each year.

Baldwin County Public Schools Prevention and Support Services Attn: Home School 2600 North Hand Avenue Bay Minette, AL 36507 Fax: 251-937-0212

Q. I home school my children. Am I required to register with the state? A. While Act 2014-245 requires that private schools (except church schools) register annually with the Department of Education, it is the interpretation of the State Superintendent of Education that this requirement does not apply to home school students. The law requires guardians to prove their children are in school by giving their names to the local superintendent.

Q. Is a “cover school” required for home schooling in Alabama?

Non-Accredited Homeschools (Require Validation Tests):

A. It is the opinion of the State Superintendent of Education that a “cover school” is not required of parents who choose to home school their children.

Central Christian Homeschool 17395 State Highway 104, Robertsdale, AL 36567 251- 270-1399

Q. I graduated from a private/ church school in Alabama. I need my transcripts. What do I do?

Bridge Christian Academy P.O. Box 701, Fairhope, AL 36533 251-979-6227 Alabamabca@gmail.com

A. The ALSDE does not maintain individual records for any public, private or church school student. Please refer back to the school in which you graduated. If it is a closed private school, conduct research to locate a former trustee or board member to see where the records were stored. If it a closed church school, refer back to the church that sponsored the school. If the church school is closed, conduct research to identify a former member, pastor or deacon that might know the whereabouts of any stored student records.

Know the Rules.

KEEP KIDS SAFE. Make sure you know and follow these school bus safety rules for motorists. It’s not only smart; it’s the law! Yellow Flashing Lights signal that the bus is getting ready to stop and load or unload children. This means you should slow down and prepare to stop. Red Flashing Lights & Extended Stop Arms signal that the bus has stopped, and children will be entering or exiting the bus. This means you should stop your car and wait until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop sign is withdrawn and the bus resumes moving. As always, be alert and watch out for children whenever you are behind the wheel.
